I thought that brather was found dead and in such state because he colided with plane in the future, so he got interupted when traveling in time and kind of moved more when suitcase stopped at this particular point in time. Question which direction he traveled. I think back (which seems to have more logic, like you make emergency stop in car or ship but you can not do it so you slide a bit more? he could bounce back too but I like first option more) . He maybe tried to repair some mistake they did? Company name sugest ML invented time travel (documents he mentioned that need to be destroyed?). But in this case why they try to kill him? Was time travel reason for state of the world in future? or rather what ML did with this machine (like saving his brather? and thats why brother tried to go back to reurn to status quo?)
