Yeah, I think "A beautiful lie" had a happy ending but the drama? WORST ENDING EVER for a modern rom-com. It didn't follow the novel. So now when I read "yes, the novel has a happy ending", it doesn't mean that the drama will have one, too.

I'm starting to think that there won't be a happy ending. Or if there is, it will be rushed.

So far, the ML is slowly dying of poison. He either isn't looking for an antidote, or he knows there isn't one (the FL's mother was poisoned first and there was an antidote since the monster she had married was proposing her one as long as she stayed with him, but he could have used another poison for the ML).

The FL is going as far as threatening to stab a consort in her own palace. I'm fearing she is going to slowly lose her mind. Unless she leaves the capital in the end to live a more simple life in a less dangerous, corrupted environment, even after getting her revenge on her father, she will make new enemies, like Duke Qi. More and more enemies, that's how she is, by trying to help whoever she meets.

One day, she might meet her end from one of those enemies. Or she will loses it completly to defend herself.

Apart from that, the sister is going to meet her fate, too. Duke Qi will either kill her, or she will kill herself. She took the drastic decision to free her beloved horse, burn all her belongings, she feels responsible for her brother's death..., yeah, I think her fate is sealed and she knows it. She freed her horse for that reason. She didn't want to bring him to Duke Qi's house, knowing that he could kill her horse in a fit or rage.

I considered that since the ML had been adopted. Since it was mentioned more than once, plus the Pei Dafu's adopted son is ALWAYS mentioned, I wondered at one point if the son was right under our noses.

Because of who the target is: and the targets are chinese women and what they want. They want rom-com, or even serious romantic drama but with fairytale men.

As another poster said, it's p*** for women. In p*** for men, women are completly unrealistic, and it's the same here with p*** for women.

Same here. So when I post, I usually use FL (Female lead), ML (Male lead), SML (Second male lead), SFL, First couple, second couple, FL's father, ML's mother and so on.

They are both clever and both are scheming people. But the difference is in the FL being more of a show off and arrogant (in episode 14, her "don't go against me" with that smirk, yeah, that's annoying) while the ML is more subtle and therefore, it's less irritating.

It's not a question of male vs female. A male can be just as annoying when arrogant, here, it's the female, as simple as that.

And I'm not talking about "gentle". She is as ruthless as a man, because she needed to be. I get that. I'm talking about how she appears, that's all. Arrogant. Being too trusting her her own abilities could lead to her downfall.

I think what the poster you replied to means, is that both characters are clever and grey. I love this drama. But the FL acts as someone who knows she is intelligent and as if everyone else is below her in terms of intelligence. She knows everything and is acting very arrogantly.

I don't blame the actress. She is following the script and the director's orders. But yeah, I too find her irritating in her lack of modesty where her brain is concerned. I think that's why she is always so agressive towards the ML. She knows he is just as clever, if not more clever than her in some cases, and it gets on her nerves because of that arrogance.

Nobody likes a show off. The ML is just as clever but not annoyingly so. He is more subtle.

I think the mother discovered the secret passage between her house and Pei Fu's house and proof that her husband was using that secret passage.

With her ex-lover, she decided to frame her husband who had probably caused the death and ruin of her family so that he could marry her while she was vulnerable and unable to refuse.

Still, even if her husband isn't the famous adopted son, he sure used the secret passage to his house so at least, he is part of his faction.

People never learn, whether in Korea or here on MDL. I remember the scandal about a woman accusing her ex of having her forced to abort their child and beating her. Everybody on MDL and everywhere were trashing the actor until it was revealed a few days later that she was never pregnant and was a toxic woman hell bent on destroying the actor and having done the same to other men.

You would think that reasonable people would wait for an investigation and if said investigation leads to a trial, wait for the result of the trial.

This actress committed suicide after her career was destroyed because of a drunk driving incident where fortunately, only a dustbin was the victim. But humans beings being, well, human beings, went after her to the point that her career was over, and leading to her death.

She won't be the last to commit suicide, and the worst thing is, not only people don't learn from the past, but they have no problem watching themselves in the mirror.

I say, let professionals investigate if the accusations are real. I'm sure her family wants the truth and is doing what is necessary for that to happen.

Before throwing accusations and behaving like crazy korean fan, pause, think, wait for an investigation and a trial if there's one

No need to push another celebrity to suicide, all right?

If you want to throw mud and accusations, at least use the correct terminology: ephebophilia, not pedophilia. Pedophilia is for adults with children, ephebophilia is adults with teenagers.

How can so-called educated people not know the difference and throw the word pedophilia around when it's not the case?

And I say that as someone who is not even a fan of that actor. The only thing I have seen him is a cameo at the end of "Hotel Del Luna".

I'm just starting watching this drama but i have a question: is there a problem with the ML's sister? She said on the phone with a friend that "she was all right now" and also everytime we see her, she is in a sitting position. Is she in a wheelchair?

MDL is not that reliable either. Idol's dramas always get higher scores than non idol dramas.

What is sad is that she gets called a witch because of the accidents/deaths occuring around her so therefore she must have caused those accidents because she is a witch for people, but in fact, she is the victim of a curse, IMO.

Now, that means that someone cursed her. So who and why? Her mother died giving birth to her, what if her last thought, last wish before dying was for her daughter to find love and be loved by her soulmate? Only for that wish to turn into a deadly curse?

I get that. People don't react the same way to traumas of this kind.

But..., her passivity doesn't fit her job. Being a reporter? It's like navigating in a shark's sea. She is too quiet, reserved for that kind of job.

Also, as I said, one trauma? It happens, unfortunately. But with her, it's trauma after trauma after trauma. She is kind of a Cinderella, with the evil step-sister. Evil step-father (I assume he was the one to assault her in high school?) bad mother who takes her new husband's side.

Then she is assaulted by her boss, then by her boss's wife in front of everybody, her reputation being destroyed.

Then she is assaulted at her new apartment by a man. Then she is assaulted once again at her apartment by 3 men. Then she is sexually harassed at work AGAIN and her reputation ruined again because of gossips.

Honestly, the first trauma is horrible enough. I mean, she lost her father. Her mother is a piece of s**** who married a guy who assaulted her own daughter and she throws her out. Her step-sister is also a piece of s***. Honestly, I would have taken martial arts lessons, every day of the week after that.

That would be enough to explain a trauma. But here, it's multiple traumas. I know that it's a healing drama and that it explores some dark themes, but it's like checking boxes, it wants to do tackle too many issues:

- rape by a relative,
- bad parenting,
- loss of a parent at an early age,
- attempted rape,
- beating,
- sexual harassement TWICE at work, at two different jobs,
- sexual assaulsts at home TWICE by first a neighbor, then by 3 neigbhors,
- gossips at school and at work destroying lives
- so far no shrink despite all of this happening, at least in the 4 episodes so another issue to tackle in this drama, the lack of consideration for PTSD and other mental health issues

That's a LOT for just one drama. Maybe it follows the novel but that doesn't mean the novel didn't fall into the exact same trap I developped above. In that case, the fault lies withe novel.

Now you are telling me that Prince Charming comes from a wealthy family, who is a successful businessman, a succesful... money management or whatever he does outside of his bar/restaurant, and being a rich genius at such a young age allows him to stay at home playing games?

The way this story has been hyped for years, I expected... something else. The ML being a struggling new business owner, the FL suffering from one trauma in her life, not 10. Her tougher thanks to her job.

The drama is just starting so I'm not giving up on it. Modern romance dramas seem to be rare lately, it's all about costume dramas, palace intrigue dramas, Xuxia, Wanxia or whatever those dramas are called. But still...

Hmmm, a bit hard to give an opinion. The story is okay. The pacing is nice, not too fast, not too slow. The actors are... so far, I'm more intrigued by the potential second couple. Potential for fun stories to tell and an explosive relationship. The main couple, wait and see so far for me.

I have a question about the FL. She is cute. But she is described as the Alpha and Omega of... everything. Back in school, pretty face. Girls were gossiping about her so suspected jealousy. Guys had crushes on her.

Then something happened (sexual assault? And she left school). At her previous work, her boss was sexually harassing her. At her actual job, her boss/colleague tried to sexually harass her. Bis repetita, her other colleagues (not all of them, mind you) gossiped about her and how she was like based on rumors.

She was sexually assaulted at her apartment not once, but twice.

I mean, I'm all for exploring issues that aren't that explored in dramas. But here, it's a bit too much, for me.

And even if I understand that she is still traumatized by what happened to her multiple time, I don't like the fact that as a journalist, she doesn't want to rectify the situation and tell the truth to her colleagues.

Also, still as a journalist, she feels off. Tired. I expected more passion, more fire for a job. She is no Lois Lane.

I still have the same issue (so far, it could change in future episodes), with the ML spending too much time at home on his phone playing game. Doesn't he have a new business to take care of, to make it successful?

It's still early so those issues could be solved in future episodes. At least, I hope they will be.

But yeah, so far, I'm not that into the main couple. Plus the new guy seems to be into the FL? I'm not a fan of love triangle or one sided love story.

That was a great drama, quite original and with great acting. The stories were sad, violent, depressing, it really had everything.

There was an astronomical event in the beginning, which I think allowed her to time travel to his era. Maybe he will also time travel to her time line to save her as a child?

But how it will end... I don't know. With time travels, the censorhip tends to damage the endings of time travel dramas.
