I’m really looking forward to Xincheng’s currently filming drama, Qin Mi! He has been filming since October but it seems they kept a tight lid on things as we only saw paparazzi shots leaked recently - it’s a treat to see him on a horse wielding a sword since he hasn’t done any historical dramas apart from Young Blood
He must have know how to play piano in real life. Have seen him in 2 drama so far, he looks real playing piano
Aww yeah he can play the piano and he composes some of his own music too. I always like to see it when they take advantage of his skills as a musician/singer.
I guess it might be sometime in mid October since Zhang Xincheng flew to Guizhou for Qin Mi not long after his musical ended in the early October. The drama is rumoured to have a 100+ day filming cycle so maybe they will crank up before the lunar new year in Feb.
The drama has already started filming and paparazzi shots have been released showing Chen Xiao, Zhang Xincheng,…
Pretty odd to gatekeep things this way when filming has already started for quite some time ,,, but I guess we will have to wait for the official announcement before updating the cast and crew lists.
The drama has already started filming and paparazzi shots have been released showing Chen Xiao, Zhang Xincheng, Dai Luwa, Xu Hao, and Wang Jinsong on set so I have applied for an edit to the cast details. (I also saw some paparazzi shots of Liu Xuancheng in this but I don’t have a source for MDL yet as he isn’t on the douban cast list.)
pei su was so broken this episode and luo finally realized how tortured he is (literally). and just gah, their chemistry is everything but beyond that I also love how this drama is about showing more than telling us what to think - where a lot of cdramas would have used narration or added unnecessary dialogue, JITD uses its unspoken moments so so effectively - both the directors and actors deserve a kudos for this.
They are rumoured to finally be wrapping this week! Seems like Xincheng pulled a lot of long shoots for this one and the crew even worked through Chinese New Year and Qingming without a break so I hope we can see the fruits of their labour soon. I'm especially excited since this is a very different genre from what ZXC's done before (the closest is maybe Young Blood) and is probably his first role with intensive fight scenes - the behind the scenes shots I’ve seen look great.
It’s actually kind of a suspense with supernatural elements - Haiyan and Haixia are foster brothers with a deep bond. It’s not a BL (and Haiyan is supposedly hinted to have a crush on their immortal foster mom/mentor Haiqi in the book) but a lot of people ship them anyway.
As a fan of priest's books and a person who has read Silent Reading twice, I must say that I am utterly baffled…
yeah I was looking forward to this case and the interrogation scene too and was pretty disappointed as it was one of the cornerstones of the book / that case for me. I did see people who got their hands on the script say that the full interrogation by PS was not even in the final script (i.e. it was never filmed). So this missing scene is really on the scriptwriter . I guess the sad state of cdrama makers today is that they don't just have to deal with censorship from the state, they also self-censor a lot because they know how hard it will be to keep certain story elements in their work. that said, I do think crew and cast did try to make a good adaptation within the constraints of their production environment - imo, compared to a lot of cdramas, this is a drama that's really been made with a lot of care for the source novel although it might not faithfully adapt the book. On my end, I won't discount the entire series based on the absence of a few scenes but I get why people would be disappointed. I just don't think it's possible in this day and age for Modu to be successfully adapted as a whole drama without major changes, not unless they do it outside of China..
It was already trending a lot when it came out on weibo. It became one of the hottest searches but government…
Yeah, sad they banned the search tag from trending and got rid of the weibo supertalk - I wonder whose ire JITD attracted because it seems extreme to target just one drama this way.
I finally managed to catch a showing of this. To be honest, I went for Zhang Xincheng and he really wasn’t more than a cameo here (although he does the whole tragic Chinese Romeo type justice). Regardless, I still enjoyed the movie quite a bit, especially the first two thirds. It’s the first film I’ve seen by Chen Sicheng and I’m pleasantly surprised. It also gave me a lot of food for thought, will probably have to leave a longer review later.
Ahhh, I am so glad to see Detective Chinatown 1900 is getting an international release! We can see ZXC in a movie theatre at last gosh. (I am still kinda sad that All These Years didn’t get an international release back in 2023 😭.)
Ahah I can’t make any sense of the trailer, it looks like chaos! But I’m glad a release date has been set - I have been waiting for details on the character Xincheng will play.
The drama is not perfect - the script / editing kinda drags in the middle - but it’s a very pleasant and relatable watch especially if you’re not into those unrealistic love at first sight / fated to be together type of tropes (although they do try to pull this a little with the second ML and FL). I would say it’s a bit more for an adult audience compared to your usual fairytale idol drama in terms of the setting and the main couple’s slowly evolving relationship.
I am wondering if some may have jumped on a bandwagon hating on this just because it was favorably compared to a more popular drama which was airing around the same time :x.
