Dumplings (2004)

I am actually stunned that nobody wrote a review, well here it goes:

This is somehow a good movie, it has a nice story that is obsessive, gruesome and frankly really understandable. And after this movie, you'll see the real story behind it; What people really can do to achieve beauty. So in this way I found the story really unique!

The acting is also very good, I was sucked into it, and could totally understand the main lead. The way they filmed this movie was really good, they did show some scenes that might be sickening for some, but I really liked it. It was not over the top or not believe-able.

I would recommend it to anyone to see this movie, a strong and unique movie, great actors and you'll get sucked into the movie right away, but if you got a weak stomach, it might be better to skip this movie.

pls don’t eat while watching

This is definitely one of my favorite Hong Kong movies. It was well worth watching though a bit predictable to begin with. There were definitely some scenes and sound effects that made me uncomfortable, but not to the extent where I had to stop watching.

The female lead helped contribute greatly to the discomfort. Hence I think they did an amazing job with casting because she embodies the insecurities of getting older. I appreciate the message of the movie. People will go through lengths to maintain their beauty or indulge in some “fountain of youth.” I felt bad for the female lead, but the desire to stay young is something everyone goes through as they age.

Like the other reviewer said, if you have a weak stomach it’s probably best to stay away from this movie. HOWEVER, if your curiosity is piqued it won’t hurt to watch a few scenes as long as you’re prepared and you’re not eating anything.
