Make sure your lens is set to fantasy mode

There is not my much along story and music and scripting to praise in this show. But somehow it manages to take you along for the silly ride. The sum of the parts is way better than the parts themselves.

So keep in mind that it is not rooted in reality and you are all set.

Skip the silly parts and spend some time on the parts that try to convey some life lessons and other tidbits. Watch the end for the fortune cookie monuments.

The show manages to showcase some level of female empowerment and the ML is a different kind of cold CEO. It is formulaic romcom material.

2nd ML lead syndrome alert (Sui An is a great character)
Pleasing colour palettes and sets.
Good looking cast

If you just accept that anything goes in drama land you can relax and kill time with a perfectly forgettable show.

TR;DR: If you get annoyed but ridiculousness that only happens in tv shows and not irl, don't watch. However, if you can overlook it for some cuteness and squeal happy moments, WATCH IT!

Not gonna lie, there were parts where the logic just made ZERO sense. HOWEVER, overall, it was still really very cute. I enjoyed the three couples that ended up forming, the redemption arcs for one of the side characters, and of course all the really cute scenes.

It felt a bit draggy in the middle, but slowly regained momentum and started being interesting again. Overall, the flashbacks and little reveals throughout kept the plot going. All the side characters added bits of comical relief as well as increased my enjoyment.

Hilarious and unpredictable comedy

This was an amazing watch as a follow up to "My Youth" (a completely different drama featuring the same male and female leads). You'll see completely different sides of the two actors, given the wildly unrealistic and over-exaggerated funny moments here (vs. the cheery coming-of-age feel of My Youth). Plus the female lead's psychiatric disorder has multiple personalities, so it's fun seeing her act out all of those scenarios too.

What I loved most about the plot is that while there are many "jealous female characters trying to ruin the female lead and her relationship with the male lead," the scriptwriter tries to put a different spin to the scenario and the result is always unpredictable, funny, and exhilarating if you're rooting for the female lead. The bad characters get what they deserve in the most unexpected ways. There are also a lot of times when the situation gets really cringey and then a character says exactly what us audience members want to say about a villain character or a drama trope situation. The scriptwriter is real meta.

Side note: there are 3 separate couples in this drama and all are cute in their own way!!! No stupid love triangles YES
Side note 2: I'm not a fan of the last "2030" arc but it did bring an ok wrap up for the drama. Everything before it though? Amazing.

If you require that all your dramas be logically correct and maturely handled, this would not be it. However, if you're willing to forgive the fact that that psychiatric disorder the female lead has is very questionable, and that the drama's sense of humor thrives from its illogical and wild plot development, then you'll love this drama. If you read Chinese and have access to streaming sites with those comments flying by on top of the window, you'll enjoy it even more -- The Chinese netizens' funny comments definitely improved my viewing experience.

My Girl is a nice romantic comedy within a business setting. The split personality concept was well played by the leading actress and every time she had a split episode, it was a way to introduce either conflict or resolution into the leading couple’s progression. Although there are some dramatic moments, the drama is lighthearted and the friendships around the leading couple are also nice to watch as they interact with each other and eventually fall in love. There is a good chemistry between the lead couple and their romantic interactions are well done and believable. The friendship between the male lead Shen Yi and his confidant Sui An is nicely developed and great to watch. Overall, even if the drama is not perfect, it is very entertaining. Enjoy it!

Do yourself a favour and don’t waste any time on this.

Alright so the only reason I forced myself through this is because this only has two(?) negative reviews on here. My guess is that most people dropped this after two episodes and didn’t see the need to write anything.

I’ll start with the positive (that made me not give it one star) since this will be the fastest to write.
I really like the actor that played the main lead, not sure if he was a good choice for this part since his character was just stupid, but the actor himself did a good job at portraying a bad role.
The main reason I’ve added 1.5 stars to my rating are the side couples or side characters in general. I honestly liked their stories and their characters, sadly they alone are not worth forcing yourself through this mess. They could have made a Drama out of them and their stories, I’d have probably enjoyed watching that. There we’re some kind of entertaining scenes, but that doesn’t make up for 24 Episodes of terrible screenwriting.

Now the negative:
Let’s start with the female lead. I know that the actress chosen is capable of acting, she did quite good in Meteor Garden. However in this drama I did not vibe with her at all.
Theoretically her character should have been the most interesting. However to me she was just boring, the switch in her characters was extremely inconsistent, she did alright portraying her first alter ego, afterwards the lines between her normal self and her different identities just got really blurry. I also did not feel any chemistry with the male lead on her part. This and most of my problems with her are probably not entirely the actresses fault and more due to the bad screen writing I guess. Which is why I’ll elaborate further in the next section.

The plot: First of all, the description of this Drama on here contains major spoilers (not the Drama’s fault obviously but a MDL problem). So if you’ve not read the description yet but plan to watch don’t read it, it’ll kill the little suspense the Drama actually built.
I did not read the description before starting, but the first Episode kind of intrigued me, it was done quite entertaining, the female lead and her condition seemed interesting, and it wasn’t as full of BS about dissociative identity disorder/PTS as other Dramas I’ve seen.
However all of this quickly went down hill at around the second or third Episode.

First of all the Female Leads condition got weirder and weirder with every Episode. At least her switch in characters wasn’t as dramatic as in other Dramas. Still I do not get why you have to portray a switch in character by making it look like the character is turning into the hulk. Especially since in the beginning her characters where quite distinct so it would have been enough to just show the change in posture and expression.

Now they said in the beginning that her alter egos mostly come out in very emotional situations etc (which is the case for a lot of DID patients) because they mostly start existing to protect the Person from seemingly dangerous situations. This was all fine however, they seemed to distance themselves further and further from this rather accurate portrayal of mental illness. There is no logical explanation as to why her alter ego should leave her in the moments she needs it most. Then they just start giving her random personalities, Creating new ones whenever necessary, none of them ever return. And lastly turning them into some kind of quest the other characters have to master. I mean if they wanted to give her some kind of non-existing disease, they should have not used an existing condition and turned it into something so absurd, to me it just seemed really tasteless, getting worse and worse every episode, and lastly being “cured” by the most stupid thing.

The main problem I had with the main couple was that they just seemed really forced and uncomfortable the entire time. There was no moment I could truly enjoy them together or wish them happiness.
Starting from the weird development of the female Leads feeling, or let’s say the absence of it. Most of the time she wasn’t even herself, still somehow the feelings for the ML we’re just there all of a sudden.

Now their relationship in general: this was just painful honestly since there was always one big hurdle right in between the two of them that was never really dissolved. Which to me made it absolutely impossible to enjoy the few moments that could have actually been kind of cute. Everything just seemed fake, forced and awkward. Every reason for the characters making a choice or doing something was just plain stupid.
The way they treated the female lead when she was “not herself” was also just plain stupid and lacked any sense of logic.

I also had to ask myself a couple of times how the ML’s Company hasn’t gone bankrupt yet. Him handling his work was really just painful to watch.
Basically everything about the two leads and their relationship was just Bad.

While the ML at least had some kind of goal and we got to know some things about him, the FL didn’t really have anything to her except for her condition. No apparent goals or a clear character.
While the ML did have a character that was a little more thought through, he was still 100% frustrating and stupid in almost his every action. Most of the time he didn’t even think for himself and rather listened to other people’s opinions, and when he did think for himself his choices were everything but rational.

The OST was honestly just as weird as the rest. There was basically one song that was just repeated over and over no matter the situation.

In the end I really can’t say what kind of story this Drama wanted to tell? Maybe that beauty is everything and that if you’re not pretty you’ve basically lost in life? ‘Love’ is the ultimate goal no matter at what cost?
Idk this is the only lesson that I could draw from this mess of a story.
This was honestly just an absolute random mess and sadly not even in a funny or entertaining way.

Do yourself a favour and don’t watch it.

Cute

There are no gigantic spoilers but maybe a few if you don't want absolutely anything to be known before watching it... but I don't know if you'd be reading this to begin with then....

I like the fact that it revolved around the make up industry. There's some other shows that also do this that I like, like Face-Off.

The plot is cute, not very surprising or anything new. I like how it approached the topic of scars in Chinese culture. I've known about this taboo but it is the first time I've really seen it in a drama, especially with it being such an important part of the story line. So, that was really interesting to see the back story about it an dhow it effected her and her family.

Characters:
to be honest, the main characters are not my favorite, they just seem kind of flat. However, I love the side characters, the two best female friends, especially the one that was a former competitor. I really liked watching her character development. I also liked the relationship development with the plastic surgeon/male lead's best best friend.

The love triangle felt annoying and like it took too long to clear up. It just started to feel repetitive. Love triangles seem like they are mandatory in C-dramas now-a-days and I think I am just worn out with them since its such a repetitive plot point. It's not this dramas fault though, it's just something the majority of dramas do.

Overall, the character web was probably one of the best parts. It's very cute and the main relationship has ups and downs but it was fun to watch.

How Do You PROVE You Love Someone?

First, I can absolutely understand why this show would not be a favorite, or even liked by some people. It does require it's own form of alternate universe rules that end up being a common issue with any show dealing with mental health in China. Because of this there are quite a few negatives that some people will not be able to look past and I can respectfully understand this.

For instance, the oversimplification of saying Meng Hui has PTSD and not really mentioning anything about DID (or even an outdated MPD) can give people the wrong idea about what her issues actually are. However, I can honestly overlook this pretty easily as the DID is a symptom of the PTSD where she dissociates to the extreme.

Next people would bring up that the characters in the show ALL bend over backwards to give in to her delusions even having her run the ML's company despite having no actual knowledge of how to do this. Yes, this makes for a bit of an eye-roll but at the same time the STORY explains in a way why THEY choose to do this. People point out that it is stupid and the ML does not care. There are indeed people like this in real life. Is it illogical by "most" standards, yes; but it's still within the realm of possibility for people to like a person so much and want them to get better so much that they will go along with these plots.

As for the story itself, there are small little mottos/morals that often relate to the show themes and make-up at the end of each episode. I loved these as they were often very good words of wisdom. For instance, one of my favorites was Ep 17's "If the foundation isn't laid down well, any attempt at repair will only be a facade to cover it up."

Shen Yi / Meng Hui - Our main characters, these two are the most "obviously" broken to the outside world. Our ML is rich, has a rich father, and yet the first time he and FL meet on a bus he quibbles over $0.20 because swiping a bus card is $1.80 but paying cash is $2.00 so he will only reimburse her the $1.80. He starts out miserly to an absurd degree but this is good in a way that it allows the viewers a chance to see his character growth over the course of the show with how Meng Hui changes him for the better. Meanwhile, our FL is honestly a Mary Sue with a "flaw". Even the show admits this though as there is a conversation the couple have at one point where she talks about there being no such thing as a 100% perfect girl, so she was given the scar as a way to remove that 1% and make her a 99% girl. Their obstacles are her scar and the past. Questions about guilt vs love, taking responsibility for ones actions, saying you forgive someone vs ACTUALLY forgiving someone, fears of future resentment, being a burden to the other party, communication break-down and secrets.

The other characters in the story are also flawed and each has a small story so even if the main couple isn't the most attractive for you, there might be interest still in finding out about Jiang Jiang/ Ah Tao, Sui An/ Wei Lei , or you "might" even count ML Dad/step-mom as a very minor side-story couple.

Shen Yi / Sui An (bromance) - If you want a show with good bromance on a deep friendship level, the bond between Shen Yi and Sui An will ABSOLUTELY do it for you. Without giving away spoilers, there is a crying scene with these two in it near the end that will tear your heart out if you have been enjoying their relationship throughout the show. If anything could be a negative, I wish the spent even five more minutes on their relationship to give it that final polish of depth regarding their past, but easily 9.5/10 as is.

Jiang Jiang / Ah Tao - ML's assistant and FL's friend/therapist this is a sM/DF storyline. He is a wet puppy who was bullied in school and has a "servant's personality", while she exudes confidence and was the "Prince" of her school. They have the least amount of psychological issues to overcome which makes their relationship by far the easiest to watch. Their major obstacles are being on "opposing" sides at times and his feeling of inferiority towards her.

Sui An / Wei Lei - ML's best friend "since college" and ML's ex/FL's Best Friend ("very" minor spoiler) start out as a doctor/patient relationship. He is a plastic surgeon and she uses this to her advantage when she determines she likes him as she likes getting treatments. These two have honestly one of the worst relationships but who need the most out of their being together. Without giving spoilers, their issues have to do with inferiority, one person using the other, being worthy of love, guilt and a feeling of responsibility vs love, and the biggest one is probably the inability to let the other person into their head (they are a show-er not a tell-er and don't explain themselves)

All in all, this show went over a LOT for "only" having 24 episodes. Things that I personally was left still unclear on at the end were mostly past issues with the ML/ML mom/ ML dad, and weird editing with the original childhood timeline which had me questioning 1. how he didn't know her name, and 2. how long they had been talking to each other before the "incident" (this is mostly due to the scenes with she sitting down to lunch, asking mom for backpack, getting the backpack). These are all VERY minor issues for me though as they take up almost no actual time within the show, but they do seem to be plot holes.

Story: in my opinion on of the fresher romantic drama out-there. The summary pretty much sums it up ... Female lead has a scar from her youth that was caused by the male lead by accident. He lives in remorse and wants to find her. She lives in painful memories and has an dissociative/ changes personality whenever she gets has negative thoughts. The male lead is the ceo of a beauty company. He wants to find a concealer/formula that would completely conceal scars. The female lead is a makeup artist . They meet through a competition and slowly fall in love. btw The male lead is the most cheap / frugal ceo i've seen lol , he lives like a hidden millionaire.

He initially falls in love with her because he thinks she was the one one that was hurt by him when he was young. His love for the female lead was kind of out of remorse and guilt and he wanted to take care of her.

The drama's interesting point comes up when the female lead gets dissociative/manic... she becomes a whole different person and takes on that person's identity. She basically turns into different characters because of her interaction between the male lead. (most triggered by negative things that the male lead has done) I don't want to spoil too much

What annoyed me was when he supposedly found out the female lead wasn't the girl her hurt, he completely turned 360 which resulted in her dissociative/manic episode. Another annoying character that i want to punch is the female assistant of the makeup company. ( doing too much to try to ruin the female and male lead's relationship)

Right before the ending I wanted to drop the score down to a 8.5 because towards the story was kinda getting draggy, but the last couple episodes made up for that..

Overall I liked it :)

At first i felt it wasn't worth watching but the second main lead couple made me fall in love with them ❤
The friendship between SHEN YI & SUI AN made me love this drama more😍
Everyone needs a friend like SUI AN, WEI LEI, AH TAO & JIANG JIANG 🤎
Everyone were best in there characters ☺
The office staff was the best of all 💗
It's full of comedy, love, respect & most importantly understanding your partners & helping them out with their problems ❤
All in all a perfect drama for the perfect beginning. This c-drama is sooo nice, beautiful, thoughtful, caring, responsibility a amazing story... I watch all episodes and loved sooo much... As I am Indian but I loved the series of My Girl sooo much... I saw first time the chinese drama and liked very much that how Shen Yi took care of Meng Hui and also how outside beauty does not matter how person is but the inside beauty depends more... And I recommend you all to see this c-drama... That how gets everytime attacks and Shen Yi always take care of her and never leave her alone... And all this c-drama cast is so nice..lots of love to all actors of this My Girl drama❤️❤️ And last don't judge people by their face who are having scars on there face but see their inside heart that how they are beautiful...And Zhou Yi is sooo handsome mam...And personality also pls all see this My Girl all series... These will be an all-time favorite for me Chinese drama! Its a love story between three cute couples. First the main couple Shen Yi and Meng Hui, Shen Yi is the CEO of LS ( a huge cosmetic company) and Meng Hui is a make-up artist of the production team of reality of whose Shen Yi was a judge. Meng Hui had a stress disorder called PSTD (which you'll see triggering a lot of times and its very funny at times) which changes her personality and somehow she starts dating Shen Yi. Now the second couple, Jiang Jiang and Ah Tao, Jiang Jiang is assistant of Shen Yi and Ah Tao is the best friend/ psychologist of Meng Hui, they fall in love too! Now the third couple, Dr. Sui An and Wei Li , Sui An is the best friend of Shen Yi since childhood, and Wei Lie is the ex-girlfriend of Shen Yi (who later becomes the best friend of Meng Hui too). They both fall in love too, which was unexpected at the beginning. And later after many ups and downs all of them end up together happily❤️❤️❤️❤️💕 It's Binge-worthy!! I know you will love it! I did!

Surprising

I was really surprised by this drama because I decided to watch it when I had nothing to do and was bored but then what really fascinated me was Menghui you know people say that a person can change somebody and through watching this it has been really verified because before they met Shen Yi was very stingy but when it came to making the make up for scar covering he was ready to pay a lot which shows how guilty he felt about what he did before. When Menghui walked into Shen Yi life you could pretty tell they were going to go through hell especially with Menghui condition . though Shen Yi might not be an ideal boyfriend material but he was surely the missing piece to Menghui because a relationship is built on a lot of things and you know opposites is one of them and let me tell you something the way they both compliment each other shows how they were meant to be . In summary if you are looking for A romantic comedy filled with also some tears and lessons then i'll recommend My Girl

Not much of a cliche

Honestly. when I first read the summary, I thought the story would be a okay-ish but drama might be cliche because the FL has dissociative identity disorder. So, I thought maybe the directors won't be able to clearly portray both the personalities of Meng Hui and may fail to clarify when which personality appears. Surprisingly, the drama did not face this problem.

Story: There are a lot of c-dramas out there on 'dissociative personality disorder' but this one is different. The story is not only about true love but also fighting the curves life throws at you and accepting your past and regrets.
All the couples had a cute and funny love story. Funniest part was that this bossy and cold CEO, though crazy rich, is a miser. This adds spice and uniqueness to the story. The drama at points gets damn serious but then in five minutes, your stomach is aching due to laughing too much.

Direction: Director Zhong Qing definitely delivered his best. As mentioned earlier, the summary may seem a mess but the drama is not. Director clearly knew when to reveal which part of the lead roles' past. However, they forgot to mention why Shen Yi's parents separated.

Acting: Both the main leads did a great job expressing their emotions. Though Zhao Yi Qin portrays a bossy CEO, he can easily transform to a lover boy desperate to keep up with his girlfriend's emotions and the other personality. Li Jia Qi also did well in acting both timid and strong, unforgiving and accepting. Supporting characters too created an aura with their acting.

OST: Honestly, the OST was just average.

Conclusion: This is a good drama to watch if you want to experience intense but rapidly changing emotions.

One amazing drama. Period.

This drama was so amazing and unique in its own ways...the modern twist was this drama was awesome..the twists in this drama will keep you at the edge of the seat no kidding...the male lead is perfect..the female lead and her strong character is one if the highlights of the show....even tho she is timid when she gets her PTSD she turns into confident personalities and the way she perseveres is amazing...the scar, its mysteries and the angle of love is wonderful...also the other two main lead couples are given the perfect importance not more not less...even their love stories are pretty amazing...this drama showcases perfect comedy, romance, drama, mystery and most importantly friendship. Friendship is one of the key elements of this drama. The story is new and it is one of the dramas without a triangle love story. The female lead's changing personalities have their own traits which make the drama even more interesting....totally recommend this drama...it will make you fall in love with all the characters and the warmth in the story will keep you happy while the drama and twists will keep you at the edge of the seat.
