Very Addictive
At first I don’t like to watch it because I hate long series. But when I read the reviews I was like okay I’ll give it a chance and try to watch the first episode. First episode is a little confusing and I was thinking of not to continue watching it. But, then I thought why not finish two or more episodes and if I still don’t like the story I’ll just leave it. And wow I’m so thankful that I did not drop it coz after watching the next episodes I can’t get enough of it and I wanted to finish the whole series in one day hahaha. This drama is really addictive, until now after watching it for many times I still can’t move on. Acting and chemistry are great. I highly recommend this drama. Was this review helpful to you?

Although not really blown away, I understand the hype
First of all, I want to say thank you to the one brave and open-minded employee in the Chinese Censorship Authority who greenlighted this drama! Knowing about the censorship process tv shows must go through in China I expected to watch as show about two very good and close friends but surprisingly the undertones of the relationship are there, without the hug and the kisses of course. I mean at some point I think someone mentions an inappropriate or intimate relationship between the two (or something along those lines)Now as far as critically acclaimed and hyped-up dramas go, this kind of lived up to the hype. I also really like the ending credits song.
I would say that 50 episodes did not feel long, and the story had a good pace, but the story was at some points confusing and the fact that there are so many characters with at least 3 name each did not help! Sometimes I found myself lost and not paying attention. Although there were some amazing parts, the show just failed to completely draw me in and make me completely invested to the characters.
Wen Ning my good, zombie -ghost-possessed little soldier was by far my favourite character and the only one I really cared for getting a happy ending!
As far as the acting goes the two main leads along with a couple of other cast members, did a great job although it took a while for me to feel and see their chemistry (maybe around episode 14).
All in all this is a good show and I get my is loved and considered a must watch by many.

An amazing series
This series is beautiful in every way. the characters and storyline are perfectly set. The actor's chemistry is amazing. This is close to the book and was a great action, character growth, and chemistry. The only down part was that it was censored without the real beauty of it being BL. It is sad that China is still living in the dark ages and censored anything of BL. This would be a 10 easily if they allowed for it to be fully shown and shown the right way with the beauty of BL. The bromance was nice, but you always felt you were missing the true BL of even a tender kiss would have made all the difference. The two main actors were amazing playing the characters and you felt the growth and development of their love. The books are even better. Please China grow up and stop censoring the BL world and welcome it.Was this review helpful to you?

Wang Yi Bo is AMAZING and Lan Wang Ji. Just fantastic and fascinating. I have never heard of this guy before or seen him in anything before and he just blew me away. The character he plays is so stoic. And sometimes he has to show his emotions through a twitch in his jaw or the way he eyes move or the way he looks at Wei Wuxian. He is just so amazing. I loved it. The director did amazing job with him too. Xiao Zhan - I have mixed feelings about him. I think there were times he was amazing, but there were also times where he was overacting and it totally felt like over acting (example - when he's running away from fairy - this is one of many). But at the same time I think XZ and WYB had amazing chemistry.
Wang ZhouCheng - Probably one of my favorites in this show. I never would have guessed he was a newcomer. He was PHENOMENAL. And his heart-breaking romance with Wen Qing!!! 3 His whole storyline made me cry so much and scream at the screen. Like why were you so easily manipulated Jiang Cheng! Why couldn't you stand by your brother and your woman!!!!!? So what if the whole world was against them? You were the one person who should have been on their side no matter what!
Wen Ning & Wen Qing - Another beautiful pair of characters! So amazing! Both of them! their Actors did such a fantastic job too!
I watched the animated series before I watched the live-action, and I had heard that the live-action was difficult to follow. Maybe it was because I was familiar with the story-line that I didn't find it confusing. But there were times where I preferred the animated show.
The romance between LWJ & WWX is not emphasized at all. In fact it is not mentioned at all. There are two times it is hinted upon more than subtly:
1) when WWX tells LWJ that if he has to die he'd rather die by LWJ's hand and LWJ "cries".
2) LWJ gets drunk and the next morning he asks WWX if he said anything and WWX teases him saying that LWJ said "I like..." and LWJ gets flustered.
I haven't read the novel yet, but I know that the novel has a lot more flirting (WWX) and more obvious romantic stuff like confessions and kisses, I get why kisses (China, censorship and homophobia) weren't there, but I wish we would have gotten the confessions at least. The open-endedness was ok, but also frustrating - especially knowing that in the novel they end up getting married.

Definitely a MUST WATCH!
Watched this without knowing anything about the origin of the story (the novel). All characters are well developed and will definitely leave a mark on you not just the main characters. I can't believe it's possible to rewatch a 50 episode series multiple times and feel like it's the very first time you're watching it each time. I can't get over the way Wei Wuxian smiles or laughs and how Lan Wangji was lured by his charm 😅 . The plot has a lot to offer as it incorporated loyalty and love of family, friendship, betrayal, and a lot more. You'll be in for a roller coaster ride of emotions that I felt my heart literally aching specially for Wei Wuxian who has been gravely misunderstood through most of the series. There were people though who really continued to believe in him despite of what they "see." This show has cemented it's place in my heart that I believe I'll continue to rewatch it from time to time just to "visit" the characters I have come to love. Don't miss out!Was this review helpful to you?

A perfect balance of heartwarming relationships and frustrating and twisting plots
I just finished watching The Untamed and it's currently the highest ranked out of all the dramas I've watched1. The storyline: The storyline was well thought out, rich, and thorough without major plot holes. I really enjoyed how the drama went back in time and then relapsed, then continued after Wei Wuxian's reappearance. I also really enjoyed the side plots, my favorite being the one with Xiao Xianchen, Jing, and Xue Yang. Although most Chinese dramas have a tendency to dissipate and have a terrible endings, I actually really enjoyed this ending. By the ending, the story was unique in that the typical villains were actually backed by other unsuspected characters which kept me hooked the whole time. This drama is one to watch the whole way through and not skip any parts.
One of my favorite things about this drama was the character development and character relationships. They were rich, exciting, and incited many different emotions for the characters. The villians weren't as fleshed out as, say, Ashes of Love, but I don't think that's a major pitfall for this drama because I enjoyed the other character growth. I
2. Production: There weren't any glaring problems with the set or greenscreen, and I liked how they used stunts and special effects in moderation. When they used greenscreens or digitally produced backgrounds, they did a very good job matching the lighting so that it wouldn't be horribly unsettling. I usually skip through asian drama fight scenes because of how repetitive they get, but for this drama I watched through each one because it was choreographed and executed beautifully, and also didn't over/underuse stunts and special effects.
3. The soundtrack: I love the original song for the characters, especially the main theme song. It fit in well with the storyline, and created a more dramatic mood when watching. The motives that were repeated alone or in the music helped bring a "togethernesS" to the whole screenplay
4. Acting: The actors are wonderful at portraying their given characters, and I didn't see one flaw or awkward moment. Sometimes the tears did look fake but that is a pitfall of most screencasted dramas. However, Xiao Zhan did a wonderful job portraying all of the aspects of Wei Wuxian, from carefree, confidant to dark and troubled. Wang Yibo did a wonderful job with the stony-faced Lan Wangji, and there were subtleties in each of his facial expressions that brought out the emotions of his character without going too overboard. Also, the fighting and stunts were flawless, as expected, since the two main actors are stage performers. I could feel their "stage presence" from the screen and it gave them a better quality of acting on the screen. The actors are all super good-looking too, which definitely helps. Xiao Zhan's smile is to die for.

It is perfect.
I just personally love The Untamed. Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan did an excellent job at expressing what the characters feel in the novel without any intimacy and still working in line with the rules and regulations of China T.V. If you're here to just chill, listen to beautiful music, watch actors slay their jobs and see a beautiful relationship grow and blossom, The Untamed hits all of these points. And also, you get to, as a watcher who knows what the story really is about, be in on Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian's relationship and scream FUCK YOU to the ban in China. Was this review helpful to you?

Oh boy, buckle up and pay attention
Better yet, read the novel and watch the anime before this otherwise you'll make one of the many Jiang Cheng faces for 10 to 15 episodes (you'll know what I mean soon or just google it lol) - i.e. the plot is complicated af, you're thrown in at present day, switch to past, everyone has 3 names ... but when WWX and LWj call each other by their first ones you'll die of dokidoki every. single. time. Aaaahhhhh! It's so good. So, what's bad about this? Let me tell you, it will ruin you. It'll ruin every other Wuxia and Xianxia for you. It'll ruin you for any other BL couple. Every other production will look cheap and heartless, every other music will seem insignificant after Wuji and you will forever stalk social media for Yizhan content. It's bad.
This has 50 eps and you'll wish it were 500. I'm serious!
Don't watch this if you're only starting out in the genre. Mark my words, people.
The tl;dr:
+ the actors, all of them. All!
+ the music. T_T
+ production overall, set, costume, cinematography, direction (you can tell they are top qual directors wow)
+ the way they laugh in censors' faces with the non-subtlety oh booooyyyyy
+ WWX's smile and LWj's eyes
+ the plot, the heartbreak, the drama!
- it's too short, I'm serious, 50 is not enough
- Chn gov those petty old farts with their censorship
- Jiang Cheng faces. I mean, Wang Zuocheng is a fantastic cute sweetheart we must protect under any circumstance but they kinda left him hanging there as the show's joke. Could've coached him a little there....this precious babe

one of the best dramas out there
i finished watching the untamed three days ago but i still think about it, this drama genuinely takes your heart. It absolutely became one of my favorite dramas: the storyline, the acting, the ost are all amazing. I don't understand people who complain about the lack of kisses scenes or something like this, this drama doesn't need kisses scenes because just the way !! wei ying and lan wangji stare at each other !! make you understand that they LOVE one another !! their dialogues are also so beautiful.. wwx & lwj's relationship is so deep and rare and i loved them so freaking much. i absolutely recommend to watch the untamed because it's worth it!Was this review helpful to you?
