Loved the first episode and the production is incredible however I found it hard to engage with the lead characters and care about anything to do with the plot. I'll be honest I didn't like the male lead much and couldn't really care for the female lead either... Couldn't finish episode 5 so I've put it on-hold and am starting Beyond Evil now. Should I give it another chance? There's a lot of praise for it here

I see people say this a lot, but most of the Kdrama i've watched don't have the known each other since children…
The ones I can think of right now are: What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, True Beauty, Lovestruck in the City, My First First Love(? not 100% sure if FL ends up w her childhood friend but there was a love triangle including him), My ID is Gangnam Beauty, It's Okay To Not Be Okay

Honestly it's not always a bad trope- in Lovestruck in the City, it was used on the side characters and I found it cute! Not so much in True Beauty, and I loathed it in What's Wrong with Secretary Kim.
It depends on how it's executed tbh- if it makes sense and adds to the romance its cute, but sometimes it feels like they added that trope in just to make it more romantic rather than improving the chemistry.

Yea, I agree that was cliche, I always have to remind myself to not judge too fast when that happens. LOL I had a guy tell me he fell in love at first sight w me, but I think he was just high. Real love is definitely not as easy or simplified as that.

During SDM and NDS's first meet, I wasn't convinced either, especially since it was built on lies (arguably, so is HJP and SDM's love letter thing). I was team HJP during those first episodes. But I think SDM and NDS's love grew as they leaned on each other and grew themselves too, which imo made up for the love at first sight trope

I think SDM wasn't someone who focused on the present but learned to do that as the story progressed and that's…
That's interesting! I thought there was a theme of the importance of family, with how HJP, NDS, SDM, WIJ and the mother all were brought closer together due to their care towards grandma- what makes you say there is that recurring theme?
Although I can see what you mean when it comes to SDM and her mothers' relationship- they glossed over how her mother completely left her alone, not even sending money to make her life easier or visiting her in summers, and how SDM had to grow up basically without either parent. They dealt with it in a 'lets focus on the present rather than your past mistakes' which is very considerate, but the mother imo should've done more to make up for everything, if I were to be harsh, she didn't even seem that sorry for what she did to SDM and grandma...

Yes! There were a lot of things to learn from this drama, it was touching.
Ikr! If that had happened I might've been team HJP, grandma and HJP really made such a mess of the whole thing unnecessarily- but you're right, there would've been a lot less to watch if it worked out that way

I just finished ep 4 and went to see some comments about it online as I was suddenly so hooked on this (dropped it after ep1 but then came back to give it another go) and PLS tell me I'm not the only one who actually likes the female lead???
I have only looked at one website, but there was an overwhelming amount of people saying they found her annoying,,
Personally I love how unconventional she is- maybe I'm missing out, but its my first time seeing a female lead like her: she doesn't try to hold in her emotions or act 'lady-like' as you would expect from a woman of her status. She also isn't perfect nor tries to be- she's unapologetically herself.
Maybe I do have a bit of a bias, as lot of kdrama fans I noticed are quick to call so many female leads annoying, which makes me want to give any female lead a chance.
I did disprove of how she wasn't impassioned for justice like her father (up until now), but at the same time, I like when characters aren't entirely good or entirely bad- it's a lot more three dimensional and reflective of the real world.
Overall, maybe I can understand why she isn't likeable to everyone, but she is certainly an interesting character I think, and I can't help but feel it's unfair to write her off as 'annoying' from the get-go...

Just finished this.
I'm actually glad for once that the 'we've known each other since we were kids' trope didn't immediately mean they were The One.
Maybe because I'm someone who (perhaps like SDM) likes to focus on the present and discard the past since I'm hardly the same person as I was 6 months ago let alone 15 years ago...
So I like that SDM honoured the past and how HJP was there for her, but didn't depend on it to make her 'choice' (there was hardly a choice, it was always NDS from the start, if only HJP and grandma didn't insist on continuing the lie, maybe she would've fallen for HJP).

I wouldn't have hated this drama if only they've at least paired Ji Pyung to In Jae. I don't care if the second…
I was at the start on HJP's side, but then switched after his behaviour not being to my taste. I was glad to see his redemption at the end, and even more happy with how SIJ and SDM were finally acting like sisters!!
SIJ deserves some love too, and HJP was right there- I honestly think they'd make a great pair, better than if he were with SDM.

Yall mfs are petty af, this drama deserves a higher score.I just know yall never had a successful date/relationship…
This omg. I am concerned at how people fail to see the difference between someone's actions vs their thoughts/feelings.
At the end of the day, the one who 'deserves' the girl in any situation, is the one who was proactive and actually worked on gaining her approval, not the one who sulks behind scenes over how he 'truly deserves' her despite doing less for her.
It's concerning how much shitty behaviour from a stereotypical male lead ppl will discard in order for their ship to sail...

Love Traingle..!!!HJP : smart, rich, well dressed, confident, jerk, fancy car , fancy appartment.NDS : smart but…
I agree! HJP was a massive d*** at the start and only redeemed himself til the very end. I really don't understand why people liked him so much, maybe because the actor is good looking/charming? From my pov, NDS and SDM were both victims to HJP and the grandmas scheming- NDS had multiple times felt guilt about lying, and was so close to genuinely telling SDM the truth because he knew it was wrong. NDS and SDM were hurt the most when the truth came out. SDM was hurt the mostest, and NDS was hurt but also had responsibility as he knew the truth, but at leat unlike HJP he didn't want to keep lying to her. HJP wanted to keep the act up till the moment SDM saw him by the bird house. And I don't know, some people seem to think HJP has a right to SDM purely bcos he wrote the letters, forgetting that 1. the grandma helped write them too 2. HJP himself was impersonating someone he was not in those letters. A fake name, fake scenarios (like the dog dying). If you hate NDS being fake to SDM, you should condemn HJP also being fake (at least at the start, just like NDS was fake at the start too). Honestly NDS and HJP are somewhat different sides of the same coin. They both had family issues they had to resolve, they both lashed out and were childish time to time (imo HJP was more childish and shouted WAY too much, it was such a turn off). And I can't believe fans ignoring/excusing HJP's treatment towards Samsan Tech. Maybe we should question why as a society we tell people they need thicker skin, rather than telling the people who are rude for no reason to learn some respect... I'm glad he somewhat learnt his lesson. There are ways to firmly tell someone the truth about their business without putting them down in the process- hell, woman do it all the time, because woman are not allowed to show anger in the workplace, it is deemed unprofessional and emotional. But it's okay when an attractive man does it, right? To this day, I get worried seeing how many people fall for the stereotypical 'asshole on the outside kind on the inside' tsundere rich male character with family issues/hard childhood that apparently excuses his childish behaviour tropes. I even saw some comments online about how NDS was the evil one not him I had to laugh...

The female lead in the show paired with the actress who plays her is a match made in heaven. Credit to the woman…
Also, I would love a season 2 to see more of KYJ, however I'm not entirely sure what it would consist of? Despite the ending, to me the story feels complete?

The female lead in the show paired with the actress who plays her is a match made in heaven. Credit to the woman who wrote the character in the first place too! Possibly one of my most favourite female characters to exist :') Badass but on a whole other level that I've never seen before, while also being very human. Learning about Kang Yeo Joo as the plot progresses was such an enjoyable experience. I couldn't help but adore her!

Overall, this drama is unforgettable to me- largely due to KYJ but everything else was really well done too.
My only criticism is that I do feel this drama lacked something compared to dramas that made me feel similar ways, such as Sky Castle and The World of the Married, otherwise I would definitely have put it up there with those masterpieces!
Perhaps its the pace, or the approach/direction the show takes in showcasing the plot? I think it's something to do with the plot, there was (from what I remember) multiple things going on, perhaps its the sequencing of these side events? Maybe the plot just needed some refining? Maybe it should've been shorter, with only the most necessary parts to make it short but sweet?

honestly really disappointed with this season. i'll probably tune into s3 just out of curiosity if they reveal OYH is not actually MSA's killer, as that is STILL unclear!! nothing else to look forward to. hope longan lee is gone for good sorry SSR but he was boring as hell (and rly useless...)

I am honesty baffled that most people don't see a problem with Logan and Shim su ryeon's relationship. Some say…
Agreed!!
Blood related or not, they have familial ties to each other, which makes it weird.
If MSA were alive, would people still defend LL and SSR's relationship?
Hopefully not. Her being dead makes no difference.
When someone related to you dies you don't suddenly stop being related- and the closest and ONLY thing MSA had to a family is LL and SSR.
Also, just because there are people who in the past/present day married their relatives (cousins etc) doesn't mean both that and this case of LL and SSR aren't weird- that is a very weak argument and similar lines of reasoning could be used to defend a plethora of morally wrong things.

Does anyone know why CHJ drove all the way to the hidden lab to retrieve the tape & sent to Choi YoungShin?
she must've wanted JBR to live, that's the only reason I can think of?

Okay but if JBR is the serial killer all along, was he faking his leg injury? after the priest was killed, and OBY went to the church, the serial killer almost killed her, but then the police turned up and he ran away so fast...
Crazy to think how only showing the viewers one perspective can make us so convinced that x character is good while y character is bad... This is what I enjoy about this show the most. It almost feels like we're a part of the story too, as we join in on uncovering the truth and trying to achieve justice in such a f**ked up fictional world.
Also, while it does look like JBR is the serial killer, and past events like him breaking into Yo Han's house to find pictures of him in his basement (which at the time looked like Yo Han the 'killer' had found a new prey, but now can be seen as Yo Han uncovering the real killer JBR) can definitely back this up, I can't wrap my head around the grandma's death? Why would JBR kill the grandma? Surely that was Yo Han, as she went into his basement while he wasn't home?
And who was the person who called in during the gameshow... JBR? Bcos thats really twisted...
I have a feeling the friend of JBR who is in a coma will wake up at the right time and help piece the story together? I would also like to see OBY contribute, it's time she turns badass after losing everything and JBR looking like he was a psychopathic manipulative killer all along...
Also the story of the journalist is so sad... I understand why she has not told her family she is still alive (I am certain she is the 'dead' daughter) but she must be suffering so much- all the things she had to see and do, having to live with the fact that she was HH's accomplice, having to see her mother lose her mind and to see her father suffering so much... If there will be any ounce of justice in this show, I hope she will get some share of it. I don't blame her for having pity on Yo Han. As well as Ko Moo Chi...
Also, who is the girl who killed the mouse in the flashback JBR has of the kid in the school trip? And if that memory is his own, then why did his aunt give him a 'fake'(?) picture of him when he was younger??? Was that on purpose, or was his childhood during the switch of children(?) also erased and created anew? To think so many qs could be answered by the HH's wife, where is she and what is she doing this entire time?
