I don't think I've ever watched anything with more infuriatingly despicable and hard-to-stomach villains (which in itself is good, but watching this level of victim-playing was actually really hard)
what makes you feel like the characters lack depth? i think they're some of the more complex people i've seen…
well, yeah, it's NOT real life, so i don't really know what that even means... also, these 'sob stories' are actually very necessary to 1) shed light on important topics, like a parent rejecting their child when it's not 'theirs', and 2) they DO make characters and people more complicated, as it explains someone's trauma and (nonsense) behavior.
a character from an orphanage can indeed be very bland and one-dimensional if not written well, or being an orphan can give them personality in the sense that we understand why they are so passionate about wanting to be a mom and how that not working out can be the biggest tragedy for them...
binged it within a day! one of the best dramas i've watched in a while. the story and characters gave me lots of whiplash with the changes of emotions and thoughts, but i actually found it a good balance not to get bored. very glad i gave this a go despite some of the discouraging opinions.
I didn't go in with high expectations so I was positively surprised. Kind of didn't see the point of changing the actress for the third time but oh well. Very happy that the story wasn't dragged out unnecessarily. Starting and ending the series with kinda the same scene hit hard honestly.
it took me three weeks, but i managed to finish it. there were so many moments where i wanted to grab sol and shake her because my GOD how stupid she is for someone her age... i get the hype because it's very cute at times, but this could've been way shorter honestly
I finally started watching this to see what the hype was about, and I really enjoyed the beginning, but by the end of ep 3 I'm really frustrated with these 'misunderstandings'... Could anyone tell me, spoiling as little as possible, if or when Sol starts acting her age lol I can't believe she's supposed to be like 34!??!?!???
park shinhye did a really good job here. i don't know why it took over 15 years for her to try something new like this, but i hope to see her in similar roles again in the future.
Episode 4... The ambush was thrilling but I feel like Ha Seungjin should have been disqualified from the show after the excessive use of force once the game was already over. An apology and pat on the back might be enough for Dex, but seeing Pi cry after that situation made me so angry, like if it'd been me, I would have probably voluntarily left the game because staying with someone who can't control their anger like that is just insane, honestly.
It's crazy how much they've upscaled in just one season! I'm only on episode 2 right now, but it's looking really impressive. I like that they've got rid of the panel, who added no value to the show. It's also nice that they're not forcing anyone to survive all alone this time around, because Nayeon's experience in the last season was just too much...
i'm sure all of this has already been said, but i was really excited to watch it because the genius is my favourite korean show, however, this one didn't really live up to my expectations. having everyone live together was a fun change, but there was way less chemistry between the members, no humour, didn't really feel like i got to know anyone, so i didn't actually root for anyone the whole show, moreso seeing how many people were just piggybacking and not really contributing themselves. i enjoyed the genius because genuinely everyone was smart enough to come up with plans or they had some personality to make up for it, and there were nice betrayal twists etc.
for season 2, i hope they cast better players, more people who aren't afraid to do their own thing, who have more of their own wits.
looks like this is a minority opinion, but i didn't like the second season much... it DRAGGED and thus i found myself bored and uninterested a lot. the deep tangents that the characters kept having, as well as the boring games (cough queen of spades cough) just weren't for me. the charm of the first season was the variety of games and using actual strategies and wits to win, which i felt lacking this time around. i appreciate them delving into the characters and their past, and the queen of hearts game was my favourite, but all things considered, i found this season lackluster...
Maybe it’s because I binged the first half and then put the drama on hold for three weeks until the finale aired so all my initial excitement about the series died down, but I found it boring after the reveal of who BM was… Everything and anything being solved with the plotline of characters being all-powerful got old real fast. But I know that was pretty much the whole point of the show lol. The ending didn’t feel satisfying either as so much was just disregarded and I would’ve actually been really interested to see how all those things really got found out and solved. The black and white montage felt too rushed. I’m left feeling disappointed…
I really liked this movie. The chemistry between the leads was great, I would've happily watched a whole series of this. But I feel like the movie could've done with an extra 10 minutes to polish up the ending a bit.
Doesn't it all depend on how it's executed? I understand how one might think unreliable narration is a cop out,…
I referenced what I’ve seen, not to say that I think those are the og tropes that follow this and now nobody else can do it. I haven’t watched any of the other ones you named.
I’ve studied literature, and obviously I wasn’t saying unreliable narration is something that’s come up in the recent decades??
I clearly used language like “I hope” and “I feel” so clearly this IS just my view and not objective lol
