a missed target

a young woman return to her parental village after a professional issue. there she manage to de-tangle all the relationships she had when she was young.

that's a difficult review. the drama had everything in the beginning, but for one reason or an other I kept lowering the ranking till 5/10. I love the actors, the 2 ML are one of my favorites. the casting is ok, the acting too, the story is fine too, some people had hard time with the slow pace but I didn't. it's very slow though, for you to know. I think that my biggest issue is the disappointing ending. actually not only in the end, but all the time, everything is half-done. and I really can't stand that. you love someone or you don't, you apologize or you don't, you forgive or you don't, you stop a relationship or you don't. but in this drama, everybody seems to live half-way. and that's very frustrating for me. so I didn't like it and ended up disappointed. romanticism or poetry don't cover the cowardliness of the characters.

when to watch? if you like lukewarm situations, be my guest.

This is a perfect drama for book-lovers not just because of the characters but the vibe it has. It is so similar when you are reading a book in a sense that you could contemplate on the emotions and attitudes of each character like you really are the one living it The OST will give you chills and the way they used subtle sounds and even quietness on the drama could really make the viewers savor the scenes. It is not the typical drama you could watch everyday with a lot of plot twists and grandiosity. It is so simple yet heart warming I hope you could enjoy it as much as we do.

Actually kind of depressing

It's been a while since I wrote a review, but I have too much to say for a comment. I'm going to try to not sound too negative, because this drama is good, but it was far too depressing for me. I like slow burns, and I can handle some angst, but this drama felt like I was drowning. And I was only able to feel afloat because of a few characters. I almost couldn't breathe by the end of the 15th episode, so I had to take a break and watch something else for a bit before I could continue. I had to do that several times between episodes as I watched the series.
The story itself is fine. I love dramas that are set in a small town, so I was excited to start this one. And to the drama's credit, the residents of the village are a joy to watch and really helped keep me going. I was really invested in Im Hwi's teenage troubles and was rooting for her. The truth about what happened in Hae Wan's family was fascinating to discover, but the tension from it contributed to the depressing atmosphere.
The is the slowest burn in a drama I've ever seen, and honestly, I'm not really sure it satisfied in the end after the absolute drain of the previous episode. When the main couple were happy, it felt like their was life in the drama, but as soon as a bombshell hit, it was back to tense silence. Also not a fan of her actions in the final two episodes.
I'm really happy for Jinu and Eunsil and loved their cute interactions.
All this to say, I still love the actors. I've seen them in other works and know they have more range, so this is not on them.
Oh, music is amazing! Check out the soundtrack when you can!

warmness in the cold winter

i'm pretty sure everyone is aware that this drama is slow-paced but it is definitely not in the painful & boring way (at least to me) . i felt warmness during the main lead's scenes. i'm not sure how to put it in words but they just felt Warm but in a sad way. maybe I feel like this because of how much minyoung overused this word lol but its true ! i don't really vibe with slice of life dramas but this one was pretty good. the story between her mother & aunt was so... Whew.. but it got draggy at a point. I feel like a lot of issues could've been resolved earlier but they just dragged it to the end. could've cut out the staring scenes.

it was rare to see a moment between the main leads where they are just _enjoying_ themselves and they dont smile and laugh a lot.. nor go on dates.. very melo and sad they both are.. anyways enough about them we're moving on to JANGWOO and EUNSIL my god they are the highlight of this drama to me . jangwoo's character is so lovable i love him so much not bc im jaewook biased obvi but omg he gets shy and stutters whenever hes around eunsil and blushes a lot .. and eunsil teasing him .. i wish they showed us more of them idrc if they overpowered the main couple bc theyre both genuinely interesting characters that i would like to see more of but :| it was cut short.

overall its not a bad drama nor its something id recommend to everyone. its quite enjoyable but gets a little too much at times despite being slow paced. theres a few unecessary scenes here and there but yea overall it was okay and the side characters existence def light up this drama.

Just falling deep into a story

The lovely portatraial of countryside. The story filled with emotion and depth. Some scenerioes are realistic some are imaginary but it all conveys it's message properly. It's a slow slice of life, some psychological real life stuff too, I am drawn to the story and characters even though it's a slow drama, beware. Genuine love story and genuine story of healing and growth. Well it might not suite the taste of teenagers or some others but for me personally as I have lived through that shy, introvert experience, I can say like it. Music is so soothing and the vibe and cinematography is on point. Some things can be done other way but it's just personal what fits one person might not suite other so no drama can be all perfect. But it was my first slow drama and I have to say it was awesome for me.

The comfort you need

When The Weather Is Fine like the title is so completely beautiful, peaceful and comforting. Warm like a hug on a winters day. This drama makes me want to pack up my bags move to the cold country side and find a short romance with a stranger. I really truly love this drama and wish that you do too. This is a drama you watch during the freezing winter with a warm cup of tea.

With a wonderful and striking performance from Park Min-young. Seo Kang-joon is a dreamy as ever <3 side characters are extremely charming and make this little moments so wonderful!!

I honestly was not sure what to expect but I went ahead and decided to watch it. My initial reaction was that the series was very slow pace but you can honestly tell that the directors put a lot of thought into the composition of it as well as the storyline. I felt that the beginning of the series was somewhat confusing because they were showing clips of their past, then they were showing events that happened earlier or events that were going to happen before they happen. So for me that was a bit confusing. It mostly happened in the beginning of the series but by the middle to end of the series you’ll notice that the confusion somewhere kind of dies down a little bit. I think overall the series was very very heartfelt. It showed the effects of different things that happened in these individuals lives as they were growing up and how these things that happen in their past affected their present whether that’s relationships with their family or relationships in general. I think that for some people this is a mega tear jerker.

I somewhat prefer the ending of the series versus the beginning. In truth I was going to start watching it but I’m glad I kept going because it really showed how everything is not as it seemed but it also show true honest and raw emotions. There was no make-believe band is that made everything OK and we’re friends again things that took place in this. The people we have real feelings and they were genuine about it which is more closely related to how normal people will deal with rejection or betrayal. So I really enjoyed that about this I feel that it closely reflected human nature and feelings. No magic ones took place here. So if you’re into a slow pace, bit of a tearjerker and heartfelt drama with a little romance you may like this. Again this is really not an overly romantic series although you will get a little romance in here but this is more about past pain and healing.

I'm aware many people won't like this drama because it's slow, but it you don't mind slow paced dramas then you should definitely watch this one.

How do I express this feeling I have right now? I just finished the last episode and I know for sure I'm going to miss this drama a lot. The sceneries are so beautiful, the filming, everything! But if there's something even more beautiful that stands out, it's the story and how it's told.

For me, even though Hae Won and Eun Seob are tagged as the ''main leads'', every character in this drama are leads. You get to know their story, they grow in you in a way I'd never experienced before; even the old women that are always gossiping. It's just amazing.

There are scenes that made me cry of happiness. They just warm you up on the inside.
This drama... I just don't have words to explain what it has made me feel. It's deep, really deep, and I loved that; however, there are characters like Eun Soeb's sister (Im Hui) or Jang Wu that really lighten the mood a little bit and they're so funny and loveable!

If you're hesitating to watch this drama, just go and watch at least 2 episodes and then decide whether to watch it or not. I'd recommend 100%, but as I said in the beginning, if you don't usually like slow paced dramas this may not be for you. It being slow paced doesn't make it a bad drama, though, and I'd say it definitely deserves a try.

This is the only drama I repeated watching immediately after finishing the whole series.
I first chose this drama because of Park Min Young & Seo Kang Joon. PMY first attracted me in Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Since, I have watched most of her dramas. SKJ was so adorable in the Cunning Single Lady. After feeling disappointed by the drama ‘The Third Charm’, I was really excited to find him as the male lead actor in When Weather is Fine.
In fact, the first episode was too slow for me. If it were not PMY & SKJ, I would have given up (I had even hanged on to The Third Charm for 4 episodes before letting go). Interestingly, as the story unfolded, I found myself deeply attracted to the screenplay, production and acting. In addition, the OSTs are so beautiful. I later delightedly learned that all singers/artists are my favourites.
Initially, I had stopped when each episode ended and missed the Bookstore Diary (may be called something else as I watched this drama in another language) that followed. This note further expressed the thoughts in the mind of Im Eun Sub and helped to understand why he acted in certain ways.
Both have played the characters so well; PMY displayed her anger and frustration quickly while SKJ was reserved with intense eye expression.
The whole production team is commendable. The Director, Screenwriter, music composers and, of course, the cast should be given awards in 2020.
It is ashamed that the viewer ratings were low in Korea.

i gave this show a solid 10 just for the way it make my heart feel at ease every piece was but in its right place perfectly
when the weather is fine, is different from any kdrama I've ever watched, usually the drama that have the geners melodrama in it almost have the same aspect and the same characters development in it this one isn't , it shows that how much it is good to have someone you can lean on, and it shows how can time solve your problem eventually.
its a slow paced show, but that's what makes this show perfect.
Note: no intense moment in it, it was just a show that connect pieces together in the smoothest way possible

Should you watch it? — yes

I just love Park Min Young acting skills. So I wanted to watch this drama just for that reason. She played a very different character as compared to “what is wrong with secretary kim”. I just think she is an amazing actor.

I gave this drama lowrating because watching this drama seem like “watching the grass grow”. The storyline itself was OK and really didn’t have an emotional component to it.That may seemLike a contradictory statement since this drama dealt with physical abuse mental abuse and self torture as reflected by the aunt and the mother.

What I didn’t get about the storytelling was why would the main female lead fall for a guy who seemed to be totally disconnected and didn’t seem to show any interest in her. I am surprised that mok hae won(MKH) continued to talk to ML after confessing.

A good and powerful story is when the FL and ML transform with the support and love for each other. In this story, I did not see much of transform in IM Eun Sub. It seemed to me that if mkh never came back, he would have been just fine.

So in retrospect, I think the whole story is not about love, but something else. Is it about finding happiness by living simply and enjoying book clubs, and no television? It didn’t seem like the script writers dealt with physical abuse. It was in the background and our main characters simply learnt to live with it. In fact I was very much surprised that MKH, even chastised her aunt when she discovered the truth.

It is funny.. the more I write this review, the angrier I get. The more I think about it, I would hate to be in a relationship with MKH... she can’t forgive easily, isolates those who love her. Only thing she has going for her is her beauty. It was telling when she made a statement “I always have been pretty”.

I am glad I watched this drama. There were lessons for me as to how NOT to be in life to find happiness.

Conclusion:
Watching this drama was like watching the grass grow.
Infuriating due to lack of main characters depth.
Positives: community spirit

Most of all, it's calm

I'm writing a review exclusively because I can't get over the fact that a partner (or any other person) reading a private diary is framed as cute. It's not cute, it's a violation of privacy. Being someone's partner doesn't give you the right to their privacy.

Other than that it was a drama that transmitted a lot of calm despite all the traumatic events it dealt with.

The supporting cast was excellent and without them, this drama would be reduced to almost nothing since I don't find the main characters remarkable or important enough to the action. To me, it would make more sense if the drama was set from the aunt's point of view.

There are some things in life that can never be amended. Not even time can do that. Time can't amend treason or violence. I don't understand the love for a physically abusive parent and it doesn't make a difference who stepped on the gas pedal. It was self-defence from someone who was threatening their lives and had already made their lives miserable for so many years. I do see a reason for the aunt's actions, she was hit too and her sister's and her life were in danger. It's very logical to me. Even if the lead's father had never hit the aunt, she had every right to protect her sister. Her sister's bruises hurt her as well, it's surprising to see that the mother's bruises didn't hurt the daughter. Her loving father is the same person that tried to kill her mother and her aunt and that's not something you can separate from that person, it's the same father.
