Wonderful story and good pace.

So I actually really liked the leads and all the cast. It was paced well and honestly I wish there was a season 2. I think the ml is the typical guarded male who comes off and cold but in actuality is scarred by traumas in life. The fl definitely has a more sheltered upbringing but in the same respect is strong in her convictions. I think my only complaint is that I felt like Gao needed more reasons in this drama to be so angry. Perhaps it was more evident in the original story. I typically fast forward through a lot of dramas but not this one. It was also interesting in both time periods. I enjoyed the growth of everyone and I think I would definitely rewatch. Enjoy, relax and have all the appropriate feels.

Great drama

I loved this drama. It started slow but lead up to a great story. The main characters had some of the best chemistry I’ve seen. And the kissing scenes were very well done. They felt like a real couple to me. This drama is so worth the watch. I enjoyed all the characters, they all acted well. I would definitely watch this again.
If I had to say one thing negative about the storyline would be about the mother. I wished she would have come to grips with the relationship in the end. But still liked that YunYun was true to herself.

In love with this Drama and The OSTs are just something else

It's like what we feel for sometime after finishing something so good , that touches our heart and what lingers after is just the faint memories of the time when we first watched /read that thing
so no matter how long it lasts we should always make the best of that moment and hope it stays , that feeling remains forever.. so I am writing this here for this special drama and it's characters to remind me of the beautiful series sad yet a bundle of a happiness , emotional yet a comfort
the effect it had on me was quite a zig zag curve , I'll miss it this series and I'm glad that I was able to watch it ..
I'm giving this 9/10 or this will become the standard for me to like a show haha
It's precious and will always be my first fav drama ever .

I watched it back while it was airing and wrote my views randomly
so today I'm just sharing it here to preserve it you could say

"What if you and I were meant to part ways, only so that we could find each other again."

This is my first time ever writing a review and I'm so glad that it's for Lighter & Princess.

L&P is no ordinary chinese drama. It is a mixture of everything, from revenge, enemies to lovers, family and friendships. I honestly started watching with no expectations but the moment I watched the first episode, I was addicted just like that. A huge appreciation for Chen Fei Yu and Zhang Jing Yi for portraying the characters very well and THEIR CHEMISTRY IS JUST BEYOND INSANE. All the actors and actresses did very well in this series.

This became my #1 favourite drama because of a few reasons. Firstly, I love the bad boy good girl trope AND THEY DELIVERED IT WELL. Secondly, the character development is insane. Not only for the main leads, but everyone. All the characters had their own story and spotlight. I just really can't put into words on how touching this drama is. CAN WE ALSO TALK ABOUT THE SOUNDTRACKS??? every single one of them were amazing.

Now let's get into the characters of the series. ML and FL were both charming in their own ways, like what we say "opposites attract". Their love story developed very well and I also really love how they don't only focus on love. It also showed how hardworking the main leads were to achieve their own goals.

It was really sad that it ended, and I hope Chen Fei Yu and Zhang Jing Yi will get another project together in the future. 'Twas a good show! a big 10/10 for L&P <3

I like the drama but those not connected with computer field might felt bored

I liked watching it . Each and every characters were good. I liked the chemistry between the main leads. I have little knowledge about programming though when they used too deep programming words and it was shown about 15 minutes that made little bored . So who didn't know anything about the computer programming ,I think they may skip and watch the episode . I think the drama through their story wanted to show us that trust is very important thing in any relationship , it also wanted to show us the person who released from the jail may not be that wrong which we think so we should give them second chance but before giving them a chance try to find out the
reason that why he was detained . The drama had also shown us that sometimes parents need to understand their child ,may be their child is not doing any wrong ,so there is need to change the perspective of judging others .
I liked the ending but I expect more . I wanted to see their proper wedding with all rituals . As they both wanted baby so I also wanted to see that they complete their family.

If you are expecting a Prince Charming and a Cinderella-story from this drama, don’t count on it. I get it that not all heroes wear capes, because this one just flicks a lighter but doesn’t smoke. Yes, Li Xun is a genius in his own right, but he could be less cocky and I would have been fine with it. Right at his heels, Zhu Yun attempts to tame this golden retriever by chasing after him, like she’s herself a dog that won’t let go of a bone.

The pacing is choppy, but manageable to watch. Cinematography and choice of music are good. The cast is diverse, so are the secondary characters, but all these good points do not negate the fact that I struggled to finish the show due to various factors. For instance, the inconsistent re-introduction of some characters who show up at odd times in the drama. I feel some characters are even under utilized (ahem, Tian Xiu Zhu) and just serve as props to the main leads, which is a sad fact because other stories could have been more developed.

For example, I would have been interested in how Ren Di’s band went from obscurity to popularity, or how her relationship with Xiao Liu evolved. Or even how Shu Miao took a legal path in her career, when she was a major part of Zhu Yun’s college days. Instead, we see such as useless POS like Zhi Jing be part of L&P board of directors and living prosperously, as if he weren’t the one tormenting Li Xun and Zhu Yun in their early days. Instead, Li Xun and his group were prohibited from joining competitions for years, while Zhi Jing could still pull strings despite being exposed in public.

Another case in point is that both male and female protagonists are unfailingly stubborn, sometimes to the point of infuriating, hardly giving leeway to anybody except to each other. They do this awkward dance where they are hot/cold towards each other, but with other people, they are self-righteous, if not selfish. I get it that Li Xun had a tough childhood, and Zhu Yun an over-protected one, but I wasn’t buying the cool-aid that because of their backstory, they expect the world to owe them something.

Yes, tenacity is good, ambitions are even better, but there’s a limit to which these things are met where it doesn’t adversely affect other people. Good news is, both Li Xun and Zhu Yun learned their lessons, over the course of their journey, to be more forgiving of others. Whereas Jian Hong failed, and in a karmic joke, life serves him an eff you, but Li Na, to her credit, stood by his side despite being given a reason to run for the hills.

Another case that baffled me is the fact that, Zhu Yun’s helicoptering mother, for all her scrutiny and apparently above-exceptional monitoring skills, failed to learn how her daughter ditched to study/work abroad to be with Li Xun, not once but twice is beyond me. I am not saying that I agree that the mother should control a full-grown adult who has her own right to choose, but I find this comically inconsistent. And how Zhu Yun, who is normally pushy when it comes to her boyfriend’s welfare, is suddenly timid at the sight of her mother. Also, the way Zhu Yun manipulates Tian Xiu Zhu to cover her whereabouts, without the latter getting anything in return but a “thank you”, wasn’t really supposed to be how “an innocent young lady” behaves.

The ending for me was anti-climactic, especially in the case of Zhi Jing. Are we supposed to forget how his behavior drove his ex-girlfriend to suicide? How his deplorable actions indirectly caused the death of Li Xun’s sister? Though granted, he did not inflict the final blow, and her death was more a result of a string of coincidental events. Still, he had malicious intent and his lack of remorse didn’t justify the punishment he got, but fully deserved.

For all its flaws, the drama isn’t bad, but not that great either. I only finished this show because of the rave reviews, but I didn’t love it as much as I probably should have.

Toxic! Toxic! Toxic!

I began to watch this drama because I really like Arthur Chen, but it quickly turned into a cringe fest.
Every single relationship in this drama is toxic. Perfect examples of everything relationships should not be, not just between the ML/FL, but also between the FL and her mother and also between the second couple too.

I really can't understand why so many reviewers think this series if great unless you take it as an example of how NOT to behave in a mature, adult manner.

Awful!

The best cdrama ever

To be honest I wasn't sure myself to watch Lighter and princess but now I'm so happy that I gave it a try. Definitely I'm going to watch it again.
Trust me I'm a kdrama addict and I watched many dramas but when I watched this Cdrama I was like this.. OMG .
The plot , the style, the cast, songs even the way this drama started, everything evvverything were new not a cliche like most of the Kdrama.
If you are bored of seeing repeatative storyline like a gorgeous rich boy fall for a poor ordinary girl who wears beautiful expensive clothes every single day ( how is that even possible!??) so watch this one.
I can't believe it's not even in top10!

Fairy-tale like with Realism

My first review ever I wanted to write on MDL because of this drama.

Genre of Youth’s struggle to adulthood, facing challenges in life, facing consequences, doing the right thing, learning to express emotions, IT programming field, parenting, growth, relationships difficulty, facing adversity, kindness of others, genius and flaws, acceptance, etc

The first act focus on developing the background of a few main characters, quite well balanced and not over the top. Youthful struggles and developing friendships and relationships. Trust, faith and dreams. Captivating and realistic character building for phase. You can understand the ML’s aloofness and the FL being giving the label of ‘Princess’. Story well edited.
The characters are consistent and can see their growth to adulthood.
Second act - adult phase shown more of characters picking up what they have loss and reconciling their past to acceptance. Building trust in each other, believing in each other and growth. Some very nice supporting characters were absolutely too perfect like FL’s childhood friends. The ML’s misfortune and stubbornness was acceptable and instead as a flaw, it was narrated more of resilience, perseverance and strengths. ML is not heartless just poor in navigating his emotions and losses in life. Hence the FL is his savior.
And the villains were not all bad in their core except for one. Driven by circumstances and bad choices, all have some bad things happened to them, to allow them to learn their lessons. Of course happy ending.
So hence the fairy tale sweetness.

The actors and actresses also all portray their roles well. Deserved many thumbs up! Sweetness but not too over the top, overall a down to earth presentation.

Worth a re-watch and review the small details designed by the team and actors and actresses.

Title should be "LIGHTER AND OBSESSION"

This is a highly rated drama. I bet it's a good one if I dared to overlook some behaviours. I know many loved this and I fully respect their sentiments. I'm sorry, I guess not for me. I tried to like it. There were some good moments where I could say it was okay. Annoyance and boredom though won in the end.

I can't stand to watch women like this one. I know she's presented as a young, immature and naive girl in the game of love in the beginning. She's sheltered and he's her first love. She's so in love that she overlooks most ugly things through the course of the series. How about in the latter episodes where she's already a mature woman years after, who has undergone so much hurt and expected to have learned her ways?

I don't get it. She's also smart defiant, determined, competitive and brave when it comes to what she believes in, but when it comes to the male lead, why oh why she lets herself lose her self respect and identity, beats me.

Even the supporting characters, I couldn't understand why he gets away with this kind of behaviour and attitude. A not so good message, relationship wise be it in friendship or romance, that just because you're good looking and a prodigy, you're entitled and you deserve to be a jerk regardless of a sad past.

Main leads as the way I see it from the episodes I tried to finish, which greatly bored and annoyed me, wouldn't be together, if FL doesn't keep showing up or running after the ML in each episode. Last straw for me was despite the great pain she went through after years, she's still this pathetic obsessed woman.

I'd say this is a drama series I could appreciate because of some good acting and character development of some actors like GAO, the second male lead. Main leads remain the same for me. FL still pathetic and obsessed and ML still an arse.
This is still a romantic drama regardless of all these techno innovations whatever. I'm still old school with regard to romance, be it in books and TV series. I hate doormats when it comes to my female heroines.
Overall, this could be a drama with great potential for me if the FL isn't made like this love obsessed girl. And I don't believe ML is believable that he loved this girl after everything he put her through.

Good film

The story line is good and quite logical so far as I have been watching till episode 31 .

The chemistry between two leads is sweet, cute and natural, reminded me of my younger self. Even though they still need to improve their acting skills (sometimes still off during the drama) but overall it is good to watch, considering they are still very young actors.

Zhang Jingyi’s acting is very promising and Chen Geiyu’ eyes is catchy and lovable. I think they would be great actors in the future and can’t wait for their developments and improvements.

P/s: this drama is one of few C-drama that I dont need fast forward 👍

Go Go Squid

If you haven't seen a lot of modern Chinese series, it might be interesting for you, but I have seen a few series like this, which are much better than this one.
And this was a cliché for me, it didn't attract me, it was boring and it didn't attract me.
Although I like this genre, for example, I really liked Go Go Squid, so I rewatched it several times
In my opinion, like me, don't download this series until the end. If you didn't like the first few episodes, don't continue because the series is the same until the end
