It's funny that you mentioned the trope of lightness technique (aka "flying everywhere") because I told my spouse the logic and explanations in Under the Skin made less sense than the ubiquitous lightness technique in wuxia genre shows. At least in those, it makes sense because there's an in-universe expectation for it. UtS, at least as presented, takes place in the modern real world and realism is really just thrown out the door. If the world building implied magical realism, I would feel less frustrated.

This review is so accurate. It started off so strong/interesting but my suspension of disbelief didn't just leave the building, I think it left the planet. The "clever" stuff near the end was so painfully contrived. Saying "credibility was an afterthought" would be a generous statement at best. This is also my first modern police procedural cdrama and I'm now weary of the entire genre. I love Tan Jianci and will probably get suckered into the upcoming season 2 just to see more of him being combination Freud/Holmes/Da Vinci, which is fun even if it ultimately made no sense.

I love both leads but the reviews and comments here make it clear this was not a good script. What a shame!

An Ancient Love Song is one of my favorite (ride or die!) dramas and I had to drop this 2 eps in because the plot looks copy and paste but less well done. A shame because I like the ML's actor but I just can't do it!

Have you seen Love Behind the Melody or Decreed by Fate? Two of my favorites and he's in them both.

That's a hidden gem for sure! Like peeling the layers of an onion and it's super satisfying and everything is explained.
