The acting and chemistry of the actors are good enough. I like Thien's mom the most, the character is very funny and always makes laugh. Every character has a strong role.

I like the cinematography. Myanmar is so beautiful.

But I don't like the story line, it's too forced, and a lot of it doesn't make sense. Too many slow motion scenes and unimportant scenes. Each episode is too long to tell a story that doesn't need to be told in detail. On the other hand, many stories that should be important are only told for a moment and made into flashback stories. Actually it doesn't have to be a story with a lot of twists, a simple story that if well described will be more interesting.

New Favorite Lakorn

I saw a review saying that they better have a happy ending after all they've been through and I can't agree more!

I was not expecting to like this drama as much as I did after reading the plot. Normally, I wouldn't watch a drama where the female lead is already love-struck with the male lead HOWEVER...this drama does it amazingly. This is my first lakorn so I don't have much to compare to but this one ticks most boxes - great chemistry between the leads, amazing humour, just enough build-up and a satisfying ending.

I genuinely can't tell you how many times I screamed out loud while watching this. I have both laughed my arse off and cried my arse off. There was so much tension just happening, not too much to make you frustrated but just enough to make you need to click on the next episode. I guarantee, you will not be bored though each episode is 1 hour 30 minutes. So many things happen and the dynamics between each character (including the side characters) is just so fun to watch. The action in this drama wasn't unnecessary unlike most, and the love between the leads is so genuine. The actors did a fantastic job capturing each emotion. If you're looking to break your heart once you realise that you'll never have the love like Muey and Tien...this is for you.

Overall, My Husband In Law is a must-watch for any drama-lovers and I can't love it any more.

TLDR:
- Amazing OST, (sang the songs many many times)
- Never boring
- Acting is on-point (cried in every scene)
- Has a lot of rewatch value (very funny and sweet)
- A lot of romance and tension (perfect buildup)
- 100% recommend
- The biggest flaw is that I'm afraid I'll never watch another drama better than this huhu

Breathtakingly beautiful.

I often find that lakorns are very droppable in the first few eps (though they grow on me later on). However, I fell in love with this one from the very start.

STORY:
The story is really cute. It's such a simple concept yet the writers managed to turn it into a beautiful masterpiece. There are some parts of the drama that I personally would not have thought of writing in (the hacking subplot) but other than that, I found every single second of the story enjoyable.

ACTING:
The acting was AMAZING. The two actors had great chemistry and during the scenes where they showed how much they loved each other, I almost forgot that this was a drama and that they weren't a real couple.
The side characters were a bit harder to love. They were very dramatic, so much so that it was hard to like their characters. However, this is a lakorn and all side characters are like that, so I'll let it slide.

MUSIC:
The music is by no means memorable. However, it goes well with the theme and story of the drama.

REWATCH VALUE:
I've seen this drama at least 4 times already. And each time with the same amount of enjoyment. Each time, I notice another small detail that was lovingly put into it by the creators of the drama, and every time, I become more and more obsessed.

The most flattering Skinship

I have trouble in watching lankorn. I might become biased towards the couple from the previous drama. So i stop watching lankorn and focused towards kdrama. Then.. my sister suggested this drama to me.. i was speechless.. i laugh, cry and angry together with them.. mix feeling while watching this drama. At first i was quite angry with the male lead character the way he threat the female lead was so selfish.. and then i get angry with the female lead afterwards cause she was so stubborn and insist to divorce but cryin at the same time.. but then ontop of that this drama had a lot of skinship which i didnt expect it anyways LOL.. the most flattering skinship i ever watch in lankorn. The soundtrack for this drama is another greatest archievement. Lankorn soundtrack never disappoint me.. the chemistry between mark and mew is another level. I didnt know the female lead was mewnita cause i never watch mew drama before. And i was ready to ship them in real life but knowing of them had their own partner i give up.. xD this drama totally recomended!!!

I saw someone accused that P'Thien raped Moei.

I don't agree with the statement that P'Thien raped Moei. I know that P'Thien's decision to make Moei drunken was not so right but his initial intention was not to start the sexual act towards Moei. He just intended to welcome Moei's actions towards him which were previously observed by him when Moei got drunken. He had to start just because Moei didn't start like last time. Moreover, Moei was not totally drunken yet and she had the consciousness to refuse P'Thien's actions. She did deny two times before she accepted and she allowed P'Thien to have sexual intercourse with her only when P'Thien said that he loves her. It's obvious that she gave consent and she was conscious enough to give consent. They two willingly enjoyed the night and both reminisces the beautiful and private relation between them persistently. Haeb and Hao are the bonus of that night.

I hate the fact that this only got 7.9!!!!!

This is my first time writing a review, because I can't accept the fact that this series got 7.9 real quick!! I saw the review before and it has 9.0 or 8.0+ score before. I didn't know what happened but why?

So let proceed to the story.
The story was indeed a roller coaster ride, it made me cry a whole night and laugh. So I am not going to spoil anything, I just want to say that you're gonna regret if you are not going to watch this masterpiece.
After watching this you will know why I said those things. Their acting skills and chemistry is on another level, I swear!

Underwhelming

Let me start by saying that I did like it.
But i have a few, well complain is a strong word, so lets go with dissatisfaction.
I love Mark, i do. But Why does he always play the mean guy turned nice. Its not just mean, he always plays a guy who is downright cruel a lot of the times. I know he can act different because I watched few other shows especially Kom Faek and I absolutely loved him in that. I loved his character there. That show finally showed his acting talents. But in this I was like “God! Mark is playing the cruel guy AGAIN”!

The thing that doesn’t make sense to me in this show is that.

🚨 SPOILER ALERT 🚨
IN THE ENDING WHEN HE SAYS that he always had feelings for her, makes no sense to me. Why was he always making her feel adequate and playing stupid mind games if his feelings are the same. I know that he doubts her but come on she was basically a slave to him. NOBODY DOES THAT WILLINGLY.

Lets not forget the RAPE. Just cause you’re married to someone it doesn’t mean you can have sex even when they are barely conscious or in this case DRUNK! First the FL talks about raping her husband and then he actually does it. This is not something you can brush over. Marital rape is a huge problem in our society. I am Asian so I personally know a few of these victims. SO FOR GODS SAKE DON’T DISREGARD MARITAL RAPE, ACTUALLY ANY KIND OF RAPE, LIKE THAT.

Overall it was great acting, good story and great chemistry And I LOVE HER MOM IN LAW but still left me a little underwhelmed.

This drama is perfect for two very specific types of people.

1. Fans of melo/makjang/over-the-top insanity.

2. Those who love laughing at said melo/makjang/over-the-top insanity.

I do not fall into category 1. I spent years going into Kdrama rom-coms all bushy tailed and bright eyed and then pulling my hair out whenever the makjang/melo would make an appearance. I would keep watching, of course, because true love requires commitment. But I would always lament why they had to include a final hour bout of amnesia, or why couldn't the male lead just finally wake up and recognize his terrible behavior sooner rather than later?

I also do not fall into category 2. (At least mostly.) I do not seek out makjang/melo/over-the-top dramas, and when a drama I'm watching turns into one, I find it frustrating rather than entertaining. I don't enjoy watching people be terrible for terrible's sake, I don't enjoy having my heart put through a torture device for the 'exquisiteness of heartbreak', stupid decisions made for the sake of plot drive me up the wall, and while I can certainly suspend disbelief when required by a story, I cannot just turn my brain off completely.

With Husband in Law, we have the super common set up. A contract marriage, the leads move in together, male lead is completely uninterested in (nay, actively dislikes) the female lead, female lead is hopelessly in love with the male lead since youth, they end up working together with him as her boss, yada yada yada. This is very common Asian drama territory, and I'm on board with all of it. But on top of this is a secondary couple with the most insanely toxic, abusive relationship. The girl is basically treated as a rag doll by her husband, and the husband is a truly vile villain. He's also out to get the male lead because the male lead slept with the abusive husband's wife (not knowing she was married), and he even almost successfully ends the male leads life.

I fully admit now that I did not care one iota about what's her face and her abusive husband. I abhor abuse, and watching it play out on screen is certainly upsetting, but it happens so often and is so extreme in contrast to the rest of the drama that you eventually become numb to the abusive yo-yo relationship of the villain couple and just want them to go away. This is the first drama I ever fast-forwarded, and it was mainly their scenes.

The rest of the story is mostly standard for these types of dramas, but they would often incorporate really random elements (which I guess is also standard for most melo/makjang). The most extreme example would be when the female lead suddenly becomes a genius hacker because story reasons and hacks into the male leads company. There has been no indication up to this point that the female lead has any sort of impressive computer skills. Truthfully, there's no indication she has any skills at all, so this feels more like 'let's insert a random conflict here so we can watch him be mean to her some more' than it does anything else.

What really hurts this drama the most though are the technical issues. The editing and pacing are truly terrible. Scenes just end inexplicably, and we're mostly tossed around in the story without a very clear framework. They do such a poor job of conveying important information to the audience, explaining character motivations, etc. that I often struggled to follow what was supposed to be going on and frequently found myself on the wrong end of the stick with the story.

This point is less important, but the music is Frequently dramatic at odd moments. I get they were trying to give scenes a certain feel, but they should have invested in one more track of music that could convey the right tone without making everything feel like a tense stand-off in a crime thriller.

Now that I've said all of this, it will probably surprise you to learn that I employed the 'laugh at the absurdity' method to watch this drama. I still don't fall into category 2, but once I'd gotten into the drama deep enough to be somewhat invested, I realized the only way through it was going to be with laughter. So laugh I did, and it mostly worked. Granted, it took me probably close to a year to finish this drama, because ^see above^. But laughing at the nonsense made it easier for me to enjoy the drama. And truthfully, there are some decent things about Husband in Law. The lead actors are fantastic. They sell their characters every which way from Sunday, and I found myself liking both of them in spite of myself. (And in spite of themselves, seeing as the male lead is a selfish ass most of the drama, and I spent most of the drama thinking the female lead was trying to convince him to love her when now I'm not so sure she was. (See critique about the editing.)) They also have fantastic chemistry together, which goes a long way in a drama like this. The male leads friends are fun (even if they're frequently a little Too goofy), and they were often much needed comic relief. They also consistently root for the female lead, which I haven't seen much of in dramas in the same style as Husband in Law. The female leads friends are equally wonderful, although not nearly as funny and not necessarily all that affective when it came to being of some actual benefit to the female lead. And the male leads family all love the female lead and consistently take her side. And of course, I'm already pre-disposed to enjoy the general premise/set-up of this drama.

Still, despite being able to get some enjoyment out of Husband in Law, I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't in one of the two categories I mentioned above. I was too far in to get out when I realized this drama was going to be too dramatic for me, but you don't have to make the same mistake. If you enjoy melo/makjang, this will be perfect for you. If you don't, watch something else instead.

Lady with an Iron Fist in a Velvet Gloves + Insanely Creative and Romantic Poems.

Above everything else, I wanna advise people to NEVER EVER let the previews stop you from watching this drama. I red through a lot of negative feedbacks and most of them drop it in the middle simply because they got tired of it or they don't like where the story is going. Where in fact, it's one of this production's unique way of getting the viewers attention and interest to keep watching it. Well... I have to admit that they did it severely to the point where it's already affecting the viewers mood but I assure you that this show is all "WORTH IT". So, hang in there!!!

This drama started rough for me— The constant display of abuse, adultery, violence and male chauvinism made me sick all throughout to the point I regret even watching it; but as time passes by everything started making all sense— That every piece of it was created and set up for a greater purpose and it was presented that way to make the whole story more interesting and dramatic. I even thought to myself that it's really been a while since I last watched a heavily plotted drama like this. Something I used to watch growing up and I should say... it made me feel nostalgic and satisfied overall.

Also, there may be times (like a lot of them hahaha) where I felt like the FL is just so great for the ML and that she should end up with the 2nd ML but after a while you'll just realize its true moral and value— that Love is to persevere. that it is something you need to work hard on to achieve. and I really wanna commend every single person behind the scene who made this drama possible. The journey might have been real rough and tough but it all paid off beyond satisfaction at the end.

Another thing is the insane budget for this drama. I love how they shoot the scenes in the most appropriate locations and how it felt so authentic all of the time. It even made me wanna visit Myanmar to enjoy the sceneries and the buddhist temples to peacefully pray and appreciate the religion and culture.

One last thing... I may not be that happy with the outcome of the LGBTQ relationships in this story but I should say that I'm satisfied. Kao Fang X Kang getting a happy ending while Not and Chet arriving on a healthy friendship even after the confession and rejection. Also, I will miss the Thien-Beer-Toon-Not & Muey-Tum-Pob-Kang Combi. They all made this drama extra fun, lively and colorful.

P.S. Everyone should brace themselves for the FLs character progression. She's a real BOMB. A person you shouldn't mess with. Someone who ruined the clichė weak-stupid-clumsy female character we all got used to. She shattered my expectation yet fed my fantasies and interests.

Story - 9.5, I finished the entire drama before I finally decide with this rating so I assure everyone that it's all worth it. It is a heavy plotted story that will surprise you with its twist and turns. It may appear disturbing, frustrating and irritating most of time but you must keep in mind that this is 'drama' afterall. So, I highly advise everyone to just sitback, relax, bear and finish the show. Hahaha!

Acting/Cast - 10, Excellent and Outstanding Actors and Actresses. God knows how satisfied I am with the castings and how I would never have anyone else act any of these characters aside from the original artists portraying them now. Mark is really good but Mew is on a calliber of her own. She deserves high praises for her flawless and solid acting ability.

Music - 10, It became the perfect instrument that made this show even more wonderful, enjoyable and dramatic. Every song blended naturally and I love how it accentuate the whole mood and feeling of the drama.

Rewatch Value - 10, Despite all the negative opinions I initially had with this show, I would still love to watch it again if given a chance to. This story taught me a lot. It inspires me so much and this will forever remain a memorable piece who gave me motivation and determination to pursue love the best and hardest way I possibly can.

Overall - 10, Well deserving! It may be a tough and frustrating rocky journey but it ended really well so it's all worth it. One thing I wanna say to anyone who may read this is to NEVER give in to your own disappointments and disheartenment while watching this drama. Just keep on pushing forward and you'll probably understand how I came up with this ratings. Susu na!!

BEST THAI DRAMA SO FAR!

I started watching the drama because of Mark but end up liking Mew more. Usually, I despise a drama with a flirty character of the female lead. But!! Moey character really hit me and I end up fall for her. I just love her so much. The way her smiling, speaking and the way she flirts with P'Thien was so adorable and it is not annoying at all. For me, Moey is a graceful female character with her own charisma. And I totally love it that way.

I watched lots of Thai drama, but I think this drama is really my no.1. The plot was so simple yet captivating my interest. It is really a good drama where you could learn how to flirt correctly. Hahahahaha... I just love her way of flirting with P'Thien so much & I can't stop talking about that. OMGGG!!!! What to do!!

I also want to give a big clap for Mark for successfully acting the character well. The way he look at Moey was so real and believe me! They really had great chemistry.

In my conclusion. the drama is really worth watching and I really enjoying the drama so much. I do have fun while watching this drama. Thank you

The charm of 'one-sided' love.

I loved this drama because it was such an easy watch for me. I was engrossed with Muey's journey and how she truly loved Thien. It was the kind of love that everyone aspires to receive. Mark's character, Thien, was a pain in the beginning. You know that you'd love him and that he'd eventually realize who Muey is in his life but he did some bad things to her first. I just really think Muey was enduring and Thien's love for her towards the end was something we all wanted. He aspired to build a home with Muey as he realized his heart. Thank God Muey played at least a little hard to get so that she can at least get something out of it, she knew that Thien was being real to her then. The 'villains' in this drama were annoying, as in any lakorn, but they don't really matter that much in the journey anyway. Over-all, I loved this series and I would definitely want to watch it again. I just hope that we can get a stable site for lakorns already.

Romanticising abusive behaviours

As a lakorn, this was alright. Not great, and they got lazy with several things like the gay and lesbian side stories and a late ungrounded reveal about the ML. And just no on using ridiculous straight boy fears of gay men hitting on them as a recurring punch line.

The problem, which many won't care about because it's all so normalised, is the type of rom com they crashed into it. The kind where abusive behaviours in the ML are magically transformed into happily ever after by the FL's enduring love.

Most viewers will just see this as adding drama and excitement, making his transformation all the more neuro-chemically rewarding for them. Many will dismiss it as "just fiction" or cite the mantra that they know the difference between it and reality, as if everything bouncing around in our brains stayed neatly in its assigned box. Our subconscious minds don't really work that way. Stories are powerful and we are narrative beings.

So when writers and directors make stories which parallel the kinds of things women (and sometimes men) in abusive relationships tell themselves - he'll change, he's doing this because he loves me, it will get better if ... - which keep them locked in the relationship, turning them into romanticised tropes, these stories cumulatively reinforce and normalise them. It's already hard enough to break free from an abusive relationship as it is. If you don't understand this, count your blessings.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The writers here had to have known what they were doing too, what with the density of controlling, manipulative and coercive behaviours they piled onto the ML (restricting her movements, contact with friends and internet, stalking her - getting into her house, love bombing her when she's finally gotten free as just a few of the egregious red flags) and the overtly, impossible to miss abuse from Phondech to Yada. How close they walked to rape before backing it away. He still forced alcohol on her to get her drunk, after she resisted in both actions and words, because he saw it as a way to get something he wanted.

There were times I wondered if they were subverting these tropes, which is what kept me watching longer than I should have (the irony of that, maybe they'll change, eh?), especially with the gender inversions they brought in or Yada's struggle to get free from both her husband and father and live for herself. But in the end, they whole-heartedly embraced the dangerously false narrative of an abusive man changing because a woman loves him. He still has his temper though, and centred his own emotions when the woman he "loves" was trying to get her head around her life-threatening health condition, the one he chose to hide from her. Consistency in character from the writing there, but also an indication that his "change" is self-serving. But it's a happy ending because rom com.

Stories don't need this to be compelling or entertaining. They could have made something different with Mew Nittha still sparkling as delulu sunshine. Let Mark Prin start as withdrawn and grumpy if you must, but give his character a real reason for it, not one he then turns on the FL in a late episode. Crash a rom com into a lakorn and use lakorn exaggeration to really examine and challenge toxic tropes.

There is so much more they could have done, maybe seemed to be heading in the direction towards doing, and this would have been better for it. Mew's comedic talents especially deserved more.
