This is definitely a drama that quickly becomes binge-worthy. I finished it in 2 days because I could not get enough of the main couple, they are so cute! The story and characters are very easy to relate to because a lot of this drama is centered around experiencing love for the first time and how to go from friends to lovers.

I personally had seen Nam Joo Hyuk in Scarlet Heart and I didn't even realize he was the same actor until a few episodes in. He is absolutely phenonemal in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo for several reasons. He played Joon Hyung so well, and he became a very funny and lovable male lead that I could literally not take my eyes off of. His acting with the female lead was very natural and realistic and when he expressed any kind of emotion, he really put his all into it and he surprised me.

Lee Sung Kyung is one of those actresses that I had seen previously in another drama, but she was not a main character so I didn't pay much attention to her. In this however, she shines brilliantly as the main protagonist and was a joy to watch her character develop and grow during her college experience.

Overall, I would highly recommend this light and romantic drama because it's full of great music and comedy that I haven't seen in a while. It also does not drag at all, and it kept me interested from beginning to end.

A while back, I watched Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. I didn't exactly have a high bar set for it when I started it, but it was a thoroughly delightful series. It was funny and touching. The leads had great chemistry. It was a the kind of school based love story drama that seem to be a common theme. And it was entirely engaging. Lee Sung Kyung as the lead, Kim Bok Joo, was wonderful and poignant and funny in the role. I loved that her character was brash and loud and uniquely herself. And Nam Joo Hyuk as rising star swimmer Jung Joon Hyung was everything I wanted him to be. And he loved her thoroughly as she is and didn't seek to change her. Plus his sub story was heart wrenching. I highly recommend this show.

Rewatching it again in 2024 that good

I have rewatched this drama multiple times. It just that good. The lead couple is beautiful together. This drama makes you laugh your guts out. It’s sweet and romantic with some emotional moments but not to heavy. I love the way their relationship develops even their childhood history. He falls first and deeply then she figures out her feelings and fall just as hard.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo was the drama I watched whenever everything else got too heavy and I needed something to lighten my mood and make me smile. It was probably the cutest drama I have ever seen. The cast couldn't have been better chosen, perhabs it was because the female and male lead already knew each other but the chemistry was ON POINT. They were cute and supportive and teasing and caring but at the same time fresh and at some points awkward with each other. But this not only made me laugh and smile but also cry at times. It had its deep and sad moments which helped the characters to build an even closer relationship to each other. I would recommend this drama to anyone, really.

I think this drama deserves a lot more than it was given. Although there was a lack of variety in location, character development was very prominent and the each character had their own personality, unlike some other dramas with static characteristics. The cinematography was very good and cuts were made very well and I listen to the OSTs on a daily basis. After I found out that in some scenes, the actors acted off script, I was compelled to love this drama even more. Therefore, this is one of my favorite dramas of all time and I would re-watch it in a heartbeat.

This is a sweet engaging coming of age story. The friendship and love story are touching. I have to admit it took me awhile to get into it and maybe didn't fall in love with it as much as many other reviewers did. After the romance got going I became more involved in the story. Some of the episodes were really touching and made me cry, but it never gets too heavy or melodramatic. And watching the main couple get together is really heartwarming. It is an easy drama to watch and enjoy. Cute!

I'm not usually the kind that goes for dramas about sports but this one I completely fell for. The consistency of each character throughout the series whilst watching them grow in their own way, and the adorable chemistry between the main pairing completes this drama as a perfect 10 in my books! A coming of age drama that creates a fluffy feeling in your heart, bringing you back to your own youthful days (or how you wish your youthful days were)! Highly recommend this to anyone looking for something light and uplifting to watch.

I don't have much expectations for this drama. At first, I just wanted to watch this mainly because of Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk, whom I adored after watching Cheese in the Trap and Scarlet Heart Ryeo. I'm interested on how their pairing will work, and how will Sung Kyung carry the role of a weightlifter.

Well, everything worked just fine.

Story: It is a lighthearted drama about love, friendship, youth and a little bit of sports set in a university. I love that the female lead is not your usual damsel in distress character. She's strong, positive, funny, and stands for herself and her loved ones. I also love the friendship between her and her two best friends. The side romances and family stories added a little spice and sweetness to the drama. And of course, the leads' romance is our #relationshipgoals.

There are some dull moment yes, but it's so little you end up not noticing them.

Acting/Cast: This is my second favorite performance of Nam Joo Hyuk (next to his role as Baek Ah in Scarlet Heart Ryeo), who played as a free spirited swimmer Joon Jun Hyung. He is perfect for the part. Damn, where can we find this kind of man in real life? Tell me. Meanwhile, while I commend Lee Sung Kyung for giving most effort to play the role of a weightlifter, she seems to be lacking on "being" the weightlifter. But her awkward facial gestures and walk kind of grew on me.

I'm actually excited for Sun-Ok and Tae-Kwon's romance. But this has only got 16 episodes. (Poor Nan-Hee ???)

Overall:

I recommend it to those people who wanted a break from stressful melodramas or historical dramas. Also, for those people who are fans of youthful dramas.

COMFORT KDRAMA!!

Oh goddd where do i begin with this one?
I finished this kdrama a long time ago, maybe in 2020 and i’m rewatching it with a friend of mine right now. It’s one of the most comforting, feel good, a slice of life kdramas. I really recommend it! Of course it’s not going to be everyones cup of tea but this was such a silly and cute show, every character was likeable (except for the ex until the end) and well built and had good chemistry with each other. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend for anyone who enjoys silly kdramas like this to watch it!!

Aaaahhh... Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo... Where do I start?

To be perfectly honest, this drama's poster and title didn't appeal to me AT ALL. I mean, Weightlifting? I'm not into sports and I didn't think I'd enjoy a drama about weightlifting. But boy was I wrong. I was so wrong.

Thanks to a friend who kept on nagging me to watch this, I got to experience a drama that managed to pull on EVERY SINGLE ONE of my heartstrings and filled EVERY cell in my body with so much love, joy and positivity that is so overwhelming and still makes me want cry whenever I watch video clips of the drama--- days after finishing it.

This drama is incredibly beautiful in every sense of the word. It's too beautiful for words even.

And if you're reading this review because you need someone to convince you that it is worth your time, I suggest that you stop hesitating and just jump right in. Don't overthink. Just hit that play button and see for yourself why everyone is raving about it. Who knows? WFKBJ might just surprise you, grow on you and maybe even blow your mind.

Watch this drama with an open heart and an open mind. Don't expect anything. Just watch it and enjoy the ride. This is what happened to me and thank God I did it because WFKBJ inspired me so much that it changed the way I see the world and the way I live my life.

So go ahead and give it a shot. I have a feeling you'll LOVE it -- or perhaps even fall MADLY IN LOVE with it. ;)

P.S.
This is my first review. I don't write reviews because I'm lazy but I couldn't resist the urge to do so because this drama is too beautiful not to share. I hope this review would help convince you to watch and experience this masterpiece. :)

A love relationship thats refreshingly healthy, sweet and without the usual kdrama tropes. I know quite a few ppl has express they didnt watch due to reservation on both male female leads. I urge you to give this a chance. Its so long since ive met a drama that give me all the warm fuzzies and remind me the best in a supportive relationship.

Male: Handsome, Proactive, Supportive, A tease, Tall, Sweet, A listener, Values family, A swimmer
Female: Strong, Tall, Pretty, Charming, Values family and friends, Vibrant attitude, straight shooter, Weightlifter

Story: Friends to couple, first love, college life, sports life, family and strong friendships

Bokjoo and Joon hyung seriously the sweetest couple in K history. It is very refreshing when a guy is proactive, means what he says and acts on it when he realises his feelings. What worked to make this drama awesome is the amazingly natural chemistry of our leads who are comfortable and playful on and off screen. Couple that with the writer whose previous works includes Oh my ghost, you know its a winner. The charm of this drama is that its not heavy but its not your usual fluff. It has winsome characters, and male female leads you come to love and a sweet journey watching this two support each other through the challenges they faced in school or at home and fall in love. The drama doesnt dwell too long on one issue and never draggy. It highlights the wonderful time in college with the first blooms of love and the amazing girlfriends we have.

Ive never more convinced of two people more suited for each other, as jeon joon hyung and kim bok joo complements each other. Long after this show ends i will always remember our bokjoo and joonhyung.

Watch and you will know what i mean. This underdog show captured my heart in surprise. It has so much heart warming scenes not just the romance but also father-daughter and mother-son relationship. Really a gem

this drama is so nice. It made me happy and have that warm and cozy feeling. It felt natural and not forced + I found myself smiling so much while watching. I loved how they portrayed things like weight problems and showed how people can be healthy no matter their weight and that it can be dangerous to go after a super skinny body type. I truly recommend this, it was one where I actually liked all the characters and felt fulfilled and happy at the end. No regrets about watching it all in 2 days !
