This has enough chemistry to make handcuffs seem romantic.
How do you review HIStory3: Trapped when your main memories are crime scenes, mafia families, and two men flirting like their lives didn't literally depend on it?This series really looked at the "cop falls for gangster" trope and said, "What if we made it gayer, funnier, and somehow ridiculously wholesome?"
Tang Yi was a feared mafia boss carrying years of grief, guilt, and unanswered questions.
Meng Shao Fei was a detective powered entirely by determination, terrible self-preservation instincts, and an inability to mind his own business.
Naturally, they were perfect for each other.
Jake Hsu and Chris Wu delivered chemistry so effortless that half the time it felt less like acting and more like watching two people accidentally fall in love while solving crimes.
Tang Yi's carefully constructed walls never stood a chance against Shao Fei's endless optimism and complete refusal to leave him alone.
And honestly?
Neither did we.
Watching Tang Yi slowly lower his defenses while Shao Fei discovered there was far more to the gangster boss than rumors and headlines gave us one of the most satisfying relationship developments in Taiwanese BL.
Then came Jack and Zhao Zi.
The bodyguard and the chaos gremlin.
The soft giant and the tiny criminal.
The "I'll protect you with my life" and the "I'm going to make your life significantly more complicated."
Their relationship had absolutely no business being that adorable.
The supporting cast understood the assignment from start to finish.
Every member of the police department, every gangster under Tang Yi's command, every side character added something to the world and made the story feel larger than just the romance.
And can we talk about the people behind the scenes?
Director Lee Ching Jung somehow managed to balance action, comedy, suspense, and romance without sacrificing any of them.
The action scenes felt exciting, the emotional moments landed perfectly, and the humor never undercut the tension.
The production team leaned fully into the crime drama atmosphere while still remembering that the heart of the story was always the characters.
And the soundtrack?
An accomplice.
Absolutely guilty of helping this show commit emotional crimes.
HIStory3: Trapped wasn't trying to reinvent the crime genre.
It was asking an important question:
What if a detective and a mafia boss had more chemistry than most married couples?
The answer?
Television history.
This wasn't enemies-to-lovers.
This wasn't rivals-to-lovers.
This was detective × mafia boss with unresolved trauma and terrible boundaries.
10/10.
Would absolutely watch Shao Fei ignore every safety protocol while Tang Yi slowly realized he was hopelessly in love all over again.

Mafia Boss vs The Police? Heck Yeah!
I remember I watched this around December 2019 on my sister's recommendations. This is the best HIStory, imo. The story is very good and since I'm a simp for enemies-to-lovers troupe, this is perfect. The chemistry between the first couple and the 2nd couple are sooooo goood. The plot is great and the NC's timing were very good. I loved how they put comedy in this series too. They could make it serious but funny and sweet at the same time. but the ending kinda ruined it for me...LIKE WHY IT HAS TO END WITH TANG YI'S IMPRISONMENT?! FREE TANG YI!I would recommend this to someone who like detective/police series and love NC's between the couples.

A Captivating Mafia Crime Thriller with a Slightly Frustrating Cop Dynamic
The Story and the Gritty Mafia PlotHIStory3: Trapped is a highly entertaining and fast-paced drama that brilliantly mixes a gritty crime investigation with romance. The plot centers around a dangerous cat-and-mouse game between a smooth, calculated mafia boss and a passionate police officer who are both seeking the truth behind a tragic past incident. The narrative excels in its dark, suspenseful underworld politics, offering a solid action-romance format that keeps you hooked. It manages to balance the intense dangers of gang warfare with lighter, character-driven moments, making the overarching mystery highly engaging. The Characters and the "Pick Me" Vibe TensionThe dynamic between the leads is a fascinating contrast, though it can split viewer opinions. Tang Yi is the ultimate embodiment of a powerful, composed, and protective "alpha male" boss whose fierce loyalty and dark charm entirely carry the show. On the other hand, the police officer, Meng Shao Fei, can be quite polarizing. His stubbornness often borderlines on reckless stupidity, and his constant, loud attempts to get Tang Yi's attention can give off an irritating "pick me" energy. Despite the cop's sometimes frustrating behavior, the chemistry between the actors is undeniably strong, and watching the icy mafia leader slowly break his rules for him is highly satisfying.Action, Production, and ChemistryThe production value of this series is fantastic for its time, featuring sharp action choreography, tense interrogation scenes, and a captivating secondary couple that adds great depth to the overall story. The cinematography transitions well from dark, sleek mob offices to bright police stations, creating a distinct visual boundary between the two worlds. The energetic soundtrack perfectly matches the high stakes of the investigations and the emotional growth of the characters.VerdictThis is a staple Taiwanese BL drama that delivers an exceptional mafia romance full of protective instincts and danger. While the main police character might feel a bit too loud or naive for some viewers, the stellar performance of the mafia lead and the gripping crime plot completely overshadow any frustrations. If you love stories about forbidden connections, dark loyalty, and powerful male leads, this series is an absolute must-watch.Was this review helpful to you?
I'm in love !!
I’ve genuinely lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched HIStory 3: Trapped at this point 😭 it’s that kind of series.First, the cast absolutely carries this show. The chemistry between the actors feels so natural, both on-screen and in behind-the-scenes clips. You can really tell they understood their characters while still having genuine comfort with each other, and that translates into every interaction.
The relationship between Shao Fei and Tang Yi is easily one of the best enemies-to-lovers developments in BL. It doesn’t feel rushed or forced , they actually build it. You see why Tang Yi is guarded, why Shao Fei pushes so hard, and how they slowly meet in the middle. Shao Fei being so open and loud about his feelings is honestly refreshing, while Tang Yi’s slow shift from cold and controlled to vulnerable and soft is just chef’s kiss. Their dynamic keeps you hooked because you’re constantly wondering what will happen next.
What really stands out is how engaging the story is. It keeps you guessing, lets you form theories, and then either proves you right or completely surprises you. It’s one of those shows where you’re too invested to stop watching.
Zhao Zi and Jack were also a really lovely side couple. Their relationship felt soft and genuine, but I do wish we got more screen time and development for them. There’s clearly a lot happening between them that we don’t fully get to see.
That said, the show definitely isn’t perfect. The first few episodes can feel a bit messy and even cringe at times, especially with the overly comedic tone and how incompetent the police are portrayed. If you think too hard about the logic, a lot of things don’t make sense. But honestly, once you stop taking it too seriously, it becomes so much more enjoyable.
Overall, it’s emotional, addictive, and full of memorable moments. The romance, the tension, the character growth , it all just works. Even with its flaws, this is one of those BLs that stays with you long after you finish it.

Amazing love story, packed with action, cuteness, and perfect chemistry
I am not an ease one to please. If fact, I rarely get excited by BL movies and dramas (although I keep watching them for some reason....), but this one was a completely different league. The story is mature (not your average boyish, coming-out plot). Everything revolves around a cat-and-mouse game between police and mafia. The main leads are simply perfect: cute, handsome (OK, I know they all are, but I had to mention it), with realistic characters, feelings and actions. Their characters evolve over time in a convincing way (one can understand why they change and what their thoughts are - this does not mean necessarily that one has to agree, but it's believable). The balance between romance and action is good, and the portion of intimacy just right. Everything is sprinkled with a dose of humor (but not too much to spoil the mixture), mainly arising from the side characters. The main characters gradually fall for each other (oh well it is a BL drama after all), but they do not question their feelings, rather they question their life choices and how they led them to today's situation. And this is what I expect from adults living in a modern society. There are the occasional ticklish scenes (such as provoking jealousy or fear), but not too much. Relationships are critically looked at, but not overdramatized. And people actually work, they do not just sit around discussing their heart's adventures, although the latter ones naturally emerge from the plot.
I consider this series a rare gem, which I personally rewatched twice (I can barely remember doing that for any other BL series). It is hard to tell if I am being objective, or it just hit the right nerve, but in my defence I am neither a cop nor a mafia member, so I wish to believe it is the first... :-)

Bromance
Liked both actors and their bromance! If you don’t think too much and enjoy their romance then it’s all good! It’s pretty sexy romance if you are into bromance shows! The main actor not the cop is quite handsome and I wouldn’t mind watching him in his next drama. The other main character all I couldn’t remember was his ears. But their chemistry was good and enjoyable to watch! Watching it one time was good enough but won’t watch it again. I am willing to watch any future drama of the handsome main lead. Was this review helpful to you?

I really love this show! It was one of the first ones I ever watched. The cop & gangster love story was super enjoyable, especially since I'm a fan of enemies-to-lovers plot. Meng Shao Fei & Tang Yi had great chemistry & I loved the mountain scener Jack & Zhao Li An were fun too, even if Zhao Li An felt a bit childish sometims. Tang Yis childhood story was sad, & wish he hadn't ended up in prison I also think he could've treated Meng Shao Fei belter since he shot him, but at least he defended him too, which kind of balanced it out. Overall, it was a really great show! Was this review helpful to you?
Cringey but I love it
This show had me rolling my eyes every bloody second but I love it. History3 Trapped was definitely better than the first two season. Even though it was less realistic it had a more interesting plot and excellent chemistry between the leads which was missing from the first two seasons. Also, it didn't enforce any problematic behaviours. I loved how this wasn't a high school or college plot, and I love the mystery, action plot they gave us. Especially on the budget that must have been available for this show.I really recommend this show if you're looking for a fun show, with quite an interesting in depth plot. If you're looking for something serious and realistic this probably isn't it.

CHEMISTRY OVERLOAD
April 13, 2021History 3: Trapped, hands down one of the steamiest and strongest chemistry out there for both main and second lead couple. However, there are major flaws in writing especially in the plot. Like how did Officer Meng went from hating Tang Yi to suddenly loving him. It was such a huge jump in terms of feelings that it bothered me so much. Also, HOW ON EARTH IS OFFICER MENG AND HIS SUBORDINATE THE ONE WHO IS LINKED WITH JACK BOTH POLICE. LIKE NOT GONNA LIE BUT THESE TWO CAN BE HUGE IMBECILES. Another huge plot that irked me is the villain, how can you make such a big deal of finding the real culprit then make it underwhelming the moment they are caught. It's like there was no climax...
Anyway on to the good stuff. Honestly, this would be a 10/10 if they fixed that storyline. I already talked about chemistry so now I'll talk about their dynamics. First of all, Officer Meng and Tang Yi, Officer Meng literally turned Tang Yi into such a soft puppy towards him only. Like, when Officer Meng did not answer him for a day, Tang Yi was about to bawl his eyes out. Also, I find their statement "let's kiss then talk" so hilarious. These two make out so good like daaaaamnnn. Their steamy scenes really got me running around my room like Tang Yi and Officer Meng are so aggressive even when they had angry s- yah that part heheh
Jack and Officer Meng's subordinate REALLY OUT HERE SHOWING WHAT LOVE CAN DO. JACK GAVE UP EVERYTHING FOR THAT MAN. IF THAT AIN'T LOVE THEN IDK WHAT THAT IS. They made me so jealous like I want this kind of relationship in my life. Jack has the biggest growth in terms of character development, I really wanted more of their scenes. I hope these two actors can star in another drama or even their own spin-off cause holy mother- their chemistry is just off the roof.

A Rom-Com Crime Drama with a Gangster-Cop Love Story
This is a BL that is more about its plot than it is about the queer romance of the two leads. I mean the twists you can see coming from a mile away. However, the acting is first-rate. The redemption arcs are well done. This story in the anthology series jumps between a serious crime drama and a truly hilarious rom-com. The side BL couple is just so much fun. I don't think they are necessary to the plot, but I love the eccentric Jack and the super naive/innocent police officer dynamic. The naive cop is a grandma's boy, has never dated anyone, and still has stuffed animals in his bed. He also will just walk on his hands in a scene just because its fun.I also liked this show because it definitely moves beyond stereotypes, especially the queer stereotypes.
This series arc in the HIStory anthology was truly a blast.

Talked up too Much
This will be all over the place just fyi.I had high expectations going in due to other people's tendency to exaggerate in their reviews and comments. This series didn't have a long list of sins that make it completely unwatchable like some but it just wasn't very good.
The tone was all over the place. It gad me really wondering what the heck was going on at the beginning. Since it seemed a little too light and silly but that could have just been Mr. Monkey. It didn't really fit with what I expected from the synopsis and the title. But then they get kidnapped and I'm like, okay here we go, it'll get darker form here since this is surely the beginning of how police man gets 'trapped' in the underworld. But then it's resolved by the end of the episode. There is nothing keeping him involved with the Mob besides his feelings and own stubbornness.
Also when it comes to the main couple, there is a lot that could have been there and probably should have been. Their off screen history leaves a lot of room to work with which they use none of. Everything past is only implied but they also somehow make it feel like there was nothing else there to see. Some of the intimacy was handled pretty well but the rest is awkward. I'm coming here from Jack & Joker though so my standards have risen significantly.
Mob guy actually almost gets a fully fleshed out character, or at least a backstory. His acting is pretty good. You can always tell how he feels and it hits. Monkey man doesn't have a past or much personality, just a motivation and some over acting.
A lot of people didn't like the sister's side plot romance. I did, I thought it was interesting. The feelings were there, it felt natural, a little taboo, conflicting but sweet. The concept and actors probably could have been their own series.
The music doesn't get much of a rank because I don't remember it at all and I finished watching last night.
It gets a 0 for rewatch because it simply does not make the cut for how top tier something needs to be to make me rewatch it. I typically don't rewatch things.

One of the best BLs I've watched
This is my first review here, sorry if it's bad, but I love this drama so much, I had to write something.First, I've watched this one I think two times and a "half", and I'm definitely not the type re-watch something, so that tells you something about the story.
The main couple is really sweet, and, even with the obstacles and the clear differences between them, they manage to be one of my favorite BL couples, the actors did SO WELL with them, even when they're not being intimate, you can tell they're attracted to each other. They're lowkey an enemies to lovers kind of couple, but I feel like there was always tension in between them. Also, when the policeman (I forgot their names lmao) started showing signs of liking, he was soooo cute.
Now, my favorite couple is actually the second one. They're so cute so sweet, they're were clearly going to be together from their first interaction, the amount of times I've watched YouTube compilations of those two together... God!! I love them!!! I love the contrast between the cute and naive policeman, with the "dark", clever and dirty minded mafia guy. And I love how they're were not toxic, and Jack never forced anything to happen. He knew exactly how to flirt, and I looooove their ending.
I would love to see a season 2 showing how their lives changed since starting being a relationship with a mafia person. That would be so cool!!!
