Song of Phoenix Episode 5 Reactions
again, this will be revised as 70%subbed viki (I couldn't wait for 100%....)
1.Someone decides it's a good idea to replace the He Shi Bi with a fake one ( I have a feeling this will backfire).
2.The emperor personally lends the He Shi Bi to Zhang Yi who makes it clear that he trusts the king, unless he were to give him a fake jade (....which seems to imply that he can differentiate). The emperor wishes him a safe trip.
3.Elsewhere, the emperor is busying teaching the royal kids. One continues to yawn, Zhi Heng. (Most of this is unsubbed). Little Brother Lan earns his respect; the elder brother replies that his father can do as he wants and commoners are poor people and nobles are noble. (Unbeknownst to the two kids) shifu takes this personally and snaps at him. The emperor happens to be walking by and again dismisses class (do these two learn anything?). He has a private meeting with Yuan'er (most unsubbed). Yuan'er likens the state to a pool of water and the people in it water; without the people it is steam. He explains the people currently follow him but if they suffer famine or drought, would they still follow? (Essentially he reminds him to rule with the people's needs at the forefront of his thinking). The three days are up....it seems he will be an official.
4.Minister of War drags his son before the ancestors and not only makes him bow for being unfilial (he pretty much does what he wants) he tells him he will not allow the emperor to make him an official (somehow I think he is doing this to protect him). Yuan'er refuses, earning him a swift kick. He asks his father to explain. His father tells him that just because he wrote some poems he knows what to do. FLASHBACK: his father not only told him their ancestors helped forge the empire he told him he hopes he can help the Chu state when he grows up (Bwahahaahah)
5.His mother appears and scolds him. but his father allows him to speak.. His mother explains why his father is like this: he received a fortune related to his birthday , it must not have been good, (why don't they tell us?????) because of this fortune his parents won't allow him to learn martial arts or become an official to create trouble. He bows to his parents, who are happy he understands, but Yuan'er says something to anger his father. (whatever he is saying is enraging his father)
6.The emperor visits with the queen mother (these two are awfully close). She sees him as a poet, the king views him as a contemporary genius. She agrees to support this appointment but states she hopes he does not get into trouble (if this is a Cdrama, he will get into all the trouble).
7.Elsewhere, Chou Nu is repairing a fishnet for her father. They talk about her brother. She insists she is fine. They encourage her to forgive Yuan'er because he is a noble, and thus, is ignorant of their reality. He reminds her she isn't young and should find a husband but she does not want to marry yet. Her little brother rec. Yuan'er (he is wealthy, smart, good looking...in these times that's a pretty good choice)
8.There is another festival and their troupe performs. Chou Nu dances and unfortunately attracts the attention of the extremely icky Brother Liu who would go so far as to try to molest a woman in public. They all fight and try to flee (where is chivalry) she stands up to him and accuses him of daring to abduct girls in broad daylight; he reveals that his family IS the law. Angered that a woman hit him, he begins to beat the women in broady daylight. She uses her acrobatic skills to kick some ass. The girls all hide behind her. He removes her mask and is in love (this guy....is like a big oaf). He calls her a celestial fairy and promises to let them go if she goes hime with him but she b**** slaps him. He is also a pervert and seems to like her slapping him. She ultimately agrees to go with him and he releases the girls but the girls don't want to leave her. She has to make them leave (going to bed with this kind of guy would make her a saint because he is pretty gross).
9.He brings her home and shows off his possessions. He wants to do a Pretty Woman, and like Richard Gere take care of her but she insists that he must marry her properly if he wants her. He promises to marry her and gives her servants to serve her, and states in 3 days he will marry her (what makes him so gross is his behavior and attitude....so gross)
10.Yuan'er and the emperor overlook Chu and (most of this is unsubbed) He tells him that if he can assist him in taking care of the city he will be able to help him take care of the empire. We learn he is very ambitious...(Yuan'er does not think of his lady love 24/7). He suggests the king is more poetic than himself.(Yuan'er really enjoys his confidence; I have a feeling Yuan'er does not really know him)
11.Yuan'er's father expresses concern that his son will into someone's plot. Because Yuan'er is over confident and does not fear. He warns him to be wary of friendship, and that he always him, his father (I agree Yuan'er is extremely over confident, but his father loves him so much!). His mother visits his father and she reminds him of the time he made him stand in the show as punishment (it seems he tried to learn martial arts)he was beat pretty bad and was so stubborn he would not admit he was wrong (it seems he almost died because of this stubbornness). (if I were his parent, I wouldn't be reassured)
12.Chou Nu tries to escape but there are guards outside. She is tied up (she just had to be the hero...)Master Liu seems to like her enough that he genuinely wants to persuade her and feels bad that she is crying (however he is still a jerk for not wanting to let release her). Meanwhile, Yuan'er goes into the palace. His father can't see him off but he does write him a letter. (It isn't subbed entirely).
13.Quing'er and her father and brother try to save Chou Nu using the law but they are ignored. Meanwhile, she is tied up and dressed as a bride. She pretends to be sick and they leave. Master Liu is upset and he has them loosen the ropes....He promises to bring her father to the wedding. And reminds his men to watch her (he isn't that dumb). He bows to his future father and brings out a robe to wear to the wedding....but her father spits on him! He refuses to have a son like him, but Master Liu promises to marry her. Her father tries to attack him but is knocked to the ground, so is little Yi'er (I admire there bravery). They are disinvited but Liu makes a point to say the rest of her life belongs to him. (Why haven't they gone to fetch Yuan'er yet?) Father prays to his dead wife to protect their daughter. They forge weapons from gardening tools, and fortunately, Yuan'er arrives! (How did he hear about this???) he learns the woman he loves is about to marry someone else...
Comments: This show is interesting. I just don't like the character of Master Liu he is way to one dimensional. I also want to know what that fortune was!
Comments: We know that Yuan'er is stubborn to a fault and is the type of person to bite off his nose to spite his face (he almost died to prove he was right once)
