If you are a fan of romantic comedies you have to watch "Oh My Venus" just for the main love story alone. They are so cute together, it will make you squeal and swoon. This was on my plan to watch list forever and put off watching it just because the plot sounds cliche and silly and it is. They didn't do a great job with depicting side plot and conflicts. Many of the side characters' relationships and motives were confusing and not fully fleshed out. There was lots of filler scenes especially towards the end, but all that almost doesn't matter. What the writers and actors got right was the romantic relationship which is really the heart of it. The negatives don't detract that much from the pleasure of this drama for me because the plot contrivances don't last too long or cause too much unnecessary angst. There is a favorable balance of the good versus the bad in terms of screen time.

The 2 main leads carried this drama. I liked So Ji Sub in "Master's Son" but I LOVED!! his character in this drama. I don't think a personality like him exists in real life, but I guess that's why I am thankful for dramas. His character Kim Yeong Ho is the capable and tough protector that those close to him all depend on. But he also shows a vulnerable and sexy side and an unwavering devotion to the woman he falls for. I really liked Shin Min Ah as Joo Eun too. Her character is bright and cute and is a good match for Yeong Ho. Their relationship is reciprocal and caring and you can feel why they love each other. Together they elevate an uneven and cliche-ridden plot making this one of the more pleasurable and easy to watch shows I've seen. This caused me lots of missed sleep this week. I easily watched the whole thing in 4 days.

I really liked this drama, I think Shin Min-a is soo pretty! And portrayed the person Kang Joo-eun really well ! -

I think both the actors So Ji-sub & Shin Min-a had such good chemistry together, and I loved how they both just helped each other through everything!

But, I did think Yoo In-young in the show was sooo skinny! I don't know why but she was such a evil character but I think she was a bit too skinny!

I loved Henry Lau & Sung Hoon! They both made the show really funny. the side, wingmen always helping out in whatever way!

Oh My Venus is so precious! It was cute, humorous, and the romance was sooooooo adorable and SEXY. Some of the episodes towards the end were total cry-worthy scenes that tore my heart out. Overall, the drama had a truly light feel and good moral messages. The only thing that I didn't love about Oh My Venus (though, it was totally redeemed with it's overall quality and other characters) was the second female lead...she was insecure and vindictive for a reason a reason I personally couldn't justifying holding said grudge for so long. I, myself, struggle with my weight (have struggled all my life, actually) and I just feel that if you were that sweet in nature prior to the weight loss, the character change after loosing the weight was unrealistic and unnecessary.

Also, I really loved that the weight loss achieved by Joo Eun was realistic, reasonable, and done for health reasons, not vanity or vengeance. I think it really delivered a great message. Especially since her weight issues derived from medical issues and lifestyle habits, not out of pure laziness (which is something people may say to overweight individuals without knowing the entire situation or considering other factors).

I would recommend it to anyone who wants a light drama, with good laughs ("hey ma'am!"), sweet moral lessons, an amazing OST, and a steamy romance. AND I would absolutely watch again. I actually find myself watching clips from it often because it was so entertaining.

"Oh My Venus" is a romantic comedy about Kang Joo Eun. When she was a teenager, Joo Eun was the most popular girl in school, her beauty impressed everyone, she even was nicknamed Daegu Venus, but when she became an adult, she ended up letting her weight increase and before she knew it, it was out of control. One day she meets Young Ho on a plane trip, he saves her and their lives become intertwined from that moment on, as Joo Eun asks Young Ho for help to lose weight and get her old appearance back.

The story is light, fun and easy to watch. The romance between Young Ho and Joo Eun is very cute, it matched the pace of the story very well. I didn't expect anything too passionate because So Ji Sub is not that good at very intense romantic scenes, for the style of the drama he was perfect, since Joo Eun was the more extroverted of the couple.

Soo Jin is an unnecessary character, just like Joo Eun's ex-boyfriend, Woo Shik. The two of them don't really serve the story, especially since watching them become a couple isn't something that interests the viewer.

I liked it because the drama focused a lot on Joon Sung and Ji Woong, Young Ho's two companions, since they became friends with Joo Eun. The romance between Joon Sung and Yi Jin is very cute, it's really hard not to like her and I have to applaud her persistence in trying to make him fall in love. HAHA'

The drama's only mistake was that it didn't show Joo Eun gradually losing weight. She was chubby at the beginning, clearly wearing clothes that were bigger than she should be wearing, but then suddenly in episode 5 she had basically lost all the weight. It seemed like there was no more purpose to her weight loss process from then on, because she had already achieved her goal. That's why I think they should have extended this more and there was also no remarkable moment showing that she managed to lose weight. They decided to follow a more natural path in this part, but honestly I wanted to see a scene focused on this, it was important to the story, even if it is somewhat cliché.

I watched this basically to see a romantic light drama in between thrillers, crime, and some other deep staff. It was light indeed, funny, and extremely romantic with a dose of sad moments that will break your heart. I can now return to my line of dramas, after this overdose romance, not that I am complaining. It is good to have a breather, and the love story in "oh my venus" was really nice. So, if you are into romantic dramas, this should be on your watch list. And beyond the romantic element, a positive message to believe in yourself no matter what has been well delivered. So Ji Sub was superb, the entire cast was all-stars. I completely fall for the child actor, Kwon Soon Joon, he was adorable, I wish he would have more screen time, he is a star.

Amazin!

Story:
A plot that speaks of an important subject, in a light, positive and relaxed way. I liked the fact that they fled aspects that appear very much in k-dramas: violent/abusive attitudes. Perhaps these are common features in Korean culture, but for someone on the other side of the world, slapping faces, humiliations (in public or not), bosses / family / partners who yell, pull on the arm, push ...is not good to watch (for me). THEN, I find it very cool that this drama doesn't have in its plot the typical line of the poor girl / naive / half dumb + the arrogant / abusive chaebol, nor have a super restrictive family that does everything not to leave the girl with the heir, and try to marry him at all costs with another ... things like that. In my opinion, the drama already deserves a very high score for this.

Negative point: Possibly, due to the Korean beauty pattern and the pressures of the society, the person can not "feel" beautiful and well, or be healthy, being chubby. I felt the story put it can only be healthy by losing weight. Of course there are cases and cases, but thinking about the side of someone who lives healthy and feel beautiful, and yet has the "big" body ... this person can get angry watching this, due to how the story deals with the theme .

Acting/Cast:
Just great! The chemistry between the main couple, and the secondary ones. Overall, it was quite natural.

Music:
To me, is the is the smallest score. Not that the OST was bad, just not remarkable. Writing this review, I cannot automatically remember any of the drama's music and that's the point. Other dramas, when I think of them, some of the songs soon begin to play in my mind. With that, it was not so..

Rewatch Value:
Worth it. When I am stressed, needing to see something that enlightens my spirit, and retake this drama ... I don't disappoint.

I had been looking forward to this drama all year, and I'm glad to say I was in no way disappointed!

It had a brilliant cast, with So Ji Sub and Shin Min Ah nothing could go wrong. I love SJS and was amazed by his acting in this drama, I really think his acting has grown since the rigid acting in Master's Sun. Also there were a lot of hot moments with SJS in this drama, which I was over the moon about! (;
At first I didn't like the idea of shin min ah with SJS since I loved him with Gong Hyo Jin the most, but wow these two blew me away with their chemistry! I guess that's why they won best couple award. Also Shin Min Ah is an amazing actress as we all know.

The story was funny and kept me wanting more however there were a lot of times where I didn't know what the writer was doing, or how things tied together. E.g the random stalker. But overall the main plot was good. Strangely enough the secondary couple and plot was all over the place and felt very separate to the main plot. Usually their stories are better developed but the main cast and story dazzled in comparison.

I will definitely watch this drama again, in fact I already find myself missing it.

Oh My Venus: Good cast, but a questionable message

I didn’t enjoy seeing how the relationship is built on shaming and making fun of her weight. While the drama tries to promote a message about living a healthy lifestyle, I don’t agree with the way it delivers that message—especially when it comes at the cost of humiliating someone for being overweight.

I wouldn’t recommend this drama to anyone who struggles with their weight, as it could easily feel offensive or hurtful.

That said, I do love the actors. I really appreciated the beautiful friendship portrayed, and of course, the love story had its sweet moments.

I usually rewatch dramas I enjoy, but this one—I’ll be locking away for good.

If I have to hear that goofy "Ma'am!" one more dang time - UGH.

I'm 3 episodes in so far, and I'm loving the writing. Our ML and FL are intelligent, witty, charismatic, and have an easy chemistry that I've liked so far. I really love that the ML is empathetic and caring and not the usual cold-shoulder trope I seem to see with ML's. The ML's younger sidekick, Kim Ji Woong (Henry), needs to G O. Absolutely hate his actions and how much he jumps in and out of English for comedic effect. Not funny. Only Ok Taecyeon was good at it in Vincenzo but he's a much stronger actor and more natural with his body language. I have to skip through every time he's about to open his mouth. I guess this is where the "idol-actors are terrible actors" stereotype comes in because I've been very surprised by how strong some of the Idol actors I've watched have been (Lee Jun Ho, Seo In Guk, Park Hyung Sik, IU, Park Jin Young- special mention to Chinese Idol, Xiao Zhan..drool..etc).

This is my first series with So Ji-sub and I can see the allure. He's full of charisma and has a magnetic presence. I admittedly stayed away from his dramas at first because he's not my usual type (I'm more of a Park Seo Joon, Gong Yoo type) but he's got a rough-around-the-edges sexy aura that I can absolutely eat up. I can see some of the usual tropes (hate -> love relationship, son of a chaebol with traumatic childhood w/rough on her luck FL) but it's done in a way I'm not mad at and, as I mentioned earlier, they do subvert some of the usual tropes with how strong-willed the FL is and how caring and empathetic the ML is.

I will update as I delve further.

Episode 5 update:
Omo! The physical contact in this gives me chills! I'm not used to this much actual physical chemistry and TOUCHING in kdramas and I'm LOVING it. The scene on the mat was....especially great, heh. My eyes are bugging out just as much as theirs are, haha. Definitely a more mature drama, and I'm still a huge fan of the writing; especially between the ML and FL. Unfortunate side note- I still have to skip through every scene with Kim Ji Woong (Henry). He IS SO IRRITATING.

Overall update-
Really love this series! I'm a little annoyed by the "1 year later" trope they just HAD to include and how it was executed. Understanding the ML and his decision making regarding his accident is what kept me from being overly annoyed, but at the same time, I *wanted* to see him show his vulnerability to the FL and thought it was so unnecessary for him to seclude himself for a full year during his rehabilitation and not even reach out via phone or text to let the FL know he was OK and they were OK. The viewers are led to believe that the FL is wholeheartedly understanding of his absence though, so we're force-fed that what he did was OK, and I didn't really feel that way. He should have stayed in contact or allowed her to remain by his side throughout his healing process, IMO. It would have led them to get closer, and it would have shown the ML it's okay to not be okay and to show your true self with the people you love the most.

This is definitely one of those drama that you can re-watch over and over. I watched it the first time about 2 years ago and just re-watched it recently. I love the romance and bromance in this drama!

The main leads were amazing. Loved the chemistry between So Ji Sub and Shin Min Ah...they were so sweet and adorable! As many reviewers have mentioned that the story line was very simple but it was the development of their relationship that made it so wonderful to watch.

I only started watching k-dramas about 2 years ago and I'm embarrassed to admit that I've watched over 100 k-dramas and I would definitely put this one on my Top 20 list for romance Korean dramas.

For those of you who just started watching Korean dramas, I would highly recommend this drama unless you're not a big fan of romance stories. If you like this one, you should also watch "Crash Landing on You", "Healer", "WWW", "Fight My Way" and "Because This is my First Life".

This was my first time watching these two casts. Believe me they did an awesome job of their roles. Chemistry was such that it would make you fall in love with 'love' again. If you know what I mean. Storyline was simple and something that people can relate to todays modern world; weight loss, medical and family issues. But there were some 'otherworldly' moments. Such as jujitsu scenes!
However, something that bugged me was the 192 unread text messages within a year. Disregard of my situation, I would have died of curiosity to read those, especially if I am lying sick on bed for months. And I liked the message given at the end, 'if you are hurt, share it with your partner.'
This is one of the very few dramas that has made it to my 'rewatch list'.
