The Player Episode 1 Reactions
I was excited . . . but . . . this was a very rough start. Not to mention it did something that I have come to loath in TV series/movie storytelling. Where we see the "team" or key event working well, then boom! Flashback to them first teaming up. In this case it's 3 months earlier. I know it's more a personal thing now, but I do feel like it takes a lot away from the storytelling. You can start at the beginning and grab viewers with the characters so that we care about them before all the flashy stuff happens.
Also, I hope Players isn't going to be another lame drama that promises me an amazing woman lead to only have her be an accessory here and there. Krystal as Ah Ryung intrigues me. She already looks so suited to the role of bad@$$ getaway driver. However, they just had her pop up on the road to scare some police and then do some minor surveillance. So far she's just looked pretty and isn't part of the gang. I'm hoping she'll get more developed and actually be part of the crew. I don't want such promising strong woman character to be lost. I mean how often are we gonna be given a woman like this in a drama? Hmmmm. Not only that I don't want her to just tale people and drive flashy off to the side. That's silly.
I also felt like the story was not put together. It even skipped along weird and I wondered what the heck had happened. What this new scene had to do with it and so on.
The feel of the drama is cool. I'll give it that. Enough forced chic with campy fun to make it feel genuine. It just needs a lot of work. I don't care for any of the male leads at this point. They're basic stereotypes of the genre.
