Li Ni narrowly escapes an ambush and realizes Cui Lin’s sickness must have been to target him. Still at odds, he and Cui Lin part ways. Back at the capital, Wan Niang brings Li Ni’s nanny back from the countryside, in hopes of gaining his affections. Li Lai proposes to the Emperor that he marry Cui Lin to gain control of the Cui army, but things turn ugly when General Cui Yi responds that Cui Lin will choose from the princes whom she will marry.
