Cai Zhao’s parents fear she may repeat Cai Ping Zhu’s tragic fate if she trusts Mu Qing Yan, believing he could deceive her like the mysterious Painted Skin Demon once did. Though Cai Zhao admits she likes Mu Qing Yan, she refuses to meet him after receiving his letter about a new clue regarding the black-clothed figure. Meanwhile, Song Yu Zhi prepares a romantic lakeside proposal and asks Cai Zhao to marry him. She gratefully acknowledges his support after her broken engagement but gently refuses his confession. That night, Mu Qing Yan secretly visits her room and promises to abandon everything to be with her, but Qi Yun Ke discovers him.
