watched this right after boys over flowers and even though i can say that it is basically the same story, there was enough differences for me to love them both. i though each sets of characters had the own uniqueness, even though it is essentially the same story. another cute, average girl fighting for what she believes in, going through hard times and never giving up. you cant help but root for her. and the obnoxious lead guy, even through he can have pretty much any girl he wants, falls for this ordinary but special girl. i think this is what i like most. even though most may want her to fall for the secondary lover, i was always pulling for the jerk, because you knew his love for her was so complete. i love all the cliches of these asian dramas..i will keep watching..i really dont watch american tv shows anymore.. ironically enought the only usa show i watch is fresh off the boat, about an asian family making it in the usa...thanks for reading

Review of "Meteor Garden"

- To be honest I don't know how I even made it through this show. I say this because as the person I am today I wouldn't have lasted 10 maybe not even 10 epispdes. Thats how frustrating this series was.
- The things that saved this show were the side characters/couples and the soundtrack.
- I pereonally enjoyed the side characters/couples more than I did the main couple/characters. This was mainly because it seemed like they had more depth to them. They main couple was full of cliches and straight up bull while still managing to make me cringe in a bad way. To side characters stories were heart-breaking, funny, and just more realistic. I'm all for throwing in some cringy, unrealistic love scenes here and there bc this is a drama its gonna be there but the main couple kind of overdid it.
- The soundtrack was fuxking awesome though, there were some scenes that really got to me just because of how sad the music was.
- Overall, I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone mostly because I wouldn't want them to experiemce the same pain I went through.

The One that started it all...

This was my very first CDrama and only my 4th Asian drama period. (Squid Game, Alice in Borderland and Sisyphous: The Myth.) This show made me mourn its ending so badly that I wound up on YouTube looking up the OST which lead me to eventually being able to mimick along with the songs (can you call it "singing" along if you dont speak the language? 🤣) and eventually lead me to KPop. I've now watched over 100 dramas and movies, I'm an official member of multiple KPop Bands, attended 4 livestream KPop concerts, have 3 premium subscriptions to Asian steaming video apps and am learning korean (it's a slow process, I'm lazy and have too many shows to watch 😅 I'm barely into vowels but I'm going to do it dammit!). And all in less than 10 months.
This drama started me down the rabbit hole and I've never been happier. it'll forever have a special place in my heart. The acting isn't great and there were so many cringe moments that I had to pause to calm down from laughing at how embarrassing or bad a scene was but the story was so good. it never let me down and there were MANY nights I got about 3 hrs of sleep because I HAD to find out what happened next. I laughed so hard and I cried uncontrollable sobs and the OST is amazing. Being in what I affectionately call my "Mid-life Crisis" this took me back to my younger days and remembering the newness of being attracted to someone and flirting and falling in love and I think that's why I became so obsessed with this show as well as all the other dramas I've watched. Every show I watch brings that feeling back and makes me feel young again. Is it Cheesy, Yes. Is it embarrassing to swoon over boys half my age, Yup. Is it worth watching anyway, Absolutely!
I've also watched the Korean Version 'Boys Over Flowers' (OMG the hair! still cant see that preview without laughing) and the Japanese and Thai versions are also on my watch list.
Oh! and if you watch this, watch 'My Unicorn Girl' afterwards, (it's cute and you get to see more Darren Chen!) there's a huge Easter egg in it that I screamed and laughed so hard I literally woke my entire household up 🤣

8.5.22 - I wanted to come back and update this review to say, I just finished the Hana Yori Dango trilogy and I now fully understand the obsession with it. But I also wanted to say that Meteor Garden was the closest adaptation to the original. The Korean Version was like a "Cliff's Notes" highlight version but with Meteor Garden you get the full story. And while Hana Yori Dango now takes my top spot for the Best of all the versions, Meteor Garden still holds a very special place in my heart. This story, no matter what language it's told in, is timeless and will never get old.

I also understand why they went so obnoxious with the hair in the HYD adaptations 🤣🤣

I have to admit I have not seen the previous versions of this story plot, which I think existed in many other countries/languages. This was my first experience and I really enjoyed it. The female and male lead roles really hit it off and made this Rom-Com worthwhile to watch.
Story line is quite predictable ending up with a happy ending. However the interactions between the 'bad boy' attitude male lead and the innocent female lead were good and very convincing. The back story on the rest of the F4 gang also made the whole story line tie together nicely. Brings back a lot of high school memories.
The best part was the soundtrack, you can get it on iTunes. I have been listening to the songs and replaying the movie scenes in my head. Very catchy Mandarin Pop, which gives an uplifted feeling when listening to it.
Overall, very good experience watching this series and did not regret it. But I do not think I would jump into re-watching it too quickly because there are others out there which are better.

I loved it!

Okay... So I will first make it clear that this drama is too long , so there are chances that you may drop this drama in the middle and if you watch it till the last you will love it !

Actually I haven't watched anyother remakes as I am just a C - drama watcher but I am moving towards K- dramas coz C - dramas are too lengthy . I love C - dramas but I am a student also and I don't have that much time to waste on that much episodes. I am just an international fan of this dramas.

First all of the story is good and not that interesting but also not that bad .. The characters make this story beautiful . F4 ( Main 4 actors) is well portrayed by as Daoming Si , Huaze Lie , Ximen Yan , Meizuo by Dylan Wang Hedi , Darren , Caesar Wu and Conor respectively . Shancai (Main actress) played by Shen is yue is just a powerful character after Zhuang ( Dao Ming Si 's sister) . The story revolves around the poor family background Shancai and rich Daoming Si about how Shancai enters Daoming Si's life and turns the rude Daoming Si in a well mannered Daoming Si and how they fall in love with eachother and how Daoming Feng ( Daoming Si's mom ) opposses their relationship .

What's more lovely in this drama
1) Shancai and Daoming Si's romance.
2) Real thoughts towards eachother between the main leads and no blushing like another dramas .
3) Many couples in the drama.
4) Story lines which are up and down .
5) Ximen and Xaoyou's story.
6) F4's friendship
7) Beautiful characters
8) Ending was satisfying because most of c dramas have a incomplete ending which feels like hell!
9) Ms .Yu 's character is adorable .

What I didn't like in the drama:
1) Huaze Lie and Jing didn't make up together till the last episode .
2) Meizuo's and Caina's story was hilarious . If Caina loved terrance that much then why did this showed interest in Meizuo .Felt bad for Meizuo coz till the last episode he was lonely.
3) Too long drama
4) In first 30 episodes it feels okay but the next 10 episodes ( episode no. 30- 40) feel terrible to watch . Last nine episodes are bomb !
5) Main leads are sometimes weird because they make promises about not leaving eachother and either of one of them many times easily giveup by Daoming Feng's attack !
6) Also Zhen and Qinghe have got a better end because they kiss for one scene and in the final episode they are wishing to get a partener looking at the meteor shower! Hola that's confusing .
7) Sometimes Huaze Lie is bit confusing to understand.

Overall the drama is a must watched but if you are not a long drama watcher , plz don't watch , you may drop in between .

I have seen the taiwanese version of Meteor Garden when I was in high school. The time when it was aired. And it was a phenomenal no doubt about that. And it made my teenage heart confused on who to choose between Dao Ming Si and Hua Ze Lei. Lol like SC i go back and forth between DMS and HZL. For Boys Over Flower, Im sorry but I never liked LMH as the DMS, I had a major 2nd lead syndrome with Ji Hoo but i was nevee really drawn to the story of this version. It lacked humor. I tried watching HYD but im just not into jdramas.

When I heard that there will be a new chinese version of MG I wasnt at all that hyped since I knew the cast will be definitely younger/millenials but still wanted to check it out. When it came out i tried watching it without subs (coz i couldnt wait) lol and I found it boring. See?? so i wasnt directly drawn to dylan wang's visuals ? the first thing i actually noticed was Shan Cai's short hair!!!! i was afraid itd be so much like BOF!!! thank God its not!! Then i was gonna give it up but i gave it another try(already with subs) the BOOM!!!! DYLAN WANG as Dao Ming Si just made me soooo crazy!!! Being handsome is just a bonus ? its his ACTING!! His expressions ,especially his eyes!! It is filled with different emotions and you could actually feel the PAIN and HURT he's feeling bcoz of the girl he loves. I honestly didnt feel that from Jerry Yan (esp the break up in the rain). Dylan pulled it off!! All of the heartbreaking scenes!!! Same thing with expressing his love for SC!!! He is the sweetest DMS!!!! ❤
While being crazy over him I searched about him and his previous dramas, OMG to my surprise HE IS A ROOKIE!!! Lol I really thought he was an experienced actor. AND I GAVE 10 STARS FOR THE ACTING/CAST BECAUSE ITS ALL FOR DYLAN WANG lol

as for the chemistry of Dylan Wang and Shen Yue, it was great. It has to be, since thats a big factor for a romance drama. Dylan is definitely shippable to any actress.

As for the character of Shan Cai, shen yue's not bad tho she wasnt all that great either coz there were times she felt kinda annoying (maybe her version of SC is annoying haha) and its great that they dubbed her tho coz her voice is kinda deep it wouldnt suit SC's character especially the screaming lol. Barbie is still the best Shan Cai for me.

The only thing i hate about the drama is Meizuo and Caina!!!!! TOTALLY IRRELEVANT!!!!!!!!! So much episodes were wasted bcoz of their pointless story. And I dont really like Connor. His acting is AWKWARD and Unnatural.

Overall!! Its great!!!! And i still keep rewatching it ?

I made an account just to review this show.

It was absolutely fun to watch and I binged watched all 49 episodes. I cried my eyes out on some parts, screamed in my pillow while falling in love, and got mad when I was suppose to.

The acting was great, I really felt heart broken when they did etc.

One thing I did not like: the ending.
And also, I felt like some things might have been subtitled wrong (in English) but that’s not a big deal.

Overall 8.5! Would’ve been a 10 if the ending wasn’t rushed.

Highly recommend

I think I’ve watched all the Meteor Garden version, from Taiwanese Meteor Garden at 2001, Japanese Hana Yori Dango and Korean Boys Over Flower. For me, this Chinese Meteor Garden 2018 is the best version. Not only the F4 casts are stunning (fangirling mode ON), but the plot and the content is the best too.

First, the bullying still make sense, there’s no exaggerated bullying from F4, they’re challenge the Joker Card receiver with poker game, no bullying from the entire school.

Second, Daoming Si told to be the clever student. That’s more reasonable since he’s the heir of the clan.
Third, there’s a story part for Meizuo too. The story not only focused on Daoming Si, Shan Cai and Huaze Lei, but the rest of F4 get the story too.

Fourth, even the plot still similar, but the dramatic part feels more real and that makes the pain feel real too. I don’t know for the rest of you, but for me the male and female lead really get the chemistry. They act so naturally. Maybe because of that the entire scene really get the feeling.

Me, for sure, will be watch this movie again someday <3 <3 <3

I think that Meteor Garden was a great drama. However, I haven't read or watched other adaptations or the original. The Chinese adaptation simply caught my eye on Netflix. I was quickly engrossed in the show. I couldn't wait for more episodes to be released. The actors were all incredible and the soundtrack was great. The rewatch value is a little lower because it is very lengthy and sometimes repetitive, but that may just be how I view it. The story rating is only 8.5 because I was disappointed with the ending. I was very confused and I felt like it could've been explained a lot better. I thought it could've just been me but my mum watched it and was also disappointed with the lack of explanation during the final episode. Overall, I think it's worth watching. It has a few funny moments, many heartwarming moments, and sad moments. It definitely makes you feel a range of emotions.

This is literally the best drama I ever had. Even though it has 49 episodes that is way too long journey but I didn’t regret watching this drama. I have just completed it and I am literally dying inside,I wish I could forget this drama and watch it again. Everything is Dope!!! And also I like Daoming Si’s pineapple head lol. Everybody was cute and I am really impressed by the love story they showed between the two. Also, I like every song of the drama. It will always be my first best drama

This is literally the only cdrama i enjoyed from start to finish, i have yet to find one where i don't skip through scenes. The length it takes for them together I kind of enjoyed cus then i didn't get tired of the couple and not ship them anymore. Truly better than bof if i do say so myself. Can't really go in depth with this review since the last I watched it was the beginning of 2019 but I remember crying for days because I finished it. Which resulted in me being the ost and the whole dvd set...
