this drama start out great till episode 15. then it went down hill fast. i mean like really fast.like: the only thing keep me from dropping this drama after ep15 is to see the 2 lead whether they will end up together.
dislike: this drama could have been so much better. if the writer didnt make mo wan sleep with the king 2x. i still dont see how mo wan can not tell jun qing so they both can plot to kill the king together.instead the writer make mo wan sleep with the king again. i mean what is the use of ploting to kill the king when all she do is sleep with the king so she can kill all the other beside the king. who kill her?
i dont recommend rewatching this. unless u into a lead who sleep with her enemy.

Review from 3years ago. Lol!
Lol. The drama that finally made me sign up for an acc at MDL (instead of just reading anonymously before)First thing first, as someone who I dare say have watched a lot of chinese series, i have serious issues with the way the writer wrote how the characters behave in the setting of ancient times. No protocol whatsoever. Lots of times, i cant even brain if the writer forgot that she was currently writing an ancient historical drama, instead of modern. Lol
But after I decided to forego that aspect, it was more tolerable. I enjoyed the series for the romance. At first, it was the romance between Junqing and FL that keeps me going. And after the FL went on her own merry way for revenge, I have already invested (after spending so many hours watching the first half, am not going to just easily dropped the drama. Lol. Thats so me).
Came across this drama via mindless search. Watching the first ep, I discovered the ML is quite familiar and found that he is from handsome siblings,so a point to continue on. His acting is good, though im sure some will have issues with him being labelled as god of war with that cute handsome face of his. Lol. The romance between him and FL for first quarter of the story is basically what every fans would love to see (even though YMW’s fringe at first seriously need to go! I prefer when she only has sideway fringe rather than the full fringe). Ye Jun Qing is such a swornworthy character!
Unlike some viewers, I have already accepted from the start that Junqing fell in love for the second time with YMX again (in YMW’s body), so it doesnt disturb me that he ends up with her (though YMW is quite pitiful for not being able to live. Alas, we didnt know her at all actually from the storyline, it was always yao mo xin from the very start)
The storyline is all over the place sometimes, though after reading the comments, now i know it is to be blamed on having to cut the series from 70eps to 36. Despite that, it is still worth watching to the end for me. I even end up rewatching quite a lot of scenes and somes of my favourite almost always involve the scenes where ye jun qing gets hurt and boy, did he get hurt often! Lol. Sometimes, i even laugh on how junqing always end up being a damsel, what with him always getting hurt/stabbed/poisoned etc. 🤣🤣 Nonetheless, being a whore for ML whump, this is just my cup of tea! 🥰🤣
Jun Qing’s bromance with jinyi is a nice touch, as with ben lei. Though I think i must have missed how exactly did jinyi and junqing end up such a buddy in the first place? 🤔🤔
Notable mention of something that i feel the need to get off my chest:
-did the emperor wants Jun Qing to die or not??! Make up your mind please! Lol
-the most useless prime minister ever in the history of historical drama. How the heck did he got the position being such a wuss??
-Li Fei is such an annoying character, though I guess props to the actress
-whats wrong with all the women who love/fancy junqing. Shu Fei has already married the emperor, but still expect junqing to be with her?? At least mo wan has the excuse of being the love of junqing’s life. Lol. Princess Chang Feng is cute at first with her lil puppy love, but end up annoying in the middle when she forces junqing to love her despite knowing all along that she is the one offering to save him and he would never love her, but end up redeeming herself at the end after she ‘wakes up’ from dreaming. Lol
Notable good things:
-the action and fighting scenes are quite well done to my opinion. I always love seeing Ye Jun Qing fight scene

For those who like male lead
I watched the drama Renascence only because of the male lead. I have watched his other dramas and I really enjoy his acting.Regarding the drama, I liked it until the 19th episode; the story was somewhat captivating. After that, it became flat. I didn’t like the direction of the plot where she spent the whole day with him to complete her date list and even expressed her feelings by kissing him, but left him the same day. Since she planned to marry the king, why did she give him false hope, especially knowing he was already heartbroken?
Another part of the plot I didn’t like was when she surrendered herself to the king and spent a night with him, although Ye Jun Qing still resided in her heart.
After watching the entire drama, I felt it was a little boring.

but I did skip in the middle(21,22,23,24) so I don't know what happens
the ending was happy and sad at the same for both sisters ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I really have nothing important to say but I dd like the plot even it was messy, the girl sacrificed herself too much and making both of them suffer.

INFURATING and leaves a dark impression
A warning for the rom com lovers like me, it gets really DARK at times, avoid if possible.I started watching it only because the trailer depicted cool war scenes. I wish i never started this drama but I had to drag along because I wanted to see the MLs story (I had no love for the FL because of the s**t sacrifices she made). That says something about the storyline. I am not a big fan of dark dramas, even though I watched some, but this has to be hands down one of the INFURATING ones.
The production was decent with ok sound effects, good battle scenes and CGI.
What was the most infuriating story blocks - unwanted intimacy and f**ked up sacrifices.

“Isn’t this just for show? We are just seeing who is better at acting”
Story:Renascence is a historical drama which tells the story of Yao Mo Xin the Empress, Ye Hong Yi the Emperor and Ye Jun Qing God of the war of Chu. Empress Yao Mo Xin is poisoned and due to circumstances, her soul is switched with her younger sister’s. It’s the finding of the killer of the empress and revenge following, the basis of the story.
Main Characters & Acting:
Yao Mo Xin/ Yao Mo Wan is kind, friendly and quick-witted. She amazes at everything and impresses everyone with her deeds. That was the exact reason why both the brothers, Emperor, Ye Hong Yi and God of War, Ye Jun Qin fell in love with her immediately. Li Mo Zhi did a great job of carrying the role. The instances when she was childish were as fun to watch as she became, a serious and scheming consort. The gracefulness of the Consort was carried out perfectly. The character development of Yao Mo wan/Xin is commendable. (The role of Empress was carried out by Cheng Yan Qiu, which I couldn’t help but hope to have been better).
Ye Jun Qing is a smart and loyal brother of the emperor. He values relationships and sentiment over power and that has made him lose to his brother repeatedly. He is one of the very few characters who are direct and truthful. Chen Zhe Yuan was a treat to the eyes. Jun Qing was a very different role compared to Chen’s previous roles and he portrayed it beautifully. He can be seen as emotional and authoritative the majority of the time and he played it sometimes through actions and at times through facial expressions. The attitude of Jun Qing in one-on-one with the emperor in Ep 25 was amazing. The emotional scenes were performed well and convincingly. Overall he did an amazing job as Ye Jun Qing.
Ye Hong Yi is a manipulative, insecure and cunning emperor. He is ready to be a villain and dirty his hands for power. His one and only love is Yao Mo Xin which becomes his possession. He is also a vary of his brother. Johnny Zhang did an exceptional role as Hong Yi. The various feelings of love, betrayal, jealousy, lust, greed, and cruelty, were all shown with remarkable skill. The character transition was also smooth.
Most of the characters were beautifully portrayed like other consorts, Consort Li and Consort Shu who were an integral part of the story. But some characters were mis-casted.
Editing:
This is exactly where the drama fails miserably. It was originally a 70-episode drama which was cut short to 36 episodes. You can see that in one instance you just knew the character and, in another instance, they are a very integral part of the plot without a proper backstory. There were many heart-wrenching scenes throughout the drama which failed to capture the desired outcome from the viewers due to poor character/story build-up. Some stories did not have proper endings while others had unanswered questions. But what exactly can be expected from a half-cut drama?
OST:
Renascence had some great background scores and a soundtrack. These helped greatly in absorbing the feelings portrayed on screen.
Costume:
The drama is rich in designer costumes that are apt for precise occasions.
Yao Mo Wan had a pastel pink theme but had a transition in colour once she attained the noble consort title. Even the war costumes she wore were beautiful. The wedding dress of Great Shu was beautifully different from that of Great Chus’s.
Jun Qing can also be seen in majorly Grey but also in Black, white and blue costumes with distinct features.
All the different countries had distinct themes and costumes whereas the Country of Southland had a different theme than that of Great Chu, which was great to see.
Overall:
Renascence is an enjoyable drama regardless of the plot holes, poor editing and disjointed scenes. It had some interesting plot twists, good fight scenes, and commendable CGI. If one could let go of the negative issues of the drama and see it for what it is, one can surely enjoy it to the very last episode.

Should I watch?
If your one to only watch dramas in 1 ep and rate the whole drama for just ep 1 then I would at least want you to watch till ep 10. But if you really don't like it then that's fine.If your looking for a smart Female Lead, then this drama has one. But there is something about the Female lead character the really drives us to watch more, but in the same time wonder.
Now, I had a really hard time in the beginning of the story in which of the two male roles, I should trust, but as the story moves on to the next, the plots, events, and things that are uncovered really makes me sway to trust the male role that in the beginning I was unsure about. So this really adds a thrive to watch the next ep, and the next ep.
I must say in ep1 through somewhere before ep 10. Many things are fast pace, but don't worry later on in the story, and as it unfolds you'll understand everything and why it happened. There are many things in this story that are unexpected and make you say "Come On Whats Gonna Happen!!", "Come On Next episode!". In many dramas you think that a character is gonna die, like what happened to the other one before it. But no, it was as if it was just the opening of____________(sorry can't say...>o<)
There are many secrets in this Drama, and it will make you wanna cry. But just hang in there little by little, you'll feel at ease.If your wondering if this is a Happy ending..... Well~ just watch the trailer, and it gives ya some Easter eggs.
(DO NOT SKIP episodes, or you'll be really lost, and regret it)
I'll close it here the rest is for ya'll to find out! have fun!!! (By the time of this making this comment, I've currently watched ep1- ep22)

I kept waiting for...
I kept waiting for Mo yan to get her body back and have her own life. I ended up skipping many episodes to get to the end. Bummer.Omg why can’t I write just a few sentences. 500 characters jeez. Please let this be enough. How about now? How about now? How about now? Now? Abcsefghujklmnopqrstuvwxyz.
Watching to love now. It’s pretty good I wonder how many characters I have written at this point. Not 500 anyways.
How about now? Oh ffs. Still not enough. I’d they just had a character counter that would be great. Much better than this nonsense. Does anyone have a good way to waste the whole 500?

Painful, but beautiful
I've read some part of the book that was the source of the adaptation to this drama, so at first I expected too much, although I understand that I might be disappointed. As far as I've finished this drama, I'm disappointed with what happened to Mowan's soul. Because she was fainted for 36 episodes, but in the end she only wake up to die protecting her sister. Why not just stay like in the book? At least it won't feel wasted like this.
Or maybe it was on purpose so that Ye Junqing wouldn't have to choose between Mowan or Moxin?
The story itself is quite painful, but still beautiful. Ultimately it's all about Moxin. How she made the wrong choice in the past, and justifies her choice in the present, while finding her true love. Even though I'm still sad about the real Mowan's fate, it feels unfair for her.

Frustrating
There’s a reason this series was cut from 70 to 36 episodes and it’s because the plot sucks big time. Both Mo Xin and Mo Wan were idiots, together with King Su who was the most wishy washy Male lead ever. Idiot! The writers threw every cliche into this and still couldn’t make a decent enough drama. Ironically, the only character that I liked was the Emperor mostly because his motivations made sense even if his actions were despicable. For those comparing this to Yanxi Palace, you must have bumped your heads. If you’re looking for Palace drama with a witty female lead then watch Love Like the Galaxy. Was this review helpful to you?
