But that all changed when I came across this drama. I know this with certainty...this has the potential to be a successful crossover, Netflix get on that please! If there was ever a content you have to hammer out of China, this is it, right here.
This drama...Kdrama fans don't be intimidated by the 58 episode length, honestly by the time you watch the last episode you will think that its too short and will wonder how you're going to fill your time now?
Story: The synopsis on this does not do it justice and despite all the controversies regarding the original Author and the allegations and law suits with regards to plagiarism this does not detract from how creatively the script writer and director did an amazing job on translating this ethereal story into something amazing on screen. The world building alone was masterfully done.
This fantasy revolves around the story of Bai Qian, an Immortal Fox Goddess/Queen and her trials and tribulations in the framework of the Mortal and Immortal realm. The drama can be split in 3 arcs. First we see her as a young fox princess maturing and getting tangled up in a Holy war and her feelings for 2 different men on 2 different sides. Then her Mortal trial and getting tangled up and falling for Ye Hua and her suffering because of it. Lastly balancing it all out is her journey as a fully grown High God and falling in love with Ye Hua as an equal. So this is a story of her growth and those around her.
But this is also a story of enduring, sometimes obsessive, and faithful love from the whole cast of characters. It will fill you with hope and heartache and you definitely will not want it to end (and the fact that everyone is pretty much immortal does give one hope that there is more to this story).
Production values of this drama is quite high, although there are sometimes bad CGI you end up overlooking it as they are only set dressing for this amazing story. Costumes were amazing and well thought out and the way the it shot and edited was top notch, even the comedic bits felt organic and well timed.
Acting/Cast: Perfectly cast and acted. Massive kudos to everyone involved in this as every single character shone and shone brilliantly, even the most reviled characters. Acting was never ever an issue and whoever made the final call on casting must be praised. Yang Mi and Yu Alan (Fourth Bro) even look like Fox deities (its the long facial structure I think) Yang Mi was a marvel playing 3 different and distinct versions of the same person. She made Bai Qian a character that you can fall for. Unlike in some dramas I care not to name you can see why 3 different and distinctly marvelous men can fall for her. Her chemistry with Mark Zhao (Ye Hua) is sizzling. Off the charts. Enough that I wish they were dating IRL (but alas, both married to other people). There's enough kissing in this drama for one to be annoyed with other drama for their lack.
Speaking of Ye Hua, I'm sure i'm not the only one who fell for him too. I cannot praise Mark Zhao enough. The way he conveyed his emotions, the control he had with his body language and his passionate performance really sold Ye Hua as the ideal man. Ye Hua's growth was full of subtleties and you can't help but love him at the end. The cold Ye Hua, body language cold and controlled and imposing, the quietly suffering Ye Hua with his stoic facial expressions and expressive twitches, the caring Ye Hua with his subtle fond looks and mildly exasperated smiles and playful but strict attitude, the passionately in love Ye Hua who's eyes can melt steel and convey more with his face and eyes than a 1000 page poem could. Kudos to Mark as well for playing Mo Yuan so differently and so well I didn't recognise that he was the one playing both until I read the other reviews. I'm definitely looking forward to more of his work. I also have to mention the child actor playing A Li, definitely a stand out. He brought such flavour and playfulness to an otherwise fraught reunion and subsequently stole the show with every scene he was in.
The whole cast of characters was great, Dong Hua was definitely a favorite (with his perpetually condescending/amused/inquisitive facial expression and that amazing hair!) and even though Feng Jiu got annoying sometimes it was not due to Dilraba's acting but due to the circumstances and script. I definitely teared up at the end of their Mortal Love trial and am consoling myself by reading the Pillow Book. I also fell for the lovely pair Zhe Yan and his Zhen Zhen with their old married coupleness.
Music: Amazing OST, from the most wistful fantasy instrumentals to the Epic drums and the main romantic theme songs. I fell in love with it all and ended up humming the opening tune at work (if I knew mandarin I'd be singing it too).
Rewatch Value: YES, A THOUSAND TIME YES! I cannot recommend this enough and even though I just finished it a week ago I'm planning on rewatching this with my sister who is also a Drama fan though she's pretty exclusive on the KDrama. This raised the bar for all other dramas for me and even though I already am a fan of CDramas (I loved Boss & Me and Love O2O) this really cemented my love for them. I'm really looking forward to more from Mainland after this.
Overall: Perfect. Perfect story, perfect cast of characters and perfectly put together. Dare I say, it's flawless. What I liked was that not only was the Main Male lead swoon worthy, but that the Female lead was someone so awe inspiring as well. She was definitely not just a helpless Damsel in Distress constantly tumbling along needing to be rescued, she was strong and opinionated and for a Fox Queen pretty well rounded as a character. She was strong and smart and though naive sometimes, her empathy really shone through. Such a breath of fresh air from all the other female leads I've seen so far. Also I have to say there's something so appealing about a crying Ye Hua. As much as I like him smiling his fond sly smiles he was so heartbreakingly good when he cried. And he definitely made the fight scenes which usually look silly to me, look awe inspiring instead. Ye Hua is H.O.T. specially when he's staying put and asking Qian Qian to come to him and not doing the patented wrist grab that all Asian Drama think is the height of romance (although there is one pretty memorable scene but he was at the height of insecurity and not in his right mind).
Overall this is the highlight of my year so far (well...until the next season of Game of Thrones comes out anyway) and will always have a place in my heart. I have a feeling this is one I will watch over and over.

I have to say, poster/stills wise, the cast didn't look impressive (besides Yangmi that is) so I pretty much had no expectations. Boy was I pleasantly surprised by the end of it.
To be fair, the first few episodes was pretty bland. Definitely needed though, to set up the characters. I recall thinking, this God Moyuan is really easy on the eyes, with his facial hair and all. And that was pretty much it.
Things really picked up when Yehua came into the picture - from the snake/dragon troupe, to him for the first time in his life receiving unconditional affection from another, to him trying to woo the girl as repayment, to him falling in love etc. it was all so innocent and pure... which was all a set up for the incoming storm of angst, pain and tragedy that was coming for our two main leads. I'm not a person who backs away from angst ... I feel that the story is much more complex, worthwhile and a better investment when done right, and I feel this drama was the exact definition of that. Sure, it was painful, but at the same time, I was able to appreciate the acting scope of the actors, and in particular, Mark Chao (I could write a whole essay about how thoroughly impressed I was by him). One of the key moments in this drama, where he is forced to do something so terribly wrong to Susu, was probably the same moment when I realised that this guy isn't the stereotypical chinese male lead (sorry, but not many chinese actors cut it for me - they just do the pretty well ...). He is a true actor with huge emotional range. This was truly confirmed by the iconic bts of the same scene - where it showed him being so affected by the scene that he kept crying after "cut" was called out. From there on, it was the "Yehua show" for me. The guy has a knack for showing various emotions and I still don't know how he does it. Not to mention that as the drama goes on, he became even more and more good to look at. I seriously question myself every moment because I initially was like.. meh ... There was fire whenever he stared into Baiqian's eyes!
Mark also plays Moyuan (if you hadn't noticed haha) and he wonderfully made him so distinct that I never thought that they were the same person. Ever. Seeing some of the little moments from the bts clips makes me appreciate it even more as it seems Mark worked especially hard to maintain this - his thorough discussions with the director about the characterisation of his characters during key moments really impressed me.
Kudos to the rest of the cast as well. Yangmi did a wonderful job in my opinion. I loved her as the haughty Baiqian too. And little riceball A-li. His scenes with Yehua were the epitome of fluffiness.
The romance in this series was of another level. Watched a lot of c-dramas and was never this impressed. Ever. The chemistry was sizzling and the actors really became the characters they played. I cannot even fathom how much pressure is on the movie version of things because the actors here were spot on. A mountain would have to move 10 million miles for anyone to replace Mark as Yehua in my eyes. It's just impossible.
All in all, reincarnations, love across three lives, stellar performances; everything that I love in one drama. A definite re-watch (not that I haven't been watching) and still experiencing major withdrawals even after two weeks. Highly recommended!

The story was brilliant! The synopsis sold me when I saw the words: "Immortals, Gods, Goddesses, and Demons". I'm all for those types of fantasies with magical, mythical being who has powers. I'm a huge sucker for genres like this. Everything about this drama was stunning. From the setting/cinematography, to the actors and their costumes/clothing which was mesmerizing. But what was even more beautiful was the love story. My cruise that had set sail.
The acting was superb. Being a huge fan of Yang Mi was what got me to watch the drama in the first place. But then I saw that Dilmurat, Vengo and Vin, and that really got me more into the drama. Their characters were awesome. But that one cast member that surprised me the most was Mark. It's my first time seeing him in a drama and I must say, I was highly impressed with is acting. ? He's definitely on my list of favorite actors. ^^ To be honest, all the actors were amazing, even the supporting actors/actresses. Although I don't mind seeing Yang Mi in modern dramas, I definitely love her in these type of dramas. She definitely does shine in them. She portrayed her characters very well. I loved little A-Li~ How could I not mention little A-Li! A bundle of cuteness. All the actors just made it more memorable and awesome to watch.
The Music/OST is utterly beautiful and alluring to hear/listen to. Absolutely loved it. From when there was sweet moments(you'll hear sweet melody) to when there's an epic battle/fight scenes (you'll hear something powerful that goes along with what you're watching, putting you at the edge of your seat)
I will definitely rewatch this and I'm going to start downloading each episode some time soon. I didn't skip any episodes nor did it feel long and draggy, in fact, I wanted more episodes. Lol >w<

Overall:
There are definitely some areas that were frustrating to me, areas that could’ve been further developed (or undeveloped LOL), and things that I wished were different. The romance between the main couple was detailed and you can feel how in love they were (mainly Ye Hua). However, because of how detailed the main characters were we only got a taste of all the supporting roles and their stories. This is probably the only ‘downfall’ of the show for me. Only because I wished there were more to other supporting roles. I actually wish this drama is longer just so I can see what happens to everyone. I would not recommend this drama if you’re looking for something fast paced. This drama is something that slowly builds over the span of 58 episodes.
Story:
Like most Chinese dramas this is based off a novel. The novel is by Tangqi Gongzi and for the most part I heard that the drama is incredibly like the novel besides the relationship between Bai Feng Jiu and Donghua Dijun. Which can be found in a spin-off novel titled Pillow Book. There are a lot of copyright/plagiarism allegations on the Three Lives Three Worlds novel. I'm not going to go in depth about them, but I'm pretty sure you can easily find articles on it. To whoever credit is deserved, the plot is beautifully written and I loved most of it. There are a couple of reasons as to why I got frustrated, but they mainly dealt with character development rather than the plot itself. For example, Li Jing went from being a rebellious prince with so much personality to a mopey king focused only on past mistakes. Besides this, I actually found myself wanting more and more. Mainly Yan Zhi and Zi Lan though…I loved them so much. Someone please write a fanfic for them. I'd read it.
Acting/Cast:
I actually started this drama because of an interview I saw of Mark Chao. I know everyone was hesitant on staring this because Mark wasn’t your conventional pretty boy and was comparing him to Yang Yang (actor who’ll play Marks role in the movie), but there was something so genuine about him in his interview that I started the drama right away. Mark brilliantly portrayed the role of Ye Hua! For the most part his character was stoic, but when he showed emotions…I felt shivers. From the way he looked at Bai Qian, the way he softly smiled, the way his eyebrows furrows, or his breakdown from sadness/grief…he basically threw my emotions and heart in a frenzy. I can go on for days as to why I love Mark Chaos acting, but I’ll stop. Needless to say, I'm super excited to see his future works.
I have never seen a drama with Yang Mi before (I’ve only heard of her cause she married a HK born actor), but I loved her portray of Si Yin, Su Su, and Bai Qian. She went from being an aloof and mischievous disciple to being kind hearted and easily manipulated human and finally to being a well-respected and classy queen. There was something about her that never changed when she portrayed these different characters and that made it more convincing that they were all the same person, but different lives. Kudos to her! Though I do believe she does better with her mischievous scenes over her emotional ones.
The rest of the cast was great! I don’t want to delve into each character since there are a ton of supporting roles, but I loved them all. I think everyone did incredibly well on their portrayals whether they were to be liked or hated. I also want to make a shout out to the voice actors. I think they did incredibly well in bringing emotions out.

The soundtrack has been on repeat for days.

Story is soooo good. So unique.. Must be why original story got plagiarized into some new piece that had become more popular... Whatever they did tho... Got me so hooked and in love with this drama! It's sooo oddly unique. I am a huge fan of ancient Chinese movies and dramas! The costumes, the cute artifacts, the fighting, & the magic! At first I laughed at the summary thinking it seemed funny, that it might be another one of them lame ass CGI Chinese dramas, but OH. MAH. DAMN. Whoever set this whole drama up DID IT ALL SO RIGHT. I found out this story is from some plagiarized book written years ago... Such unique ideas put together... I got HOOKED and fell in love and then everything made sense. I finished it in like 4-5 days because I became so ADDICTED. Days after I had finished, it felt like I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO LIVE ANYMORE. I had never reminisced so much about a Chinese drama before...
I was never a fan of Yang Mi, but ugh man she was so perfect for the role; this drama shows how truly talented Yang Mi really is! I didn't think Mark Chao was attractive, but maaan, I fell in love with him...
REALLY LOVE THE MUSIC. I am very picky in music, but the soundtrack in this drama definitely got me... After I had finished the drama, I had yearn to hear it, I kept listening to the soundtrack (which is AMAZING BTW, my favorite song is Liang Liang) and reminisce about the drama, got me also debating if I should even REWATCH it because I miss and love it so much... I'm like whoa, wtf... This pain feels so odd... DO NOT FEAR the length of the 58 episodes, I truly wished it never ended.
Call me crazy, but this is currently ranked as my #1 OUT OF ALL THE FILMS OF MY LIFE T____T Foreal though, this movie impacted my life!
I highly recommend it and it should be shared with the world. Y'all see the ratings? Y'all see it going up the ranks? The more it is spread out to the world, many more of you will fall in love with it and it will continue going up the ranks because it had touched your heart and soul!!!! And maybe, you will become crazy like me... Like it is a part of my life now.

This has gotta be the best historical c-drama I've seen.
Why?
Because unlike majority of c-dramas, or any drama, really, Eternal Love - Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms didn't have the boring/super annoying part! Which usually lasts for more than 10 eps!
Every freaking historical/fantasy drama (especially if it's adapted from novel) has either a ruined middle or ending or even both. Case in point, Journey of Flower (totally ruined the ending), General and I (managed to ruin both middle and ending) and those are only the first ones (or rather, the most recent ones) that come to mind, there's a whole other bunch just the same!
Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms? Nope, didn't have it! I loved every single bit of it! Even the heartbreaking bits!
It:
1. Didn't have endless stupid misunderstandings.
2. Male lead YeHua knew right away when the evil bitch consort aka SuckJin was scheming and his looks said it all, like - keep lying bitch I knew it ain't truth.
Hands down YeHua is the best male lead ever, not falling for the annoying/evil consorts schemes and seeing right trough them!
3.And the female lead BaiQian is all for revenge on said SuckJin. Our high goddess ain't gonna let some puny deity make her suffer and even when she had to suffer some, she won't just let it rest or be all merciful, revenge it is! Kick her ass! Take back those eyes! No more sweet, kind fucking merciful & forgiving aka weak female leads, oh no, no one's gonna step on this girl!
All in all, loved every bit of it & it kept having you excited for what's gonna happen next. This happened and then you kept waiting to see when that happened and so on. It really had me interested trough out all 58 episodes! Not once did I stray to another drama, once Eternal Love got me it had me till the last minute.
As for acting, whoever cast them struck gold, both with main leads & supporting cast.
Especially liked: Chao Mark as Ye Hua, his every expression was so heartfelt; Dilmurat Dilraba as the little fox princess & Gao Vengo as Dong Hua.
Story was also fascinating. I'm so buying & reading the novel & gotta find those pillow books too!
Music rather awesome actually, gotta get my hands on that ost.
Re-watch value? I'm already re-watching it and saving to my computer, gotta have this on hand whenever I'll feel like re-watching it, which's gonna be often.
Overall a rare 10-10 rating from me. Whatever little faults it might have, the overall greatness of not having the annoying middle or ruined ending more than compensates for what might not be as great. In fact, it's so good that I can't even think of anything that is not good.

One of the Greatest Love Stories Ever Told
I really love this drama. Its literally the greatest love story ever told in the history of movies/dramas imo. Forget Romeo & Juliet, the Shakespearean tragedy is so paled in comparison with this one. The level of heartache (lol) that I suffered when watching this drama is like what I have never felt before -- it makes the drama highly addicting and engaging. No wonder that this drama is the most watched television series in China as per this moment despite the many flaws that it may had.Yang Mi as Bai Qian as a character is very interesting and fun. The kind of dedication that she showed and how headstrong she is in everything despite never act recklessly that can ruin her Master's sacrifices are really admirable. Plus, she got all those legendary script which is hilarious and funny as hell like when she tell her Master Mo Yuen having the face of a Boy Toy in stage plays as he is so handsome or telling Ye Hua she has no problem in having lots of children after they are married as long as Ye Hua is the one who gets pregnant lol. Her character is so savage and she didnt back off in facing evil people either makes her character as someone easily to root for. The fact that he actually propose twice to Ye Hua says everything.
Mark Chao as Ye Hua/Mo Yuen is really fantastic in my opinion. I'm actually really amazed with his acting skills. Both Ye Hua & Mo Yuen, despite having the same face, really feel like a different person since they totally have different vibes and mannerisms. His crying scenes are really well done that you can literally feel his heart is breaking everytime that he cried. He didnt care how he looks when he cried so you feel all those raw emotion even more. He didnt hold back, that is why you can feel Ye Hua's deep love to Bai Qian in another level. I have never seen someone love as deep as Ye Hua loves Bai Qian. The things he has to go through, the waiting, the sacrifices that he made for her are really selfless. The things that made Ye Hua really iconic is the fact that it one of a rare occasions when you can truly feel his deep love. Ye Hua actually wants Bai Qian desperately and sincerely and it shows in all his actions and words. His love is selfless, it didnt matter if he got her or not but as long as she is alive and happy, its all that matters to him and it is enough -- it is enough for him. That is why his love is great while at the same time sad as well. The writer made a good job writing such an excellent character and Mark played the character to perfection like he understood the very deep of Ye Hua's soul. And I love despite how much he loves her, he still never neglects his duty as a Crown Prince which in turn making his character as a whole really admirable and awesome. Or the fact that he is a great father to A-li -- who play with him, tuck him to bed, hands on towards him and give him warm childhood that he didnt have just make him even more dreamy as a character.
While I love the drama and understand the popularity behind it, the drama itself is not without faults. The CGI in particular are horrible and mostly all characters aside from the leads are merely a tools that do not have individual character's arch -- its like they are just there either to assist of hinder the leads from each other. It makes them one dimensional and uninteresting. But the biggest major complain about the drama that I have is that they shouldn't put A-Li in the equation as the writer wrote Bai Qian as someone with literally zero motherly instinct. While I super love the love story between the 2 of them, A-Li's story arch leave a bad taste in my mouth with how indifferent Bai Qian is towards him. My guess is the writer is not a mother thus she didnt know the natural instinct that all mother should have towards their children.
But despite it, the drama deserved 9.5/10 for the beautiful love story and 100% rewatch value. It is without doubt love with many trials & tribulations but stood the test of time.

The characters in this story really surprised me (or bored me) and I think the writing has something to do with it. Bai Qian and Ye Hua's relationship should have never been revived. The final battle at the end felt like a cheap shot on Ye Hua's part to atone for his transgressions on Bai Qian/Su Su. The personalities of these characters were inconsistent. Unlike the other background characters - mostly the villains - their motives and actions stayed the same throughout the drama. Is this the writer's way of explaining that never changing one's end goals is bad for them or something? Heavenly Lord wanted power, yes. However Su Jin just wanted Ye Hua to love her back. How is her love to Ye Hua's inappropriate and impossible but Ye Hua's blundering and cruel attempts to make Su Su love him back/Bai Qian to love him enough to forgive him without even apologizing okay? It's not.
My main issue with this drama is the main character's love story and the treatment it deserves like a divorce and custody settlement not them reuniting after a short amount of time, breaking all of it's previous rules that coming back from the dead is highly improbable and a long arduous task just like Mo Yuan suffered? How is it okay to suddenly flip the switch on the story's Universal Laws to contradict themselves on behalf of the main couple? A couple that should really never be together again? If things can suddenly change then Feng Jiu can write The Emperor's name with hers on the Three Life Stone to be together. She couldn't so why can Ye Hua come back from the dead and be with Bai Qian again? At best it can be said that Fairytale Logic is logical or at worst that Ye Hua emotionally manipulated Bai Qian into finally loving him back enough to forgive him in the end. And after all the things the Ghost Princess went through with her sister-in-law to revive her niece, why couldn't Zi Lan and her be together despite the fued between Kunlun Mountain and the Ghost Tribe? Why couldn't he be with her but instead separated himself and then punish himself again? I believe their love story had more progression than the main couple's ever did. Child or no child (Riceball is adorable but even Mi Gu said how Ye Hua is using the child to manipulate her into being with them as a family. It's not okay.
If the story wants to be unfair and unpredictable that come up with a better reason than a romance between two distinctly different people with conflicting personalities and philosophies to be together. There was potential.

This was at least for one year in my plan to watch list and many times I thought of dropping it before I even started but recently it caught my eye and was also recommended to me so I went for it.
First of all: I don't regret watching it, but I also need to say that there were times (and those came pretty early at episode 10) when I thought I would drop it.
The story is confusing. The viewer is thrown into a fantasy world without any explanation and we see a girl in disguise becoming a disciple in Kunlun under the master Mo Yuan. Once you get into this setting, it's already over and you're thrown into a new setting. Actually the mortal world (setting for story arc 2) was my favorite even though it didn't last long. It seemed like the only peaceful setting where the main leads Ye Hua and Su Su were together in harmony.
But too soon this arc ends as well and the drama rises again. In my opinion the genre "Melodrama" needs to be first because the story is full of it and that's what annoyed me the most. We have a lot of scheming, woman acting like furies (probably because they didn't get what they wanted, even though they were pretty spoiled by everyone) and a female lead that I personally wouldn't call strong but ruthless. Sure, we do get an explanation for her rather cold behavior towards her son but still, the barely existing care she shows for him does leave a negative feeling. I also struggle with getting in my head that even though one character was known to be a traitor it didn't have any immediate consequences, the character even rose in status and survived while keep harming others and lying to oneself. So what if everyone despised this character when it didn't have any negative effect on said character? Others who didn't commit such big crimes received heavier punishments which is absolutely not logical to me.
The acting wasn't bad. I do like the cast, just some of the characters are a pain to watch. Actually I ended up, enjoying the scenes of the secondary couples more than those of the main one. Characters like Li Jing, Dong Hua, Feng Jiu, Si Ming and Yan Zhi made this watch much more enjoyable. Maybe it's just me, but I also feel like some characters wore the same expression throughout the drama and only switched here and there to a pouty face or something else but we didn't get to see many facets, which I doubt is the actors fault (after seeing BTS stuff) but more the scripts because they were supposed to be like this.
The music on the other hand is absolutely nice and I do like it. I listen to the OST on its own which I only do with soundtracks that I really like. I just wish they would've blended them nicer as the change of background music in the drama is rather odd in some scenes. The first tune (a melodious but rather sad tune) ends and right after that a lively/cheerful tune is playing. The scene was supposed to be funny and awkward but the sudden change of mood felt too abrupt and forced, so it would've been better to either have a different tune that makes the change smoother or blend them.
The drama itself wouldn't have a rewatch value for me if it wasn't for the side couples and characters I ended up loving.
I like the male lead but the female lead sort of destroyed the relationship for me in the third arc, I liked her best as Su Su because that was when she was friendly and caring. Later she seemed mostly concerned about herself and mistreating others in the process.
Overall I'm disappointed that some storylines and characters just went into nothing. We don't really get to see what happens to them and how their story continues but I'm not really looking forward to watch a long sequel to find out. I found myself unable to like some characters and was annoyed by them. At some point the constant whining and scheming out of "revenge" or other motives was too much and I found myself not caring at all about their monologues. It made the story draggy and I think the drama could've done better with a less amount of episodes.
I do understand why people like the drama but also why the dropped ratings are so low in comparison. Without the things I liked my rating would've been similar.
I recommend to give this drama a try but not to force yourself to keep watching if you don't enjoy it and just drop it instead. I enjoyed some characters which made it worth watching, but I definitely could've lived without some so when I rewatch, I'll skip a ton of scenes.

Eternal Love is brilliant in the quality of acting but infuriating in the drawn-out angst of the plot. I watched 22 episodes consecutively, skipped forward while reading recaps, and came back to watch the ending episodes (45-58). The strength of Eternal Love is in its beautiful cinematography, music, actor expressions, and ability to go from comedy to tragedy. I'm glad that this one gives a happy ending. Beautiful fantasy drama
Ten Miles Peach Blossoms is a rare drama phenomenon of the early 21st century. Modestly produced, this fantasy romance costume drama became a sleeper hit. It is ultimately the love story between a TV drama and the Chinese viewers and international viewers across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.Story:
The love stories and the characters, and the outstanding cast touch the heart. The emotional pull of the story and creative plot transcended culture and language. When subtitles can draw tears of sorrow and joy, the actors, directors and the scriptwriter have done a very effective job.
Once upon a time, there lived a High God, Crown Prince Mo Yuan, the first born son of Heavenly Father, the Supreme Ruler of the Nine Realms. Mo Yuan was the God of War, undefeated in many battles between Light and Darkness. Light was the Celestial Realms, and Darkness was the Demon and Ghost Realms.
Acting Cast:
Mark Chao was destined to play twin gods, Ye Hua and Mo Yuan. He demonstrated his range of acting skills, and gained a very large fanbase across the oceans. Yang MI revealed her acting range with the three distinctive entities, Si Yin, Bai Qian and Su Su. Maggie Huang and Zhu Xudan were convincing as the psychotic, obsessive, delusioned antagonists, Su Jin and Xuan Nu, respectively. The young actors, Hummer Zhang (A-Li), Huang Tianqi (Fire Qilin), Zhang Youhao (Mi Gu), and Little Zhao Ge character, ultimately stole the show.
Music:
The OST is very good. The main love ballad, Liang, Liang, was overplayed in every episode, and in totality, it may have been heard 90 billion times (30+billion views * 3 times per episode). The songs and the BGM were well composed, and haunting melodies.
Rewatch Value:
On a rainy day, I might attempt to rewatch this drama, but the second time time around, I would focus on my favorite characters, Ye Hua, Mo Yuan, Bai Qian/Si Yin/Su Su and Si Ming.
Overall Score:
The calibre of acting, writing, directing, editing, music composition, set design, and costume and hair design, is reflected in this cinematic masterpiece. There were several draggy sections involving Li Jing, Feng Jiu or Dong Hua. The plot could have been tighter, and very effective with 48 episodes instead of 58 episodes.
