I chose to watch this drama because I just finished watching Ao Rui Peng’s Moonlight Mystique and Wrong Carriage, Right Groom. It started out great. FL was cute and funny. The sickly ML Murong Chong’s mother was using Murong Zhuwan’s blood (his sister) to heal his poisoned body. Things got out of hand, an explosion happened and the real Murong Zhuwan died. I don’t like the mother, because after using the FL to stand as Zhuwan, she sends people to kill her a few times, and the ML, her son, wasn’t aware of this. So when she died inside that room along with the enemies, I had no ounce of sympathy for her. The ML was always angry and wanted to kill the FL every chance he got, then all of a sudden, after FL healed his chest wound, he was like “Why is she so nice to me? Has she fallen in love with me?” What the heck? Was that the first thing that came to your mind?? No wonder she didn’t choose you or Fu Hong. I didn’t like the plan they did. It cost some lives of important people like Xi, the maid who is with the FL all the time. The actor who played Fu Hong didn’t really impress me. There wasn’t much to see due to lack of expressions. FL wanted to know her origin, and when she does, she just looked up and smiled. Like, what the fudge was that?? She told the two ML’s that she wasn’t from that world. Wait, what?? Come again? I had a head ache from the ending. Forget it. 2 is bc I enjoyed the FL at the beginning. But that’s about it. Oh well.

feels like the target audience is people who fetishize incest

So this was one of my friends' first cdramas (said friend only vaguely remembered it but had fun w/ it), and one day when we were talking about the current era of cdramas having polyam vibes, Wanru's Journey came up as a recommendation bc I'm a sucker for a triad. TBH the premise already turned me off from being into the triad since Xiao Ru is pretending to be Murong Zhuwan (since they look identical), so as far as any outsiders know her and Murong Chong are siblings.............. like. why are we doing a pseudo-incest romance?????? Cause (minor) spoilers but the show definitely has a Murong Chong x "Murong Zhuwan" agenda. But I've watched things where I didn't care for or even outright hated the main pairing and still had a mostly enjoyable time so I was like "the whole mistaken identity situation is actually kinda interesting if you ignore whatever is going on w/ these two so I'll keep watching." Should've known that was a mistake given the pseudo-incest lmao.

Basically there's this whole enemies to lovers vibe going on with Murong Chong and Xiao Ru where he's repeatedly threatening her life over relatively minor things but then she'll watch him in secret and be like "he's so handsome 😍🤤". It's uncomfortable. I finally tapped out bc there's a scene near the start of episode 6 of Xiao Ru having written (erotic?) fanfic about Murong Chong (and I think his friend Fu Hong? I don't fully grasp the details of what she wrote) and he tries to strangle Xiao Ru over this but they get caught by Fu Hong and Xiao Ru is lying on the bed and Murong Chong is like..... basically straddling her so Fu Hong is like "wtf is happening???????" and then Murong Chong gets up and somehow his belt slides off??????????????? and he's like "[nervous laughter] it's not what you think" and it's like...................... he thinks that's your sister.................... no one would be thinking you are having sex unless they think you are assaulting her............................ and then Xiao Ru makes her clothes all disheveled to accuse Murong Chong of just that and it's supposed to be a funny moment????????????????????? WHAT ARE WE DOING???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Basically the writers are weirdos who had a lot of fun playing up the pseudo-incest. I don't recommend this.
