I was annoyed at Xiao Chun Hua at some point.. SGQY is the MVP~!!
This drama has a clear plan layed out well but I find it irritating at some point. However, I can't discredit it for such petty reasons since I still enjoy it as a whole. The first few episodes made me bored but it was able to pick up it's own pace. Anyways, I think it's also because of my mood that time so I never really treated it as a boring drama at all.
Moving on lemme just pin-point/highlight some things I was particular with this story...
× Love-Hate feelings for the FL for being so idealistic and righteous.
× Shangguan QiuYue's Unconditional, Selfless and genuine love for Chunhua made me go soft all of the time. He got some weird yet straightforward way of showing his affection that made the story extra lovely and fun to watch.
× Xiao Bai exudes so much Papa's boy Vibe for me. His idea always abides to his father/clans teachings and it made me feel sour of his character.
× Leng Ying killing Feng Cai Cai's father could be a great drama twist that I anticipated for it so much but turned out to be a great missed. They really try hard to preserved its light-hearted mood to such extent where plot holes arises.
Anyways, Still a Good drama to watch. I finished it longer than usual because of my crazy schedule but it's still worths it.
Story - 9.0, They tried so hard to keep it light-hearted that it misses some great drama plot opportunities and that leads to some questions and flaws rising one by one. I was never particular of such scenes but I felt disappointed that they didn't fully utilize it considering it has long 40 episodes.
Acting/Cast - 9.5, Acting are really good and convincing same with how the cast executed their characters. It's just I have some distastes towards some characters. Which is something personal.
Music - 10 Great choice of Music. I specifically love the Fun Narration with the opening theme and the insert songs were also good.
Rewatch Value - 9.0, Still deserving of such high score cause It simply showcases a lot of good points as well. I can never mistreat/misjudge a drama just because I hate some pieces of it.
Overall - 9.5, I honestly wanted to give it a 9.0 rating but Shangguan Qiu Yue saved this whole production for me. He's the MVP of this drama as a whole. A male lead who's reasonable, tactical and loving.

Could have been great
I hated the last few episodes hence the low rating. How tf does a character who talks so much and always has something to say become mute and can’t speak to clarify situations. To say I was pissed off at how Lusi’s character changed in the last few episodes is such an understatement. This chemistry and connection between Chu hua and Shanggan qui que was intense and hot so that’s why I’m left bewildered and baffled at their kiss scenes, it’s was so underwhelming, their lips didn’t even move, I guess I can blame that on the director. Another reason for my low rating. All in all really enjoyed the beginning and hated the ending. Was this review helpful to you?
Your prince charming will be the first man you see when you wake up
Very OTT, but so good. I sill watch extracts from it on Youtube from time to time. The best kind of tropey romance and my favorite Zhao Lusi drama (I find that she works best in this kind of absurd romantic romp). The male lead played by our Resting Bitch Face King Li Hong Yi is a total snake but he's irresistible and Zhao Lusi is perfect as the young and delicious dumbass who follows the first guy she sees in the new world like a baby chick. The drama lives on their chemistry, and...not much else. It has a very low budget (bad wigs, bad wigs everywhere) and the actor who plays Xiao Bai can't act, but the writing is just sharp enough to keep things interesting until the end (and sometimes suprisingly moving, it does have things to say about outcasts, duty, love, and sacrifice). Also this is totally a covert remake of Devil Beside You where the heroine tries desperatly to get with Mr Right but keeps being interrupted by hot fake Ge Ge who wants to do naughty stuff with her when others aren't watching. The show kinda tries to be a love triangle but Xiao Bai can't compete with Ge Ge's magnificence and he gets eaten by his rival's charisma and sex-appeal. Ge Ge is the Way.Was this review helpful to you?

This was some lazy storytelling...
I'm a huge fan of Zhao Lu Si and Li Hong Yi, so seeing them work together was an absolute delight. Those two were literally the saving grace of this series. But even then, I feel like they were somewhat underutilized. For example, it's well known that Zhao Lu Si excels at quirky humor, bringing loads of authentic, refreshing expressions and life to her roles. This translated well in the first four episodes, but eventually things became so somber and serious that nothing could distract the viewer from the terrible storytelling and constantly unraveling plot-like having Chun Hua get kidnapped every few episodes just to move the story along.
Though I loved the interactions between Chun Hua and Shangguan Qiu Yue, their screen time together was extremely brief for most of the series, and their chemistry didn't develop until well past the 20-episode mark. I was honestly confused most of the time since June Wu as Xiao Bai seemed more like the main ML, while Li Hong Yi was positioned more as the secondary ML. The way June Wu portrayed Xiao Bai was extremely wooden and unenjoyable to watch. Even when Xiao Bai began to fall for Chun Hua, there was no spark in their interactions, making those scenes a bit cringe.
So basically, the viewer is starved of Chun Hua and Shangguan Qiu Yue screen time while being given ample amounts of lackluster Chun Hua and Xiao Bai scenes.
To make matters worse, most of the 40 episodes are padded with storylines and relationships we care nothing about (such as the one between Qin Liu Feng and Leng Ning).
Then there's the cherry on top of this mess: the ending. I honestly thought it would conclude similarly to how the story began, but this time with the FL emerging from the pod (after dying from poisoning) and possibly encountering the second ML emerging from a pod as well, perhaps explaining to her how he ended up dying in the fantasy world. This would have provided perfect closure as they meet for the first time in true reality. But no, the writers decided to deliver the most convoluted, confusing, unsatisfactory ending they could think of-because why not?
The only thing that saved this series was watching Li Hong Yi randomly plant what must have been more than 20 kisses on Zhao Lu Si throughout the entire series. It was so amusing that I thought someone should create a drinking game based on just that.
Anyway, I gave it a 6/10 rather than a 7/10 because although it's watchable, 40 episodes is way too long. I'm sure quite a few people gave up on this series due to just that. The rest of us who really stuck in there to the end... had a huge cream pie thrown right at our faces, and must now go to bed crying over hours wasted.

Male Main Lead Won My Heart
It was Li Hong Yi's acting as Shang Guan Qiu Yue that really made the strongest reason why this drama is so worth watching. The acting of the rest of the cast is also pretty good. It's just that it's a pity, because this is a drama with a low budget, so it is very understandable if there are shortcomings on several sides. However, this drama is really worth watching again and again.
I don't know how many i rewatch this drama, cause i wanna see Shang Guan Qiu Yue again and again. His eyes can describe everything
Li Hong Yi SLAY IT

The music was Ok not memorable although there were times when the music reminded me of another shows OST so that confused me, I haven't felt the need to download or listen to the OST
The story was typical Chinese romance with some cultivation. Nothing really interesting or new. So good if you like that sort of show with silly female deciding between 2 male leads and always needing to be saved. I will say that is not my favorite thing and I really cannot stand the silly female leads and I feel like she was silly and annoying like 90% of the show.
Acting well lets say there was one really good actor and the rest were just OK. the Li Hing Yi portrayal of Shangguan Qiu Yue was outstanding and why I gave the acting higher marks. Rosy Zhao played Chun Hua the same as her other acting parts so nothing new just a stupid overly sweet girl.
What I liked and didn't like, since there was not a lot of really good things about the drama was the character of Shangguan Qiu Yue. He was not perfect and not bad or good just really trying to live in a world of hypocrites. He was fascinating to watch. I personally did not feel the chemistry between him and the FL lead, but others did. I really liked Fu Lou and You Si. In fact they were my favorite couple and the only time the show even made me a little sad. I would have rather they be the main story! I also liked 2 of the people hanging with the second male lead, Qin Liu Feng was fun and made the boring and too long scenes the them at least something to watch. I also really liked Feng Cai Cai, she showed the most growth and depth of any of the characters other than the male lead. I really did not understand why the character of Leng Ning was there or her purpose other than Qin Liu Feng had a crush on her and she dressed like a man carrying a sword, but then never did ANYTHING the entire time, plus there was nothing to like about her. As for Xiao Bai the second male lead. He didn't bother me as much as other people. He played the typical stoic hero who cannot show his feelings, but I thought the actor was fine since that is the character. I've seen much worse with the stoic person being portrayed.
Which brings me to female lead Chun Hua who was basically silly borderline stupid the entire time. I would rather Shangguan Qiu Yue end up with Xiao Bai! I find it interesting that even strong females are portrayed as needing to be saved by a man (Love and Redemption, Miss Truth) or just plan silly and annoying (Ashes of Love, Flames Daughter, etc, etc,) Plus every "romance" has silly misunderstandings and switching back and forth, Just one of the things that annoy me. I like shows almost based on the least annoying female character.
Rewatch not for me but if you do not mind the type of female character and the typical triangle then this is the drama for you. If you are looking for a strong and intelligent female lead and an interesting story, then skip this and watch something else.

The music for me is mixed. I absolutely love the song for the credits and the songs that play throughout the drama but I really don't like the main beginning OST. I just think if it's a Chinese historical drama then it needs music that fits with it and the OST is very upbeat and modern, basically pop. For a modern drama it would be fine but in my opinion this one just doesn't work for the type of drama.
Now as for the acting I thought that occasionally it was a bit rigid and expressionless but I don't think it was the actors, maybe it was just the way the characters were meant to feel since it was either a dramatic or sad scene. And I absolutely adore the main male lead both actor and character. If you want to find a drama where the male cast are somehow prettier than the female cast then this is the drama. I actually think all the main characters are pretty but I have never seen someone look quite so pretty and elegant in all my life like I did when I watched this and saw Li Hong Yi as Qiu Yue. Honestly it may just be me but thinking of both boys and girls, I am in awe of how beautiful he looks when playing this role. He is naturally quite a handsome and pretty man but he hit a whole new level just by adding a long, straight wig, a hair pin and a little bit of smokey sparkly eye shadow.
But anyway, to sum up I think this drama is on the whole stunning and I just can't get enough of Qui Yue so I certainly will be watching it again soon. I just find his character is so elegant, meticulous and actually quite sweet when he wants to be. I don't know how to explain it but if you watch it you'll know exactly what I mean.

I did feel that the story dragged a little at the beginning. Honestly, the production of this drama is lacking in certain aspect as well but it's mainly the romance that makes this drama worth it. The chemistry is not as reserved as most traditional chinese drama in my opinion which made it exciting to watch.

Not-so-brotherly love
Yes! Another time travel drama on Youku with (Master Devil) Li Hong Yi and Lusi Zhao (Untouchable Lovers, Oh My Emperor, Cinderella Chef), in short, three elements I can't resist.Synopsis
The story begins in the future. A girl is willing to trade her immortality for a romantic life. She’s sent back by the matrix of the universe to live in the body of a girl in the past. She’s foretold she will meet the love of her life the moment she opens her eyes. The girl from the future awakes as Chun Hua. Somehow she’s found beside a murdered healer, bystanders think she’s the culprit. Still dizzy she can’t see the first man she meets, but he seems to be a tall guy with long waving hair seen from the back as he’s deserting the place. The second man she clearly sees is Xiao Bai. He’s the good looking son of a martial arts master, and very angry. His father has been poisoned and now the guy who was supposed to cure his father has been killed. Chun Hua eagerly greets Xiao Bai as her future husband, but he suspects she’s a female spy. He decides to keep her close by his side to keep an eye on her. The girl pretends to have amnesia, because she hasn’t got the faintest idea who Chun Hua is. Her information gap is soon filled by the mysterious man with long waving hair who apparently comes to her aid. He turns out to be Qiu Yue, sworn enemy of Xiao Bai, a highly dangerous man, full of tricks. He introduces himself as her brother to take control over Chun Hua and Xiao Bai. What he can’t control is his not-so brotherly feeling for Chun Hua.
The Pros
It’s a joy to watch Lusi Zhao, she is such a versatile actress. I hated her as the antagonistic wife in Untouchable Lovers, I mistrusted her in Cinderella Chef. Her tone deaf singing in Oh My Emperor made me cry of laughter and now she plays such a cute, airhead girl that it is totally believable that every man wants to protect her. Both male leads are eye candy, the chemistry is on spot, and there’s also this tension about a yes or no- sister-brother connection.
The Cons
If you are into wuxia stories I guess you'll be disappointed. The storyline about the longevity nut has a meaning because of the love/immortality theme of the series, but it feels a bit forced and long-winded as well.
Nevertheless...if you like romance, tension and doubt between lovers, plus a mystery to be solved, this is for you.

Li Hongyi stole the show with his visuals and everything else was trash lol
I only watched this for Zhao Lusi and Li Hongyi and for me this was a disappointment.Zhao Lusi's character was very very flat. She didn't add anything to the series/story other than being the victim and the main problem. Tbh I don't think she had any major character growth at all. Which is disappointing but this is one of the earlier series for Zhao Lusi's career. I also hated how much her character went back and forth between them.
Li Hongyi was pretty great in his role and wow I was blown away by his beauty.
I still don't know how I feel about Xiao Bai tbh; like he was such a shitty character but I guess the writers were trying to go with that for the greater good or for you love kind of conflict.
And all the other characters were quite unsignificant and boring tbh.
Sadly, a disappointment.

Dubbed voice and WHAT???
I have a few issues with this series. First they dubbed chuan (zhaolusi ) voice. She already has a cute voice and then they made it sound like an annoying 6 year old ….And then ok so this is what I don’t get and spoiler yeah sorta
So she’s using a vr to go into this other world where she basically is mortal. Now is she in an Internet cafe… I mean when she dies is there a janitor that comes and takes your body?? But tech her body is still in her world right. So… you got an Internet cafe where they hire people to clean up dead bodies … right..
The story line was confusing and weird. Way too many side characters added in and out. The names are way too similar too. A lot of times I had to read recaps to realize who was whom.
Way too many useless episodes
I def don’t recommend this

The saving grace I have will be Li Hong Yi, the male lead. I only look forward to the scenes where he appear and seriously can just watch a show with just him! His acting is mesmerizing and his role as SGQY is perfect. I really wished to see more of him in historical/xianxia/wuxia shows.
I do think that this show has a lot of potential in it but sadly i had to fast forward a lot in order to enjoy it.
