the story of Gao unfolds and we see how he is controlled by both his family and his own desire to live. he is already dead inside, but he lives on the in body to kill more of his soul.
Zhenzhen, who remains honorable, looses her father. Wendao wakes up and has the most real, most relatable human reaction: he is hopeless and crazy with grief. He wants to leave the monastery immediately, and refuses both food and medicine. This is relatable. True grief is beyond reason.
