Xi Ruo returns to Hong Bin his mother’s bracelet. She can’t accept it when their relationship is fake. Xi Ruo claims that she doesn’t know how to play mahjong when asked to do so by Hong Bin’s parents and uncle. But she goes on to win all their money. Hong Bin’s third uncle, Jing You, turns up. Xi Ruo also defeats him when challenged. Jing You accuses Xi Rou of lying about her nobility as upper class girls don’t play the game. He tests her out by asking her to play a lyre. Ru’er seconds the suggestion. Hong Bin tries to intervene and take Xi Rou away. But Jing You is adamant that Xi Rou should do painting next if music is not her forte. Xi Rou draws a Li family reunion to prove her worth. She also mentions that what matters is not one’s origin but character. Duke Lean and his wife are impressed with Xi Rou and agrees to the marriage. They are also looking forward to their first grandchild which makes Xi Rou uneasy. Ru’er tries to break Hong Bin and Xi Rou up by instigating Song Qin to confront Duke Lean. Song Qin impulsively throws a bowl of hot soup at Xi Rou during the confrontation. Hong Bin shields her and gets scalded in his back. Xi Rou tends to Hong Bin’s wounds. He feels embarrassed. Song Qin regrets her impulsiveness and asks Ru’er for advice. Ru’er washes her hands off the incident and tells Song Qin that she can forget about marrying Hong Bin now. Duke Lean announces to his brothers that he has agreed to Hong Bin and Xi Rou’s marriage despite Jing You’s objection. They will now try to matchmake Hong Yu with Song Qin instead.
