My poor Hye Young! Ahhh I support her til the ends of the earth, and even though I thought Jung Hwan was such a good partner to her when they were sharing the flat, I 100% blame him for the current situation. I know he's in a tough place himself, but at the end of the day, Hye Young is the outsider in the family. It's much harder for her to stand up for herself and fight back without causing problems than it is for him. It's his responsibility to look after her and support her -- not in a "that's what men should do" sort of way, but rather because she's all alone in an unfamiliar household. If they had moved into her family's house, I would have said it's her responsibility to be that support for him. He knows what his mother's like, but he hasn't been able to stomach standing up to her and protecting his partner, and that's what's upsetting. My heart broke for both of them during that conversation in the cafe, but especially for Hye Young.
