With Zi Jin’s guidance, Zi Ping is able to make dishes that appeal to Empress Shan Xiang. The Empress believes that Zi Jin is taking pity on her, but Zi Jin convinces her otherwise and that she must learn to live well despite her circumstances. Zhan Ji takes a trip to the countryside to see how the people work to survive. He later discovers a scheme by the Directorate of Eunuchs that hurts the people, so he questions Yuan Qi.
