One More Episode Turned Into Four Rewatches

📝 Review

(WARNING: Potential Spoilers — I’m Not Saving You from Any Emotional Damage)

I've always been a sucker for transmigration dramas, so this one already had my attention before I even pressed play. A girl getting pulled into a novel and forced to complete missions to survive? That's basically catnip for me.

What I wasn't expecting was how quickly I would become attached to the characters.

The story follows Ling Miao Miao as she finds herself trapped inside a novel as the villainous supporting character. To return home, she must complete a series of increasingly difficult missions, including winning over the mysterious Mu Sheng. What starts as a game-like survival story quickly evolves into something much deeper, blending fantasy, adventure, romance, comedy, and surprisingly emotional character growth.

The FL is witty, resourceful, and endlessly entertaining, while the ML starts off as a walking red flag wrapped in mystery before slowly revealing the layers underneath, creating one of the most enjoyable relationship progressions I've watched in recent years.

The supporting cast never feels like background decoration. Mu Yao and Liu Fu Yi contribute just as much to the emotional weight of the story as the main couple, helping the group dynamic feel natural and complete.

These types of dramas tend to rely heavily on their gimmick, and this one could have easily coasted on the transmigration concept alone.

Instead, it built characters I genuinely cared about.

The chemistry between Esther Yu and Ding Yu Xi is phenomenal. Whether they're making me laugh, making me frustrated, or making me smile like an idiot at my screen, they simply work together.

Visually, this drama is gorgeous. The costumes, creatures, fantasy landscapes, and special effects showcase just how far Chinese fantasy productions have evolved. There were multiple scenes where I caught myself admiring the visuals before remembering I was supposed to be reading subtitles.

And then there's the soundtrack.

The OST is absolutely incredible.

I've added most of the songs to my regular playlist, which is probably one of the highest compliments I can give a drama soundtrack. Long after finishing the series, the music stayed with me.

By the middle/end, I was fully emotionally invested in these characters and their journey.

Then the finale happened.

And here's where my one complaint lives.

Not because the ending was bad.

Because it stopped one scene too soon.

After everything these characters went through, I wanted the payoff of actually seeing them reunite in the real world. I wanted that final moment where all the waiting, growth, and emotional investment came full circle.

Instead, we get the implication.

The possibility.

The hope.

Mu Sheng calls her name.

She turns.

And then the drama ends.

I understand what they were going for.

I still wanted one more scene.

One actual reunion.

One chance to watch these two finally get their happy ending outside the novel.

My brain: "Just give me five more minutes."

My emotions: "We deserved that reunion."

My snacks: long gone several episodes ago.

In the end, I finished feeling happy, emotional, and slightly robbed of the closure I wanted.

And somehow… it worked.

Because even now, after multiple rewatches, I'm still thinking about these characters.

Still listening to the music.

Still wishing for that one final scene.

In a most positive way possible, it's S+ after all

I remember one OP on twitter said it's interesting how people didn't have high expectation despite this drama is classified as S+. Well, i'm guilty, i'm part of those people.

I read the novel, drop it tho, but i read pass the halfway mark. I think part of the reason i didn't put high expectation is because as far as i know, transmigration trope is loosely banned. i said loosely since many mini dramas still have this trope. So because this drama rely heavily on transmigration trope, i just wanna keep my expectation on check in case of major change in the premise.

Plotwise, i actually like the pace. how everything reveal slowly and not dump everything at the end as an afterthought. Although the last 2 episodes could feels like that for some yet it doesn't seem forced, at least for me. It's true how every character including the minor one deserve to shine. The biggest plus imo is the heartwarming ending which in sync with how the drama been carrying on the lighter side from the star. Like i said, nothing seem forced and just go with the flow.

Acting department is good. Again, every character has chance to shine. Our leads shine brighter ofc duh, their chemistry casually overflowing and they served, despite no kissing scene 🤐

And yes, the budget spent wisely during post production. For high budget drama, i can see it result in many departments. Just like Miaomiao said at the beginning, it cost a lot lol.

In short, i love it, still it has so much more to improve. Although if the goal is light drama, i don't mind this ending.

One of the best series from 2024 <3

The chemistry between the main characters was great, especially at the beginning. It seemed like a kind of enemies to lovers, which I loved!
However, after they got together, they had fewer romantic moments.. But the 4 friends remained united in any obstacle they had to face, and Miaomiao, although she was not part of that fantasy world, gave everything to change the story and help the others. I really liked this aspect too.
Although the romance was not really present in the relationship between the two, it was very beautiful how he declared his love for her at the end. I was still sad because I didn't want the story to end like that.. but I feel fulfilled by the fact that the love between them remained.

Amazing

This is the third drama from Esther Yu that I've watched. And all three dramas were amazing. She is a great actress, and I love how she immerses herself in every story. If you want to see a strong character, you need to watch "My Journey to You"; if you want to see a cute character, you need to watch this drama or "Love Between Fairy and Devil." This drama made me feel sad, but I loved the ending. It made me reflect on my own life. I'm not a big fan about game dramas, but this history it's very beautiful. It left me hooked for 6 whole days without being able to stop watching it, I cried a lot and fell in love with the characters, just like the protagonist, the story started to feel real.

Review: Drama vs. Novel Comparison ?

I loved all the characters in drama rather than the novel.

Having read the original novel, I couldn’t help but compare it to the drama. In the novel, the FL (Female Lead) is deeply in love with another guy, and staying true to her feelings is central to her character. However, her goal to increase the ML’s (Male Lead’s) favorability towards her adds an intriguing conflict. This dynamic, which highlights the FL walking a tightrope between her true emotions and her mission, is missing in the drama, which felt disappointing.

While the novel has moments that might make you dislike certain characters, the drama redeems those elements, giving us a more cohesive and wholesome story. The ending was satisfying, but I did miss certain standout scenes from the novel, like the one where the ML controls the FL and marries her. I was excited to see how they’d execute it, but sadly, it wasn’t included.

Instead, the drama introduces a love spell track involving the FL, but it’s not directed at the ML, which felt like an interesting twist but a missed opportunity for their relationship. On the other hand, the ML’s heartfelt three-line description of the FL while searching for her was beautifully executed and one of my favorite moments.

In summary, while the drama diverges from the novel and skips some iconic scenes, it excels at delivering an enjoyable and heartwarming narrative. Worth a watch, definitely a big YESSSSS!!!

Went downhill

The beginning was nice and fun. But after a third of the way through, it began being incredibly childish.
From the spoilers I read from the novel, I can tell they went completely off track. No even once have I seen a film/series adaptation doing their own spin be better than the original book, and this is no exception. Overconfident script writers with no real writing talent.
Most of the story and the characters had no point, since in the end none of it was real and the only real people were the female and male lead, according to this drama adaptation.

OST is really good

very typical plot where someone in modern world is pulled into a novel/story.

first half of the show was quite entertaining as the female lead navigated through the game play but plot started to make less sense towards the end. especially the part on the amnesia - which wasn't revealed until the end.

the ending was poorly presented, especially the last part when she couldnt remember what she experienced.

female lead's acting was hard to watch, every expression was exaggerated. i couldn't see much chemistry between her and the male lead either.

only saving grace was the OST, most of the songs in the show were fantastic!

Heartwarming adventure with people you love

This was so good that I ended up reading the novel and the manhua, first time I've ever done this. The ending was kinda undercooked in the drama but the journey this took me on 😭. I gave it 10/10 solely based on how much i loved their adventures and banter and acting. The leads go on adventures town to town pokemon style while drawing closer to solving the overarching bigger mysteries. Ding Yuxi's acting was actually so good even in a scene with no lines i was completely taken about by how good his facial acting was it was like i could see a thought bubble next to his head in so many scenes i could practically read his face. The chemistry between Esther yu and ding yuxi was truly amazing. This is the first drama where i gobbled up all the extra content like photoshoots, fanarts, fanfics, ost covers, interviews and behind the scenes.

I love this so much I will keep rewatching this till the end of time

A drama that will make you laugh and cry all at once

This drama was honestly so much fun! I loved how hilarious it was, and I am also a sucker for a transmigration drama <3 I LOVED the chemistry between Ding Yuxi and Esther Yu, I just think that they work so well together! This drama had me laughing but also bawling my eyes out towards the end! I even loved the side couple, but I wish that they gave more screen time to our main couple of Mu Sheng and Mao Mao. It was so beautifully executed, and the visuals in this drama were so gorgeous!!

Tight plot - where everything eventually gets explained + Beautiful acting

I began watching this show as a fluff timepass but ended up getting glued and looking forward to more. All the actors did a great job and Ding Yuxi was outstanding. Part of the viewing fun was simply watching Mu Sheng's expressions - he outdid himself.
I can definitely see myself rewatching this drama.
I also enjoyed the story pattern of taking a cliche - ridiculing it through a character - and then breaking said cliche.
Esther & Ding Yuxi's chemistry was a lot of fun to see playing out. And the camaraderie of the main & supporting leads was lovely to watch too.

Really loved this drama!

I watched this drama 2 months back and I really liked it. The plot is very interesting and well-developed. I LOVE the OST a lot, and it fits very well with the drama (especially Before the Eternal Night.) The visuals were stunning, and the drama was quite impressive for 32 episodes.

Spoiler alert btw

The ending was also AMAZING, especially in the part where Miaomiao chooses to rewrite the novel's ending for the characters' sake, managed to prevent the Heaven's Catastrophe with the help of Ziqi and the novel's author. I also like how most side characters didn't really die, they just stayed in the novel.

Overall, I think this is a very entertaining drama! If there is a season 2, I'd love to watch! Definitely my favorite transmigration drama, and it is my second favorite drama of all time.

Love game in eastern fantasy is good. It's just that the ending feels a bit rushed. But overall I like the drama especially Ding yuxi and Esther they portrayed their character well. Of course, to all the supporting actors and directors of this drama thank you for giving us this masterpiece. Looking forward to their 3rd collaboration soon!
