Honestly the best bl drama I've seen.
I've watched so many, but this one stands out in so many ways. The acting and chemistry first of all is incredible, which makes the overall story more believable and more enjoyable. I sometimes find it hard to continue stories when the main characters are supposed to be in love but look stiff and forced with their skinship. The storyline does broach difficult topics in the beginning, but that's what makes it such an interesting and beautiful plot . The development of the characters is enjoyable to watch. Highly recommend.

This is seriously one of the best BL ever! Their chemistry is lit af! Their love is real af! I can watch this over and over again and not get tired! Techno's character is so funny! He's seriously one of my fave! Even though there's some parts of it that I hated (won't spoil) it still won't diminish my love for this drama! I am always laughing in this drama and screaming! I feel sorry for my fam who always hear me laughing and my neighbors if I got too loud from all the feels. I also feel sorry for my pillow because that's where I express my feelings and emotions lmao. Mew and Gulf are perfect for each other and no wonder this series is such a success. You can literally feel the emotions from the screen. This series is not over hyped or anything. It deserve the success they have. One thing you need to take note to remember is you need to be open minded if you want to watch it because the topic (won't spoil) is very sensitive. Watch it and you won't regret it!

My review is purely objective. TharnType is not-your-typical BL series out there. Although the setting is inside a university, this series is all about how love could help you conquer your psychological trauma. Type was sexually abused when he was a child and that explains why he "is" homophobic. *Yes, I would say even up to the end of the series, he is still homophobic.* However, after meeting Tharn, his trauma was eased. Fast forward, their love story developed.

What I love about this series is that it has direction. It talks about a sensitive topic that isn't usually seen on other BL series. However, it was mismanaged. There are scenes where I find inappropriate and not carefully thought off. You can change one's traumatic experiences through other good means, and not poking the same wound that burdens a person.

The series started out good yet problematic, improved in the middle *thanks to the actors impeccable acting*, but ended pretty bad. The last few episodes were very predictable and the antagonist was not convincing at all. To be honest, the finale was too bad it pained me to watch it. They could have explored a different way to end the series.

Anyway, take my reviews with a grain of salt. My opinions are not similar to yours, but we should still respect each other's perspectives. I heard that there will be a second season for this, and I'm up for it.

This might be the worst BL ever produced...

Not only is drama actually unbelievably homophobic, playing into heteronormative stereotypes and portraying gay people as inherently predatory unless they are basically just straight people who "happen to be gay just for this one particular guy," it also normalizes and makes light of themes such as rape, sexual assault, emotional and physical abuse, and gaslighting. Not to mention that the author of the original novel, who was also involved in the writing and production of this drama to the best of my knowledge, loves to fetishize the LGBTQ+ community while simultaneously exploiting them for shock value in her own works.

This drama was neither created by gay people nor was it created with gay people in mind. It is obviously catering to fujoshis/fundanshis who simply view queer people as material for their sexual fantasies and get off to the borderline pornographic sex scenes in this drama. It's absolutely sick how viewers enjoy and support this and its many sequels and spin-offs when it's so blatantly harmful to not only the LGBTQ+ community but also survivors of rape and abuse.

When I judge by the very low bar of Thai boys love dramas, this is one of the best I've seen and that's why I've rated it well. It's very well acted and filmed. The plot antics aren't nearly as cringe worthy as they could be. For once the lead couple actually has chemistry with each other as opposed to the many rookie actors, who's awkwardness at acting in intimate moments comes across on screen. Win and Gulf clearly got along well off screen, and this translated well once they were acting in character.

If I judge with a more critical eye from a western viewpoint, my main criticism of TharnType, a criticism I often have of Thai BL dramas in general, is the continued display of unhealthy and toxic relationships as romance. Tharn constantly ignores the physical boundaries set by Gulf who often tells him to stop. Gulf is verbally abusive, constantly in a loop of berating and gas-lighting Tharn, and then following up with weak apologies to smooth things back over. Tharn and Gulf's friend constantly make excuses for Gulf's aggressive and abusive behavior, but trauma or not, the last thing Gulf should have been given was a pass for his actions as he often crossed the line. Lots of characters were rooting for TharnType to stay/ get back together while completely ignoring that their relationship was full of red flags. But for a saving grace, TharnType did try to redeemed themselves by the end.

If u want to see a non controversial lighter sweeter realistic drama than dramas like sotus are best . But if u like fast paced dramatic storylines with beautifully complex characters and authentic acting this is it for u !! This was my first bl that I saw while it aired and it is a roller coaster ride !! It made me cry and laugh in the same episode . If u can forgive a few plot holes cause it is based on multiple books combined into 1 series so it's a little fast then u will love it . If u r into small gestures where every touch feels like an exploration of each other and not just an physical exploration but also an emotional one , then there is no other bl out there like this one . It's not just sexy scenes u get , but sensual scenes . It's a love story that realistically portrays a lustful start in a relationship but from ep 5 turns into something deeper and long lasting . So stay with it and u might love their journey from ep 5 . Pls watch on official links accessible from line tv Twitter with eng subs to rightfully appreciate the tharntype team from international fans :)

I watched this aware of all the problems that involved the story, sexual abuse, homophobia, and everything. And I actually know that It will be bad, but I watched bcs I was really curious: Why do people like this? Is it bcs of the NC scenes? Maybe their dynamics...? Just... Why?

And I didn't have an answer, bcs it's just plain BAD and problematic. First, Type is an asshole. It amazes me how he didn't show any progress during the series, he starts like a total bitch and it's a bitch until the end. Tharn is an abuser., nothing more to say.

Why do people like this so much? It doesn't make sense. It's boring, they never settle in their relationship bcs they are both stupid. Even the NC scenes are bad, Mew (Tharn) and Gulf (Type) don't have the chemistry that fans like to say that they have, pleasure it's the last thing that I think about while watching them.

It's fucking bad and I didn't even have the GUTS to watch until the end bcs I was so fucking bored and tired of such a bad series and a bad couple and bad everything.

It's and LGBT+ series made to straight people, that's it.

Ok. I was in a slump after I finished watching The Untamed and I didn't know what to watch after. I've seen so many BL's and almost BL's and I figured, why not I'll watch this. Boy, did I make the best decision of my life right there. I love this series, with all of my heart. Even when I caught up, I watched Love by Chance to understand the story better.

I gave the story a 9.5 because there are some parts in this series that I don't agree with, and that's my opinion, but overall I love this. The jokes are amazing, (especially in the latest episode). If you want something to easily fall in love with, watch this. The chemistry between Tharn and Type is just one of the many things that is good about this series.

Where to begin.... I liked it, that's be best place to start. The story touches on several subjects that are too often skimmed over which makes the plot a little fresher. The cast was top notch in terms of chemistry and I got most of the feels at the rights times. I think the writers lost to fanservice in some episodes but hey ho!
The plot/script:
I feel it could have delivered so much more than it did. The flashbacks that explained what had happened to Type are pretty self explanatory but there is virtually no mention of his thought process as his relationship with Tharn develops, Type's feelings about having feelings for a man and being in a physical relationship with one... So much emotional greatness missed! I have not had the chance to read the novel, (it's been dastardly difficult to find translations :/ if anyone knows where I could find one I'd love to read it) so I don't know if the book is better about it. Techno was sadly underused, he needed more screen time <3 and we still know virtually nothing about him. Also, there is an issue I was hoping would be resolved in the finale that wasn't: Type's childhood friend. I was expecting Type to have a heart to heart with him before the end, their interaction was pretty abrupt.
Overall, in my humble opinion, this series needed a little less fan service and more dedication to the truly important issues it is based on, namely trauma, homofobia, growth, guilt, forgiveness.
The Cast:
Chemistry off the charts and also, surprisingly, obvious improvement towards the end, Gulf looked rather constipated in the beginning but later on his expressions improved substantially, I'm looking forward to see more work from him. Mew is fab, we all knew that. And Mild needs a main role, yesterday.
I am mildly annoyed by the lack of substantial female characters in the whole of this universe though...
The music:
imma skim on this one, I'm not a music connoisseur so all I'm gonna say is that it fits the mood, I'm happy.
Direction/cinematography: a bit choppy in places, seen worse, could have been better.
Overall an enjoyable watch, it's firmly in my list of will watch again, ad nauseam, even if it missed the opportunity to be great.

Don't judge a book by it's cover

I started watching BL series recently. There r indeed so many diff story & plots. Acting is gd in all series but in this it's MIND BLOWING. I really love their chemistry & acting. Even supporting characters r very gd. Techno's comedy is in diff level. I can't stop laughing whenever he appears on screen. Just watch it if u r k with steamy (not so) scenes. U can feel the love between those two.
Some r dropping this series bcoz of scenes n first few ep but u can understand it later. Tharn felt guilty for his actions even after years of their relationship. He did those things coz he's angry with type making bad comments abt his gender. He backed off after hearing type's past. Bathroom scene is bcoz he knew type also feels smethng towards him so did that which is again not right but he's the one who stand & helped type to come out of his fear which type declared in special episode. Here type is may b a bi/gay but he hate gays to a point where he won't even feel any attraction towards guys & even if he felt he'll be disgusted by that thought so he always THOUGHT he's straight. Tharn is openly gay so this is the only series where we don't have "I'M NOT GAY BUT I LIKE HIM" or "I DON'T KNOW I'M GAY TILL I MET YOU". It's all open. No side couple as it mainly focuses on Main couple. Tharn & Type both have problematic pasts & they'll come through it together. It's #1 for me.

First, as stated in a headline, if you searching for your 1st BL series, TharnType the Series (TTS) is not yours. Really, you will feel uncomfortable especially for several early episodes. I'm start in 2017 with 2 Moons The Series, then step up with Love by Chance (LBC) 2018 and in between, several Thais, Taiwanese and Chinese series. Still, when watch TTS, early episodes just harsh and make me feel so heavy. But, it will be better when you keep progress. TTS is 'spicy' but 'colourful' series, just if you used for something mild only, this is not something you should watch. Do not expect just lovey-dovey or light conflicts here.
Chemistry between characters is the strongest point of this series. When I'm enjoying watching my previous series, I didn't understand why some keep says that the chemistry between characters is lack. Not easy to define but TTS will show clearly to every viewers, what chemistry it is. Every eye contact, expression of feelings, or even kissing or something equivalent are really well executed, just like they are real.
For weakest point, I think about fast paced timeline. Without explanation from here, IG and Twitter, it's hard to understand. Sometimes, just think that the next scene just happen immediately after previous scene or just next day, but actually it happen after several days or weeks. Just feel so sudden. Really need for extra information to understand better. But, this also can be good as the storyline keep fast, so no stagnation in storytelling that can make viewers feel boring.
As conclusion, TTS is really good series if you seek something balance from every aspect.

Worth the chance!

I watched the series years ago when season two wasn't yet out and recently I decided to rewatch the series starting from episode one of season one continuing till the end of season two.

Both seasons were pretty satisfying. There isn't many BL series so in comparison "TharnType" is worth to watch even thought the plot is lacking a lot.

Earlier mentioned plot isn't bad. It actually is pretty good, except the series is focusing on the two main characters relationships with little to no plot. Not saying there is none, because there is plot but Tharn and Type's relationship overweight the plot.

A minus from me would be ignorance towards rape and pedophilia. The victim of pedophilia who happen to be the main character although received basic "acknowledge" he wasn't fully acknowledged by others as a victim. People expected him to be fine, to move on from his trauma and not be homophobic "just because a man raped him as a child". On the other hand, the side character, victim of rape experienced trauma that was addressed but not healed, because the one who committed the crime was not punished even thought people knew what he did! This was a very disgusting part in the series and the only thing that kept me watching was the fact this happen in the past between the side characters.

A plus would be the part where LGBTQ people were portrayed as equally as phobic and hateful on other sexes as stereotypically homophobes are.

Season two was a big change and is very different from season one, yet it somehow more satisfying than season one.
