It pulls you in, but doesn't always keep you there
This is my review of part 1 and 2 in its entirety, not the individual parts. While I enjoyed the beginning and the show kept me hooked til the end, I do think it missed on a few points.
First, the things I liked: I loved that Yun He was smart and powerful. Many of these shows make the female lead a person that gets herself into trouble but needs help getting out of it, normally by the male lead. Her intelligence, wisdom, and strength made her a fascinating and interesting character.
I also really liked Chang Yi. I felt that his character was very realistically portrayed and he, too, was a powerful, intelligent being. It's rare to find a show that is willing to make the male lead naive and sweet, and it was nice to watch.
Many reviews state the lack of chemistry between the main leads, but I would disagree. I actually felt it to be pretty solid. Not mind-blowing, but good.
As for Hao Qing, it was interesting to see him basically similar to his father (minus the manipulation) towards the end. He was also in a wheelchair, and his attendant was also in love with him. Not sure if I liked his somewhat bittersweet ending, but it wasn't too bad.
The world-building was well done, and while the CGI wasn't always great, I've seen worse!
Our main leads' ending was left open ended, but I felt satisfied.
Now onto the things I didn't like as much.
I honestly disliked how this show treated Shunde. I'm not saying what Shunde was good, in fact I very much hated her, but compared to the other bad guys she felt more two-dimensional. While the other big bad guys got redemption arcs (Lin Cang Lan not being truly evil, he just so happened to be forced into the situation; Ning Qing ultimately sacrificing himself to atone for his sins), she did not. And yes, while we did get some other powerful, good women in this show, the fact that the only evil woman was treated differently than the two other (significant) male antagonists was a bit questionable.
I also really disliked Luo Luo. A lot. I am not a fan of the ditzy, silly best friend who means well but because she can't read the room ends up causing the main leads more trouble. Shows always want to portray this type of character as cute but I just find it immensely annoying. Not to mention the really frustrating "pretty-fication". At the start, she was supposed to be not very attractive (she has freckles and slightly darker skin; apparently this is considered unattractive) but then she finds love and magically loses her freckles and gets lighter skin. Not only am I so tired of the casual racism this trope implies, but also the message that you can't be average-looking to find love.
Overall, a fun watch, but I did occasionally have to use the fast forward button to get past drawn-out parts (or parts featuring Luo Luo).

hate it still loved it, fucking guilty pleasure
Actually there is only 5 chicness drama I have completed with leaving any episode( Arsenal Military Academy, Falling Into Your Smile, love 020, you are my glory, put your head on my shoulder) because Chinese drama are too long.I am big fan of Dilruba dilmurat. Her acting and beauty always stand out but this series has lots of loophole. one moment it feel like okay it is good enough and next moment it make feel like should I drop it but I don't wanna drop it coz I was was already in love with this series. soofy Music, pain, love, I have never been in love like this ever with any other Chinese drama.
I even left Eternal love in the middle. you can hate it but still you cannot ignore it. it is fucking guilty pleasure. You can love and hated relationship with this drama. I watch whole this drama for the sake of love. Actually I don't care even other people criticize but still i will say i am in love with this drama.

I didn't have any problem with part I. I want a complaint about part II.
How many times does a FL die? I really don't understand the ending. And im really really not satisfied abt the ending. Like srly? How come she had a mermaid tail if she is a nine-tailed fox? How and when she get out from there where she sealed herself with shunde? Yall know what? My heart cant accept this! 😭. I just want the ending storyline is clear.... Its make me feel like a hanging storyline.. I want to know how she getting out from there. I didn't read the novel. How's the ending in the novel? No no no, i can't move on with this drama. Its hurt my heart so much. I do love the storyline(except the ending 😒) , the cast, their costumes, music..overall, Good. *hmm* just the ending hurt me so much. I just hope the director give us a clear ending.. Don't leave me in pain bruhhh 😩😩 you hurt my chang yi bruhh, 300 years is so long!!
Can someone tell me, where can i read TBW novel? I want to heal my self from this not clear and hanging ending storyline. 😂💔 ok that's all from me. - heartbroken

I love the cast, but the plot in part two fell short (for me). I love Reba but her dramas are often hit/miss. I thought this drama had meh storyline. I wished they were able to come to compromise sooner, and understand each other better, but they did not. They continued to create more misunderstandings. I also thought that the chemistry between the two leads were lackluster. I know others on Viki were leaving comments about the same thing. Everyone says that Allen Ren doesn't "act" when it comes to intimacy due to the respect he has for his wife. But even just emotionally, I didn't feel love between the leads. Visually - this drama was amazing. I liked the amount of effort they put into staging the set, the cinematography and music. However, all off these things do not matter if the plot isn't there.

Both the seasons' review
The first episode wasn't very clear to me, but from the second episode onward, the story started to make sense. It is a love story that explores themes of jealousy, hatred, agony, separation, and happy moments. The chemistry between the main leads was good, but my favorite couple was Luo Luo and Kong Ming. For me, they stole the limelight from the main leads. I enjoyed their scenes more, even though they had fewer moments on screen. One scene I particularly liked was when he bit her ear to give her the merman's mark, ensuring he could always reach her whenever she was in trouble.
While the story had some dull scenes, overall, I liked it.

Amazing drama
Part one of this drama was really good and also the part two. I didn’t have high expectations from the beginning because of the rating was low. But after watching the part one and two, I believed that this drama deserves a higher rating. The main leads have really good chemistry. Hu Yixuan’s acting is also great. All the supporting actors and actresses were also amazing. I wish that the ending is a bit longer especially for the main leads. Hope to see Dilraba and Allen Ren together in a modern drama. Congratulations to all the casts. Was this review helpful to you?
Similar with Part 1 but much Better
Before starting this series, I've read the synopsis back and forth - wondering whether I should give it a try or not. The answer is yes, I do give in. After watching the first episode, I didn't feel anything worthy and only watched ML's scene. Even I skipped lots of scenes involving the FL (she's a bit of hypocritical, I must say).Other characters are not worthy to be mentioned. I just jump all of their scenes because they have a high amount of screentime.
Considering this is one of Jiu Lu Fei Xiang's works, it should be a breakout - but sadly, due to the bad script and supporting characters' high screentime, it falls short in every aspect.
Edit for part 2: The storyline is much better compared to the first part. I like the torturing part the best. Other than that, the ending does satisfy me. However, the others are meh.
If you want to watch something better, you can try The Legends, Love Between Fairy and Devil (although it's not my cup of tea), Back From the Brink, Love You Seven Times, The Legend of Shen Li (which will be airing next week).

Was this review helpful to you?

The second part is WAY better
Love the acting, the effects, music - both parts were equal there. What made the difference was the tempo - there was no part that I tried to miss. During the first 22 episodes I was really trying not to drop. This was my first time when I endured for so long and it was worth the wait. My patience gave me the best emotional rollercoaster in this year so far.
I fell that I need to explain tho 9's that I've gave.
The one for the story - there were some plot holes that they've unfortunately missed. For example, there was this "miracle, magical, mystical" mushroom, that they've spent centuries to obtain and later they've just trow it somewhere. I do understand that they needed that mushroom to complete parts of the story for many characters, but when you put each and every episode together and see this part something fells off.
That was the plot that I remember, I hope they've made a soup with it at least (this was one of the parts that where watched in 1,5x times speed and it was still hard to watch).
Rewatch value - there're some dramas like Eternal Love, Princess Agents, Nirvana in Fire, that are moving, loving, splendid, full of emotional rollercoasters and you just can't help to watch it again, despite knowledge what will come. There should be option to put score of the 100 near these dramas.
With these three dramas above, you cannot know each and every detail, unless you watch them milion times. Even if you think that you know everything, you do not. There's this strange feeling that you want to watch them again and again. Unfortunately I didn't feel that emotion here.
I really love the effort in The Blue Whisperer and the actors that are one of my favourites, but I can't help to overcome my mixed emotions when watching first part. I still would love to see new projects of each and every person that created this drama. Maybe it's just boredom, because everything was settled at the end (love open endings), or because I'm a bit mad after watching lots of episodes and still having hope for a better ones, like the reviews said.
Anyway, it's worth watching, even with some small flaws.

Riveting but sad
This review is for parts 1 &2. While I found this drama riveting, the middle dragged a bit for me. I also had to stop in the middle for a couple of weeks and watch another lighter drama because I found the treatment of Yun He and the Lin Hao Qing sadistic and tragic. The first 1/3 of part 2 was also depressing because Yun He was dying and Chang Yi was so mean to her. I felt they dragged this out too long. However, I really liked the episodes starting from where Yun He meets Chang Yi again. Their wedding was so romantic. Although their wedding outfits were in red, the bride did not have her face covered.I loved the acting of the main leads and the secondary leads. The costumes were beautiful and the cinematography was good. Dilraba is as beautiful as ever and Allen Ren looks just gorgeous. I first saw him in Under the Power and liked him, but he is even more good looking here. He is a good actor.
This drama is worth watching but a bit depressing. After 42 episodes, thank goodness the ending was good though a bit choppy. I had to rewatch the last few minutes to figure out that they were showing the future when Yun He was free.

Prepare those tissues!
This review covers both parts of The Blue Whisper. The show, in many sites are shown as 1 with a total of 42 episodes but it's separated into 2 parts, first part is 22 episodes and Part 2 is 20 episodes. The entire series is a recommendation, if you love fairies, immortals, mythical beasts etc. The story line is nice and amazing, alot of teary parts - hence the reminder to prepare your tissues. Throughout the whole series, both Part 1 and 2, there are alot of emotional moments that somehow feels like it could just rip you apart. There are also many funny moments to be found but alot of sad and betrayal moments.
The casts did a splendid job on this series, both the Male and Female Lead are superb. They really did a great job portraying their characters, especially the merman. The innocence along with all the other mix emotions from happiness, sadness, betrayal etc has been portrayed remarkably by Ren Jia Lun (Male lead). Dilraba also did a remarkable job - at times, you don´t even know if she really meant what she said or was it just a plot to get things done.
The soundtrack for both parts are quite nice. Although the beginning song for Part 2, in my opinion, was just too shrilly. I love the song that Ren Jia Lun sang - The merman song - but unfortunately couldn't really find that song with him singing it instead of the original singer.
I would recommend to watch, if you like the synopsis after reading it. Rewatching wise, well, that would really depend on individual opinions. But I have watched it more than twice already. xD
