Tongui-dong in Seoul, 1950. Dr. Bong Mu Ryong, a doctor of eastern medicine whose family has been practicing medicine for 5 generations, is devastated when his first child in 20 years is on the verge of death. His mother decides to find another baby that'll stop the evil spirits. Sa Gi Jin, a salesman at the clinic, spends a night with Bong Chul's wife, Mak Rye. She suddenly appears in front of Gi Jin with the baby she has given birth to. Meanwhile, Dr. Bong and his family seek refuge when the Korean War breaks out but soldiers come looking for Dr. Bong.
