I don't get why, if he hated being with her so much, he didn't just break up with her before? Breaking up with someone isn't a shitty thing to do inherently, and often it's the healthier choice for a relationship that's not working. Why did he have to cheat instead? Why waste your time on a relationship you can't stand rather than ending it so you can be in your new relationship with no strings attached? It's just an awful decision for everyone involved. The only thing I can think of is because he was a coward or because it's difficult to break up with someone. But even so, isn't it worth it to get out of a relationship that makes you miserable? And why would the flight attendant want to marry someone who would cheat like that? Most of the time in dramas, the people who cheat and the people they cheat with are depicted as terrible people, but I think it would be more interesting if they weren't awful people and seeing how that would play out. I suppose then the female lead won't be laid as low for the male lead to sweep in and pick her up off the floor though...
