Does this have a love triangle? love square? Also what's up with the jumpsuit uniforms lol
For me, there is not so much love triangle thing like other dramas since the boys are fairly mature and the main leads only have eyes for each other. Jumpsuit uniforms are the style of Chinese school uniforms. Can google it. All kinds of jumpsuits.:-D
Actually there are already more than 10 reviews about this drama yet the info showing at the top are still listed as 0 reviews. Anybody knows where to report this bug?
The special episode is about the time half year after they went to the high school. The ending says To Be Continued again. I wander if there is another one.
The way this drama ends at ep23 with the ending walking scene and Jiang Chen POV narration makes me go back to rewatch from ep1. The first time when i watch ep1, i was like: Xiao Xi is so cute, Jiang Chen is so cold, a bit cliches. Now this time i rewatch with Jiang Chen POV. Suddenly I realized Jiang Chen was so aware of anybody getting close to Xiao Xi. Possessive and jealous Jiang Chen from ep1. LOL. As the episodes goes, it happens more often and more obvious. Hahahahahahah, Jiang Chen, you are really King of Jealousy! (*^o^*)
Can anybody tell me who is Zhe Yan? How is he related to Fox kingdom.
Zhe Yan is the first phoenix in this drama world. He is pet/foster son of the Father Lord, thus he is foster brother of Mo Yuan.
Zhe Yan, Mo Yuan and Dong Hua are the three oldest gods in this world. In the novel, in the old days they three used to go to school together and later fought the war following the Father Lord against demons. After the Father Lord died, Mo Yuan inherited the Kun Lun Xu and became the god of war. Dong Hua became the Lord of Heaven and Earth, then he got bored, passed the title to the father of the current Heavenly Lord.
Zhe Yan announced his retirement right after the war and became a hermit in the ten miles peach orchard. He used to like the mother of Bai Qian but she liked the fox king and refused him. After a fight with the fox king, Zhe Yan became a dear friend of the whole fox king's family and treated the kids like his own kids.
Actually there are deeper background stories. In the deleted scenes also in the novel, it is said Zhe Yan is actually half deity, half demon. He was raised in the Kun Lun Xu by the Father Lord. He had a deadly holy weapon named Fu Xi Zither, same level of scared and deadly as Mo Yuan's weapon, the Xuan Yuan Sword. When Zhe Yan told FL that he wanted to retire and leave the Kun Lun Xu, the FL was afraid that once he left the sacred Kun Lun Xu, he could not suppress his demon side. So the FL told Zhe Yan to seal and leave his weapon the Fu Xi Zither in Kun Lun Xu before his retirement. That's why in the drama you will see Zhe Yan came back to Kun Kun Xu to visit his brother and sometimes to check his Zither.
Basically Zhe Yan is a total free spirit who has both deity and demon side and only cares who he loves.
I feel that this drama is way too overrated. To have just .1 rating lower than epic masterpiece like Nirvana in…
It is interesting to see different opinions about dramas. Sometimes the scenes people likes are exactly the one other people hates. :-D I appreciate most commenters clearly give the reasons why they like or dislike the drama. For me both NIF and EL are interesting and worth watching. Don't depends on the rating so much, it is normal it maybe not your taste while the others are crazy about it. On the not so high rated drama sites, there are also enough people complaining how under-rated the drama is. btw, Douban rating is totally different from mydramalist, a lot of romance dramas with young actors and actresses leads are never high rated. Their taste is more for serious dramas while mydramalist is with more romantic kdrama fans. Honestly speaking, not much for reference if you are more kdrama fan...
No matter like or dislike in the end please do give a chance to at least finish it before you make the judgement. If it is too long to start and you r not afraid of spoilers, try some MVs or short clips on youtube to see if it is your taste. Or some recap blogs. The blog "The Problematic of the unproblematic" is the best among them. Just look for the tag of "three lives three worlds ten miles peach blossoms". Totally hilarious recaps about EL there (btw, they made NIF recap as well). Or try the novel directly.
PS: It is not fair to compare dramas of different genres. NIF and EL although both are historical dramas, one focuses on the strategy side and one is pure romance. The audience group is also totally different. NIF is more all around with huge number of male and elderly audience while EL is mainly for young ladies. But both are top production in its genre. Please do give a chance to finish them. :-)

Elix beorn, if you still not into the story till ep 16, maybe EL is just not your taste. It is not about boring. I found the drama was interesting from the beginning and got completed hooked around ep11. Most fans mentioned ep 13 is a turning point. For a ep58 episodes 10 eps intro is still acceptable, not to mention they are actually important for future character and story development. I would suggest you either drop it or jump to ep26 and watch till ep30. If till ep 30 is still boring for you, then it is really not your cup of tea.
I also love NIF and gave a bit higer rate to it than EL because I found EL still has a few loop holes but it definitely tops in its own genre. I gave EL high score because EL really dragged me into the fantasy land. It is different experience from NIF. When i watched NIF i was more an excited audience watching nervously how my hero played his cards. It was very satisfying but I never put myself in the drama. However with EL I felt from time to time i was in the story too. Although the story is set in a mythological background, the portrait of love (lovers, family) relationship is actually quite modern. Maybe that's why so many fans feel related and soaked into the story.
I'm on episode 5 and I'm thinking of dropping it. Someone convince me otherwise.
It is a 58ep TV serie and a complicated story. Pretty much the first ten episodes are character and story intro, especially the male lead actually pops up at ep9 and the meeting between the male lead and female lead starts around ep11. Then actually face-to-face interaction starts around ep13. Well, there were quite something to tell before the real story happened. When you finish the further episodes, you might want to go back to check out the early story like me. :-) The reason of a lot of character behaviors is actually in these early episodes. Just I did not know. I have to confess I did some fast forward in these early episodes during my first round watch. During my rewatch round I did not. :-)
I am at episode 16 and I felt like dropping this drama. I've heard so many good reviews about this drama…
And later after she lost all hopes, Su Su was still calm, hide her real intention from everyone including YH and in that kind of extreme lonely and helpless situation, carefully planned her way "out" of this relationship. Have to say, she was not stupid at all! There were arguments about whether she knew the end would be death or not. I would say at that point she didn't care any more. She just wanted to get away from the palace and YH, no matter how it ended. Just so determined. Yes, Su Su is a hard-core lady!

I would say just like you said, giving a bit more time for some further episodes. Quite some people dislike Su Su, thinking she is too naive and in some way a kind of stupid. I was a bit pissed like this in the beginning too (I did think she was cute though :-) ), but after I finished the whole series, I began to like this character. She looked weak in the first impression but actually not weak at all. She was the one who made the marriage propose and she was the one who ended it. She held her bottom line and it really took great courage to draw a line in such relationship. Not a lot of people can do it. Well, husband handsome, powerful, rich, has a child to be future heir, ..just a bit family issues...in reality, quite some people might hesitate about giving up life like this but not Su Su. Actually in the SuSu/YeHua relationship, YeHua appeared always having the upper hand or dominant role but in fact the string was always pulled by Su Su.Su Su had a core of Bai Qian, the Queen.
Again another three 1 points for rating yesterday alone. While the popularity of EL gets higher, the haters get crazier... I believe a pearl is always a pearl, no matter how hard you try to hide it...
