Mr. Sunshine

미스터 션샤인 ‧ Drama ‧ 2018
Both dramas are very different from anything you expect from regular sageuks. They are visually very different and the characters are portrayed in a unique way to sageuks.

Turbulent times. The modern and the old coexisting and clashing. Old ways and old customs are portrayed in a way that make them look strange and exotic.

It gave off the same feels. Both have the idea of fighting against the Japanese occupation. Both have that forbidden love.

Both are historical dramas with strong female leads. You end up loving the main characters as well as the side characters and feel invested in their stories. The pacing in both is fast and you are hooked. Also, SO MUCH BROMANCE.

Another period drama with a strong female lead and a similar male lead. Both plots are very addictive and the cast in both dramas are well known actors or idols.

uncle samsik is like a continuation of mr sunshine, one set in 1900-20s while the other is around 1940-60s
uncle samsik isn't as "romanticized", and more political scheming, but the addition of byun yohan really makes it feel like a sequal

Both have very brave female leads. Both during war time. Male leads in military or police. Lots of scary and dangerous moment. War is tragedy

Recommendations are more than similarities between 2 dramas..
At 1st glance they share nothing in common but manwol is kinda similar to hina from mr sunshine. They both own a hotel, they have a similar taste in fashion and they are both strong female worriers though hina is slightly more "playful"..
If you loved and missed hina then this is a great drama~
Also both are really aesthetically appealing..

You may want to take this recommendation with a grain of salt, because even I have to admit this may be a stretch. There are few clear similarities between these dramas in terms of story, relationships, or characters, but I finished rewatching Mr. Sunshine while Our Movie was airing and somehow I just felt there was some kinship there. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. Probably the classic melodrama elements? Perhaps the rather reserved older MLs? Both are quite artfully made, though in somewhat different ways (for example, Mr. Sunshine uses visual motifs while Our Movie seamlessly edits in flashbacks and movie sequences). I think the writing also has some similarities—the scripts are not necessarily thematically profound but they can be somewhat poetic with foreshadowing or lines that make subtle call backs to earlier scenes. The stories have emotional poignancy and an old-fashioned romanticism.

Around the same time period. Features strong fighting women and focuses on patriotism. A lot of conflict between Japan and Korea.

Both revolve around Japanese occupation of different countries, and are based on female leads who are privileged but also want to do something to change the state of affairs in their countries.

both River Where the Moon Rises and Mr. Sunshine are similar in their amazing strong warrior female leads that can fight on their own

It is a Joseon-period historical drama. I would love for this show to be picked up by Netflix so that I could watch it with English subtitles. I love other Korean historical dramas, e.g., Mr. Sunshine, Mr. Queen, The King's Affection, and Rookie Historian! More, please! I am an English-speaking US citizen hooked on South Korean TV shows. I am learning a little bit about the Korean language, culture, and history as I watch.

Same theme - korean independence army fighting against Japan, strong female lead, characters you have to love, packed with action and beautifully shot scenes.

Em ambos os dramas predominam o contexto histórico, cenário de guerra, militarismo, perdas. Em ambos os amantes não ficam juntos e há muitas tragédias.
