In 1984, a potential serial killer struck again as a ghastly explosion shook the city. Now it’s 2019, and copies of those crimes come to light. Follow the team of Detective Jae Hwan, Profiler Yoo Jin, and Surgeon Dr. Joong Yeob assigned to solve both the cold and current cases. Their prime suspect goes by ‘Chimera’, after the beast in Greek mythology. It had the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a fire-breathing serpent.
To capture the criminal, they must first uncover the secrets that link the two cases some thirty-five years apart.

After unfortunate events in his life, Yi Je being one of Seoul's most exalted physicians, turns into a prison doctor who finds hereditary diseases that send the innocent and guilty away from death row and confinement. His goal of finding justice for bereaved families is all he's after, so he works around his excellence as a medical doctor to get around the law. With his prescriptions, he turns himself as the god above the law.

Both leads end up being convicted as a murderer in prison. Both have people from their past that fight for them. Both, although different, give a very similar vibe off. The only difference is that while "Black Out" seems to follow the story of the male lead being wrongly accused of murder, "Prison Playbook" is with him truly being the murderer.

There are gonna be shows that are similar plot-wise but VIBE wise this is what this reminds me of. Extremely suspenseful shows with great casting and captivating mysteries. I'd label them "classics" in the kdrama thriller genre. If you enjoy titles like: "Save Me", "Memories of Murder", shoot- even "True Detective Season 1", and dislike shows that drag, have classic kdrama unrealism, or treat their audience like idiots. YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHOW.
