Everyone knows Song Joong Ki from DOTS. On the other hand, this extremely underrated drama that he did in 2019 called Arthdal Chronicles deserves way more love and attention, thus I am recommending Arthdal to SJK fans who became fans from DOTS. Arthdal Chronicles comes in multiple seasons. As of March 16, 2021, only the first season is released. This is part 3 of the first season.
similarities
- The male lead in both wants to protect the female lead
- They've both got great storylines for the second lead couples
- Both couples in the 2 dramas know that they love each other dearly from the start of the drama but there are lots of hesitations in the relationship
- Both have got delicate but strong female leads
- Both are Action, Romance genres and they have a pretty good amount of comedy too
differences
- The male lead in ML is a security guy at one point but in DOTS the male lead is a soldier
- The female in DOTS is a doctor but in ML the female lead is an aspiring actor
- ML is chinese while DOTS is korean
These two dramas have quite different and unique storylines and plots but they give off the same vibe. If you've watched one you definitely need to give the other a chance.

- SImilar vibe - female doctor and strong + caring man with a job, that includes helping people (military in Descendants, voluntary rescue forces in Got a crush on you).
- a little misunderstanding and bickering in the beginning (doesn't last long)
- male chases female first (though it's pretty obvious female lead likes male lead too, especially in Descendants)
- Descendants is a korean drama with more action, whereas Got a crush on you is chinese, a little lighter and has more "every day" types of problems

Dramas have different story line though they give you feeling of rooting for main FL
1) ML always saving FL in trouble
2) FL doesn’t accept her own feelings
3) adorable chemistry between FL and ML and how they are always drawn to each other (fate)
4) strong FL and ML always backing her up on decisions
If you love romantic story and the connection between leads filled with ups and downs with life threatening situations from DOTS extraordinary you will not disappoint you.

Honestly there aren't that much background / story similarities between the dramas. DOTS is longer, has romance, is more epic, etc. It's just army-centered for both.
But they gave me a similar vibe. Something in the emotions I felt while watching those really felt the same.
When I watched D.P, I made a break in the middle just to rewatch DOTS, and I liked it, so I wanted to share it.

Doctor on the Edge and Descendants of the Sun are similar because both dramas focus on romance developing in difficult and emotionally intense environments. In both stories, the male leads are burdened by responsibility and emotional scars, while the female leads are compassionate and emotionally grounding figures who slowly help them heal.
The chemistry between Do Ji-ui and Yook Ha-ri in Doctor on the Edge feels very similar to the chemistry between Yoo Si-jin and Kang Mo-yeon in Descendants of the Sun. Both couples have a mature and emotional relationship built through shared hardships, dangerous situations, and caring for other people. Instead of relying on exaggerated romance, both dramas focus on quiet emotional moments, lingering eye contact, playful teasing, and emotional support.
Do Ji-ui is similar to Yoo Si-jin because both men hide emotional pain behind calm and capable personalities. They are devoted to their duties even when it damages their personal lives. Yook Ha-ri is similar to Kang Mo-yeon because both women are strong medical professionals who challenge the male leads emotionally while also becoming their source of comfort and warmth.
Another similarity is the setting. In Descendants of the Sun, the characters work in dangerous disaster and military zones, while in Doctor on the Edge, the characters work on an isolated island with limited medical resources. These harsh environments force the characters to rely on each other emotionally and physically, which naturally deepens the romance.
The biggest difference is the tone. Descendants of the Sun is more cinematic and action-heavy with military missions and large-scale disasters, while Doctor on the Edge is quieter, more intimate, and focused on emotional healing within a small community. Even so, both dramas create the same feeling of romance growing through sacrifice, duty, and emotional vulnerability.
