Fake and true piety…the Fu legacy

Fu Ting Zhao and family came through in a true showing of Fu family filial piety. He basically told his father he could stop the act and he would honor his Gma's wish and take her home to be buried with family. He is breaking the chain of his father’s fake piety and showing his children what loving family really looks like. TingYun got in the last word with Ms Yan when she asked her if making it to the top and existing as a solitary corpse was what true love looked like. She wanted to be by her husband’s side no matter where he was or position he held. She wanted to know if true love could exist between husband son or daughter in law when the goal was moving up not hanging on to family. She she tries to plead ill for her husband’s next round of scheming, he doesn’t try to comfort or be concerned….he was annoyed that she could feel bad at such a time when he needed her to do his thinking for him to make a plan.😝I think it is here where she starts to lose it a little as she really takes in where her chosen path is taking her. Shen has told Zhao Ling of the discrepancies in the grain/salt ledgers and that he needs to get there to help fix. Zhao Ling knows this traces to the Yus so he confiscates all the records before they can be lost or changed by Yu. In retaliation, he talks Fu into killing his wife so his son in law will be removed from duty to mourn. He was a bit reluctant but remembering his wife’s divorce decree and hiding the rest of her inheritance….the bastard complied and then had the audacity to create another worshiping hut near the capital so he could stay. TingYun got a goodbye from her mom in a dream but she was devastated to find out about her death. I am not sure if the maid was paid to tell that story or if the maid believed it true, but it was made to look like her body gave out rather than helped along to die. The end of the episode TingYun confronts her father asking how long his act was going to continue.

What filial piety should truly be

Fifth Master Fu, you didn't! 😭 I was so mad at them for even thinking of that... And just to get Zhao Ling away for those three months for Lord Yu to get his plan through? 😠😤 Believe me, Fu Shichang, you arrogant fool, you were played and no reward will be coming your way! Ever. 😞🫵But, apart from the saddest thing they could ever decide to do, we actually got something good in this episode, too. Tingyun got Madam Yu rethinking how their family is operating and whether there is any love between them... which we all know — there isn't. It's only calculations, schemes, and a thirst for power, wealth, and status. I chuckled a little at her calling that dignity... 🤭And Concubine Wu does her part in the Yu family perfectly, as it really looks like she's slowly wrapping Jingxiu around her finger and I wonder how she will use that. Will it be just for her own benefit in the Yu family and to aid Madam Wu? Or will she use it to reach her ultimate goal — freedom from all her shackles? 🤔One of my favourite scenes in this episode definitely was Tingzhou standing up to his father, taking the banner and leading the delegation with Old Madam Fu's coffin to Huaying, while his wife explained to their children what filial piety should truly be."Filial piety is not blind obedience. It is knowing right from wrong. Righteousness is not empty fame. It is breaking old rules." ❤️😌
