Disappointing
the story was good but not solidthe romance was great but the bromance was weak
i really enjoyed this drama till ep 11
i thought the bromance was going to take a right space but i was extremely wrong
for a group of different young men found themselves in one house this drama should be more funnier and had much more bromance than this one
i found it weird when i read many comments said the romance part should be canceled because the bromance was much better
definitely this wasn't true at all
the writer served the romance part well in the contrary of the bromance one
after ep 11 the events became weird
there were no well connection between the young hwarang
that's why i wondered when the youngest hwarang sacrificed himself for seo joon
it wasn't convencing
and the END was a real CHAOS
each side story i meant each one, the writer left it incomplete, inconclusive with a very stupid open ending except for the main leads
which was really frustrating
i used to love it a lot and had high expectations after watching till the second half
i lost my interest although the best romance scenes ever was at the second half
specially the scene at ep 15
inspite of the good actors in it, this is definitely a one watch time drama not more.

The main relationship was kind of... weird?
Initially I was really excited to watch this drama for it's cast. Both MLs are big names (Park Seo Joon and Park Hyung Sik) and this is Taehyung's debuting kdrama. We all know a good majority came for V but his character was honestly the best part but I still had to drop itThe first few episodes were pretty good. We get introduced to our ML Moo Myung and all the other Hwarangs. The story is interesting and the ost is good, but then we get to the relationship. The main reason I dropped the show as because of the main relationship. For a little background info, basically ML gets into the city with his friend who is trying to find his father. Long story short friend didn't make it so he asked ML to replace him and find his father. ML finds friend's father and meets friend's sister. Then they start having an attraction for each other. For the first few episodes, the sister thought ML was her brother. Then they semi have feelings for each other then she finds out ML is not her brother. Then they get into a love triangle. Oh also she cries alot so that's a plus I guess. The relationship seemed a lot like incest to me, while technically it's not but you still get theStep bro/Step sis vibes so I droped it.
I know I didn't get far and maybe farther in the drama the relationship wouldn't be as weird but I just couldn't go on

Brotherhood Above All
What more could you ask for when the cast is made up of some of the biggest stars of their generation? I initially came for the cast, but I stayed because of the story and the incredible chemistry between all of the characters.What I loved most about this drama was that it was not solely focused on romance. The bond between the Hwarang was the true heart of the series. They all came from different backgrounds, held different beliefs, and were even enemies at one point, yet watching them grow into a family and fight alongside one another was incredibly rewarding.
The character development was another highlight. Every member of the Hwarang had their own journey, and I appreciated seeing them mature while learning to trust and understand one another. Their camaraderie gave the drama so much emotional weight beyond the romance.
The romance was enjoyable, but for me, it was never the main attraction. It was the friendships, loyalty, and shared purpose that made this drama memorable.
If there is one thing I wished had been different, it would have been seeing PSJ's character claim his rightful throne. However, I understood why the story chose a different path, and I respected the ending for staying true to the characters and the themes it had built throughout the drama.
Overall, this is a historical drama that shines because of its cast, character dynamics, and unforgettable sense of brotherhood. It is much more than a romance, and that is exactly why I enjoyed it so much.

As Great as the First Time I Watched It
I know tastes differ and respect other's opinions, but I honestly don't get this whole "it's an idol drama" thing, which I see in a lot of other reviews, at all.It has a large cast, with some much loved and excellent other main and supporting cast actors. Out them all, only 3 are idols and 2 of those are also credited actors.
Whilst set in an actual Korean kingdom (Silla) and Hwarang being an actual organisation, the drama is not serious, nor is it based on any actual events.
There is a lot of wit (it really makes me laugh), plus plotting, camaraderie, romance, action, intrigue and tears.
The characters are made up of fun, nasty, sad and dark ones. The acting fits the script, which I think is very good, and overall concept.
I love the entire cast and it felt like they had a good time making it.
It is not deep, meaningful, historically accurate or serious; it's what it's meant to be, very entertaining.
The only thing that irritated me, was how often, as the episodes progressed, Ah-ro would cry. She was a confident, principled, feisty, warm and witty character, yet once she fell for Moo Myung, she seemed to cry at the drop of a hat!
I watched it years ago and just finished my second viewing. It made me laugh and cry all over again; as fresh and fun as the first time I viewed it. Plus, unusually for me, definitely one I know I will watch again and again.

My first foreign drama.
I watched this specifically because of BTS member V. Im part of the ARMY and i wanted to see how good of an actor he was. Let me just say i was shocked and proud. He did an amazing job of portraying Han Sung. As i watched i found myself liking the story and other actors as well. my favorite role was of Ban Ryu. His story development was amazing. I wish they coyld have filmed alittle more. getting more into the difficulty of Ryu's relationships. the relationship with both his father and step father. It starts somewhat weird with a strange main lead but I started enjoying it by EP 1 and then throughout the series.
Why you should watch:
1.CASTING: When are you ever going to get such a group of actors together ? The cast gelled so well together that i liked each one of them in their roles
2. Story : I really liked the historical silla dynasty recreation here along with the hidden king trope.Also,the Hwarang concept was also well used.
3. Production values: simply awesome all the way.The drama is beautiful to look at!
4. Music : The songs and instrumental tracks are superb and continue to be a mainstay for my playlists.
5. Action scenes : While not many,there were Great action sequences in the show
6. Second leads were strong : Really liked the dynamic here
7. Ending : I usually avoided saeguk dramas as they end sadly many times (case in point -Scarlet Heart Ryeo!).This was a show that really ended well.
I think the show suffered in ratings due to Defendant airing in the same slot.If not, it would have done as well as it did online.
Do give the show a chance.You will remember the time spent with the Hwarang Boys fondly!

I really loved this show…. that is if you're like me and just straight out start ignoring the main girl crying almost all the time. At one point even I was crying because she kept on crying. Anyways it was fun, it was serious, it had so much in here and just a lot of drama which I love to see. I really recommend this to first time historical drama watchers because it gives off something at least. And not Soo-ho liking the Queen?? Oh my gosh the scandal!! hehehehehe but it was genuine like he loved her and I was shocked, I mean him liking the kings mom was what??? Unexpected!!! Even though the series dealt with heavy subject material the humorous portions were well done and enjoyable. It gives the audience a chance to collect its breath as the tension builds.
It may not be the best show ever written but I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who asks!
