Can anyone recommend any series with a similar genre? Or like, similarly enthralling? I’m just so obsessed and waiting for the next ep is killing me.

You are right - China has a law that dramas must have a max of 40 episodes BUT Tencent sort of used a loophole.…
Thank you so much for answering my question! I was definitely confused but glad it makes sense now. Saves me from getting excited thinking it’s 3 special episodes, when in reality it's the same thing just distributed differently 😂

Some streamers have to shove commercials into the episodes so of course the drama length will vary!
But that should only make the drama a little over 30 minutes longer, not a whole 130 minutes. No? And Netflix doesn’t have commercials... so I’m confuzzled 🧐

Can someone please clarify something for me? I haven't started watching this yet. In the description here is says 40 episodes, but on Netflix there's 43 episodes. Are the extra 3 episodes special episodes? Because I remember there's a law in China that all dramas should now be 40 episodes or less. Do correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes, we have seen it. It's not a Cheng Yi drama if there isn't blood spitting from him.
AWESOME! A signature Chengyi blood spit is what we all need 🥹

I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and say this. The directors did a pretty terrible job at directing the very few kissing scenes that they had. The author describes their kisses and moments of intimacy so beautifully and with so much depth in the novel. The directors didn’t do justice to that. I will not blame the actors, because at the end of the day, the directors decide if the scenes are NG or OK. These two actors had amazing, amazing, AMAZING chemistry. I’m just not happy about that ending kiss AT ALL.

I don't know how I will bring myself to watch anything else. I have watched the drama, beginning to end without skipping, read every single chapter in the novel, watched BTS of the drama, if there's an animated version, I’ll probably watch that too. I’m just filling myself with as much content as possible until I can persuade myself to watch something else.

Y'all I’ve started reading the novel, AND OH MY GOD I CAN PICTURE EVERY SCENE SO VERY VIVIDLY. The novel is a little bit on the naughty side. YH is so witty and feisty in this. The first arc is basically the same in Tong Luo Village. Second arc in Yong Zhou city is a little bit different, but the base story is the same. I HIGHLY suggest you read the novel if you’re having withdrawal from this. It will most certainly help, and also give you an insight into scenes that could have been.

Title Back from the Brink Spoiler
Back From The Brink is definitely setting a new trend. Especially with the timeline thing. This drama didn’t make it confusing and go “10,763 years ago Suying killed the millennium spirit dragon and now that he’s reincarnated it took him another 20,000 years to find his body parts.” Nope, didn’t have that crap here and in The Starry Love. Made it simple and stretched out the events over the course of 20 years. And Tianyao only had to wait for 15 years for Yanhui to come back. We need these more in Xianxia dramas. And we also didn’t have an annoying “fairy” chasing after Tianyao and plotting against Yanhui. We had Lingfei, yes. But at least we didn't get to see a “Biqiong” from TSL here. Honestly, I was so sick of seeing a side character needlessly obsessing over the male lead. And most importantly, all the second and minor couples had ample screen time, not too excessive like in certain dramas. Focusing on other couples draws the attention from the main couple, whom the story is about. They kept the attention fully on TianHui couple. All couples had their own storyline. Musheng and Yunxi were a tragedy, Chenyi and Xuelin were short-lived, Xifeng and Pufang deserved a better ending, Xiange and Qianshuo were in the healthiest relationship, Zhuli and Xiaoyan were so adorable, and as for A’Cha and Qiyun, they made my heart melt. If my man Bai Shaosheng needs a girlfriend, I volunteer as tribute. 😂 Oh, and let's not forget Zichen and how he stuck by Yanhui even when she was the master of dark aura. That man never lost faith. We all need friends like him. The drama shows somany of the most healthiest relationships, even if they're not perfect. Both Suying and Lingfei deserved what they got, and Dark Phantom was someone we really needed for the story to unfold how it did. He was the one pulling all the strings, but got his demise in the end.

Our main couple, Tianyao and Yanhui. Oh god, I could write an entire novel about these two. They had their fair share of ups and downs, but they were indeed made for each other. I just want to hug them both. I adore how Tianyao kept following her wherever she went, from start to end. He respected her boundaries, but kept checking on her just to make sure she’s safe.

Of course, not everything was perfect. But it’s easy to overlook the things that aren’t perfect and just move on.

I’m looking forward to future works from these two, and the rest of the team of Back From The Brink.

PS: Tianyao in white hair is chefs kiss 😩🤌

Oh no, I'm approaching the infamous episodes 17 to 21. Is it really bad? Does she hate him? Are they separated…
She doesn’t hate him, but is rather scared of him. She tries to run away multiple times with Bai Shaosheng but Tianyao keeps following them. They’re basically always around each other one way or the other. I adore stalker Tianyao haha

I’ll tell y'all one thing. This is one of the first dramas I’ve seen with minimal blood spitting. There were so many scenes where I thought, “oh shit, time for some blood spitting action,” but it didn’t happen. They made it happen when really needed, which is good. Thank god he didn’t spit Si Feng level blood haha
