Messy, Real, and Beautifully Human

Our Beloved Summer is cute, charming, and quietly profound. The entire cast delivers, but the secondary couple adds so much humor and warmth — their chemistry is underrated. Park Jin-joo absolutely steals scenes; she’s hilarious yet deeply genuine, bringing emotional depth beneath the laughs.

What makes this drama stand out is how it tackles feelings of insecurity and inferiority without losing its light tone. It reminds you that love isn’t about perfection — it’s about acceptance, vulnerability, and growth. By the end, you’ll feel seen, understood, and maybe a little nostalgic for your own “what if” moments.

I started this Kdrama because of Choi Wooshik and i really wasn't disappointed. Later I found out Kim Taehyung made an OST for this kdrama and once I heard the song play in the episodes i literally couln't contain my excitement. Overall the plot is really sweet and the pace was really well done as well. I don't think anything was rushed and everything fell into its place in time. The two love birds falling in love with each other and sharing a lovely kiss in the rain just like their first kiss really makes your heart skip a beat. I loved the documentary bit as well, how the universe needed them to get together again. Forced proximity is one of my favourite genres so this was really enjoyable. Second lead was also very likeable- on both sides. The famous idol girl and the guy who films, I liked them all. Really cute kdrama, I recommend it if you like sweet romance kdramas like this!

I wish my summer was beloved too

Feb. 20, 2022

Oh damn, another drama done on my ever-growing list of k-dramas. I can't believe it’s done. Our Beloved Summer is one of the few dramas where I will excuse the "break up" parts because it is so well thought out and not like those unnecessary breakups in other dramas.

The chemistry is splendid, I think that the male lead and female lead were able to convey the emotions needed. I like how the acting is just appropriate and the casts were not overacting or underacting. Also, the documentary movie was so cute as well. I kinda skipped it through while watching since I cannot find the subtitles. But I'll edit this review, once I find the subtitle for their move.

Ji-ung is the character that I have a lot to talk about. For me, I relate heavy to his story so maybe this is why he captured my heart and my attention throughout the whole series. Yes, it is hard to accept parents who have neglected you throughout your whole life. I also understand why he felt that way. I just wanna hug him so bad cause he needs it so much. Thank god, he was able to find some sense of family with Ung's parents. I really hope that Ji-ung was given a solid partner, but I'll settle for the hint that the directors gave away.

I guess the moral of the story is: cherish your life and live as if it is you're last...

What a beloved feeling~

Took me a while to finally watch this and I do have to say that it's different than what I had imagined. It's really good and I would tell all of my friends to watch it (if only I had any).
For some reason, Ji-ung wasn't doing it for me until the end of the drama. Maybe it was because he was kind of making a move on his best friend's ex girlfriend? Idk.
I didn't understand why the camera man kept filming Ung's ear or the back of the actor's head.
Anyway, it was good. Liked it a lot.

The couple I've waited all year for.

You're pretty smart. You probably figured out the ending, or at least the one you hoped for. If you think the beginning is a little weak, hang in there, the last half paid off and the ending was chefs kiss perfect. One of my favorites. The rare drama where a second season could work and be just as good as the first.

I said it all with the headline, but i could watch another 16 episodes where the leads reminisce about their first dates, who fell for who first...pull weeds, fold laundry and put away cabbage. And the cherry on top, the supporting cast storyline, is really, really good.

If we were friends and you didn't fall in love with this, I'd be worried about you.

the story of a relationship that isn’t over yet

Woong and Yeon Soo had filmed a documentary when they were in school, which now has gone viral. So, years after their first camera encounter, and a long time after their painful breakup, the two will have to film its sequel.

Korean Drama Our Beloved Summer is a slice of life drama about a love story that has a more realistic approach to it. The drama is well constructed, revealing the past story slowly, while the characters are dealing with their current problems and emotions. And even though the love triangle was dimmed to not work, the slice of life vibes, with a more character-driven story, gave a refreshing approach to the love story.

The latter was a bittersweet romance, with an emphasis on the melodrama and few surprises when it came to its outcome and progress. However, towards the ending, the drama started showing its weaknesses. The couple, though they were mostly connected by their teary past, they didn’t have many things in common to keep them interesting for the viewer. Also, the story got more and more predictable and had few things to offer. In the end, it was more about miscommunication than drama.

Another culprit is the fact that the series founded the story on the logging for the main couple to get together. So, after that, the drama didn’t have anything else to say, though they could have explained Woong’s family situation more in-depth compared to the brush-off that happened.

Yeon Soo used to be the best student in her class. She was raised by her grandmother and she has always been struggling to survive financially, so she learned to be tough and built a nonchallenging character. Kim Da Mi‘s comeback proves that she is a versatile actress. Woong is a quirky character who is a talented artist. He is closed up and he hardly opens up or makes friends, though he is an aloof young man. He is very emotional and sensitive.

Choi Woo Shik did a great job with his performance. Ji Woong is Woong’s friend. Due to their common name, he always lived under his shadow, though he never really envied him, due to Woong’s sweet character. Ji Woong is a lonely man who feels like he doesn’t fit in. Kim Sung Chul gave a quite emotional performance.

NJ is a famous idol who is always busy, but finds nothing to make her happy. She likes Woong, however, she gets disappointed that he doesn’t seem to be as interested in her. Roh Jeong Eui handled her character brilliantly.Sol Yi is Yeon Soo’s friend. She used to be a scriptwriter, but she quit and has opened a pub that isn’t doing so well. She is an energetic character, friendly and loyal.Park Jin Joo is dramaland’s favourite side character and she is always delightful.

The drama had a smooth OST and an enjoyable pace, that didn’t confuse with the back and forth.

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Our Beloved Summer is 7 out of 10. The drama managed to present the story in a clever, entertaining way.

giving this series A SECOND CHANCE

when this series first aired, i wanted to love it, but halfway through, the story didn’t compel me enough to continue, so i dropped it. fast forward to 2024, i was in a drama slump, and when i saw the series on Netflix, i decided to give it another try. and i’m glad i did.

the reason i dropped it initially was that the story felt quite mundane. there were no surprising twists or moments of intense drama to keep me on the edge of my seat. ironically, that same quality became the reason i grew to love it after giving it another chance. as the years have passed and i’ve gotten older, i’ve come to appreciate stories about everyday life more. a story doesn’t always need to be extravagant or packed with thrills–just like life itself.

the entire cast of this drama truly delivered. Kim Da Mi and Choi Woo Shik had amazing chemistry and looked so good together. however, my favorite was Park Jin Joo; her character brought so much joy to every scene she was in! and oh how i felt bad for Kim Sung Cheol’s character. he deserves love and happiness.

at the end of the day, i’ve realized that everything comes down to mood and timing. if a drama doesn’t resonate with you now, consider revisiting it in the future—you might find yourself appreciating it in a whole new way.

Amazing & Beautiful ❤️✌️

This was something unique & I loved it ❤️ A teenage romantic drama & the romantic relation b/w the main characters was amazing, the back n forth of their relationship n it literally gave me butterfly all the way throughout the episodes. You can feel the connection with the characters throughout the series & that raw emotions & feelings they are going through. Besides, the OSTs of this series are also great & I loved it. After completing the series I hopped on to Spotify & listened to all of it's OST tracks & they all are soothing & great ❤ Also, the side characters were also portrayed in a very good way. I'll definitely recommend this & I'll give it 8/10 🔥✌️

I'm an emotional mess

I'm not gonna lie, it took me a while to watch this drama, but i didn't wanna rush it. I wanted to savor every second and I'm glad i did.
It was amazing, i loved the peace they set, the way they keep showing you past and present, the way you slowly get to know everyone.
The cast was excellent: i cried and laughed so much!
The characters all had a personality and more or less it got represented so well!
The music was a m a z i n g: i might be biased about Christmas tree but all of the songs made for this drama where great!
I'd definitely rewatch this drama again just to cry like a bitch in the end!

An expected review

I have wanted to watch this k-drama because it featured two of my favourite actors and I am happy I finally did it. At first, I thought it was going to be a simple and relaxing love story but how wrong I was, it was so much more complex and touching. Full of emotions it touched on topics such as youth, growing up, changing, love, friends, family, loneliness, trusting and abandoning issues and even not as clear depression. I am not gonna lie sometimes it was overwhelming but the way they made it so realistic and relatable for any class age was one of the reasons that made me like this k-drama so much. Another reason was the action was so raw and beautiful again made me love the drama all the characters had a purpose to represent something in my view even if it was only for comedic relief, the plot was interesting and how everything got wrapped up was so satisfying. And I really recommend everyone to give this drama a try it´s worth it, they made me giggle and laugh through it all but also cry and be angry, the cinematography, the ost, the production and the actors collectively made this a 10/10.

Love is indeed sweeter the second time around!

For the love of DamShik and OBS, here you go.

It's been months since the show ended but I haven't moved on from WoongYeonsu yet, blame it to Kim Dami & Choi WooShik oozing chemistry.

I really thought that OBS was romance-comedy but gosh, I was so wrong. I ended up crying in every episode. LOL The first few episodes were somewhat heartbreaking BUT I see the beauty in it. The drama is beyond perfection from the cast, plot, cinematography, and its OST. I couldn't think of any other actors who can deliver the characters of Yeonsu & Woong as good as Dami & WooShik, Their high school and college look still amaze me.

More than just a romance

I really love how the plot was written. It is predictable, simple, sometimes boring but I love how the writer tried to use relatable emotions to make the story a great piece of art. I love how this series captured adulting life, the traumas, relationship with parents, friends and lover, the decisions we make everyday that makes us mature a little each day. I love the portrayal of that through this series.

Of course, who wouldn't love the casts? Their chemistry are top-notch. DaMi and WooShik look great together on-cam. I feel butterflies in my stomach whenever they are on a lovey-dovey mode. Matched up with the superb OST songs. It was all perfect.

I really recommend this series if you're someone who's just looking for a light-hearted story with minor tear-jerking scenes. You'll definitely fall in love with this series.
