Brooo its not that bad at all. I hesitated watching this because of the abundance of negative reviews, but I still decided to try it for Wang Rui Chang because I loved him in A River Runs Through It. And Im so glad I did because I actually enjoyed it. Sure, the plot isn’t as strong as other war dramas out there and some characters fell a bit flat but again, its not that bad—at least in my opinion lol.
The ML is one of the worst male leads out there, but he was actually consistent. He’s a product of nepotism. Probably won’t even survive the kind of training FL went through. He was a sheltered man-child who didn't really want the throne but he had no other choice because everyone basically pushed him to sit on it.
The FL’s actions during her first battles were unrealistic and would probably land her in military jail but hey, rationality aside, her journey was actually entertaining. Definitely one of the strongest female leads out there.
Without spoiling anything, I can say that the Ending is good. It’s one of the most refreshing endings I’ve seen so far since i started watching cdramas.
My heart feels like its going to burst after just finishing this drama, but at the same time, Im kinda lost on why Chu Yue was shown in the ending? I mean yeah, she was imagining a happy ending—but why her? She was never in the same room with the gang. I think she never even met half of them lol. The scene wouldve been more beautiful if it was Ying, all grown up and missing everyone. She literally lost everyone who ‘raised’ her.
40 episodes aired daily in less than a month. This is such a culture shock for me as someone who suffers from twice a week episodes of a kdrama lol
I started this drama as a Cang Xuan apologist, ending this drama as a Liu Miantang stan. Also, thanks to this drama for introducing me to the gorgeous Wang Churan and proving again how good of an actor Zhang Wanyi is. I love this drama to bits!!!! I hope they reunite in another drama someday.
I wonder if CXZ’s brother is the great master. The actor who plays him isn’t much of a nugu (sorry cant find a better word) so i always wondered why he got a character short screentime—either he’s a secret baddie or he’s someone who will make a great sacrifice by having a tearjerking death that will shake up the plot. And by the look of that hooded figure, could he be a secret baddie? I mean they wont just throw some random dude under that hood tight?
Also, Nanny li being so terrified to marry CXZ coz of that cloth has to be one of the funniest scenes in this series. Woman looked like she was gonna call all saints lmao.
The face peeking on CXZ’s window scared the crap out of me. I never noticed it in the preview. I was even wondering why the zoomed it in—i even thought they were just trying to make a dramatic reflection. But watching the episode, seeing it move as i stared at it closely… goosebumps man.
