What a ride

July 2, 2021

This drama is one of those drama that I must say is not romance base. I like how the drama does not focus on romance part like it is very subtle. I also like how each episode has its own mini story that is pretty much about what happened towards the former life of the spirits. And not gonna lie I was more focus on these mini arcs than the actual drama. Especially towards with the grandma and her ill relationship with her brother due to their fight and misunderstanding towards handling their father’s mental and physical health especially since he is considered as a “burden”. I cried buckets of tears, I couldn’t even pause the screen since I was just way too invested in that.

I definitely recommend this drama so I hope you watch it too

Spirits, Schemes, and Second Chances

Two individuals begin life from opposite ends of the moral spectrum. One is a silver-tongued con man with the unexpected gift of linking with the dead. The other is a cold, unflinching exorcist whose sole mission is to free vengeful spirits trapped between worlds. Fate throws them together, and what begins as mutual disdain gradually transforms into an unlikely alliance. Along the way, they uncover each other’s vulnerabilities, reshape each other’s convictions, and ultimately find a shared calling.

Glamour is never in short supply here, with a parade of pretty actresses and, at the centre, the undeniably handsome Jung Yong Hwa—a leading man who can command the screen and captures your heart with his acting.

The drama is as fascinating as it is outrageous, steeped in the supernatural and the occult. Perhaps it is my age, my faith, or simply the fact that I have been hardened by countless dramas over the years, but I did not find it particularly eerie or frightening. Instead, what kept me hooked was the mystery at the heart of each case—what tragedy had twisted each ghost into a vengeful spirit, and would the medium and exorcist survive the encounter? The exorcisms rarely go as planned, and danger lurks in every ritual.

The storytelling is well-crafted, running on two parallel tracks. One thread follows their episodic cases; the other is a slow-burn mystery surrounding the death of the exorcist’s mother—a tragedy that, shockingly, ties back to the con man. The writer embraces the creative freedom of supernatural fiction, inventing new rules and revelations as the plot demands. With no need to bow to realism, the afterlife becomes an open canvas.

Every good drama needs a villain you love to hate, and this one delivers—a cold-blooded businessman who is less corporate mogul and more gangster in a suit, robbing and crushing anyone in his path. What struck me most was the plight of the vengeful ghosts: trapped in their anguish, unable to right the wrongs done to them. Justice is forever out of their reach, leaving the living to shoulder the burden of fighting on their behalf.

In a sea of dramas obsessed with palace intrigues or time travel, this one stands apart. It is a refreshing, imaginative ride—equal parts mystery, character study, and ghostly adventure. Highly recommended for those seeking something different and delightfully unpredictable.

I started watching SYHH for Jang Na-ra but fell in love with this drama . Jang Na-ra and Jung Young-hwa both had an awe-inspiring presence. The story of Exorcism is what intrigued me. Hong-ji-a (Jang Na-ra) with her bold and dazzling looks when she performs exorcism is something else. You can't say the woman is 40. Such a beauty. As the FL she exorcises spirits and runs a realty firm to help people sell haunted houses. But she is unable to exorcise her mother who died when she was young due to the lack of powerful Psychic (People who serve as medium for unrested spirits and help Exorcist perform exorcism) and her mother still stays with her as an unrested spirit. Oh-in-bam (Jung Young-Hwa) as the ML is one who doesn't believe in spirits but makes a living out of it with his friend by conning people into making them believe that their house is haunted and volunteering themselves to perform exorcism. When both the ML and the FL paths cross during an exorcism it changes their lives totally. That's the gist of the plot.
The reasons for a person to become an unrested spirit after his/her is not fully understood by Hong-Ji-a at first but through her journey with Oh-in-Bam as her Psychic she comes to know a lot about her job that she didn't know for years which also helps her find a solution to exorcise the unrested spirit of her mother. Along their journey, the people they come across during their exorcisms and the peace of mind that they give to the people who were left behind by the dead makes Hong-Ji-a feel her job to be something more meaningful
than just performing exorcisms. Her character development also Oh-in-Bam's who was a fraud, starts to value the lives of people when he sees and experience the memories of the unrested spirits after the exorcism and changes his life for better.
SYHH is an entertaining watch feels a bit of a drag during the first 2 or 3 episodes but only gets better.
This is definitely gonna be on my Re-watch list.
And with the way the show ended there is high hopes for a season 2.

A gem!!

This was really good and fun! Not too creepy or scary at all, and had an amazing pace to be honest. I feel like it has been a good while since I watched a show that did not drag like crazy after episode 10; this one was genuinely fun until the end. I liked the acting – especially Jang Na Ra, she was stellar! I loved her deadpan expression and her deep, husky voice as well as the vulnerability she brought to her character. A real treat! Hated the villain’s acting though, he pissed me off, it felt forced… Overall, really nice – I am pleasantly surprised by this one, it’s a little gem💎.

Chemistry? What are you all on about, this thing played like an ad for Lithium.

It's so difficult to rate things low because I feel like I'm invalidating and insulting the genuine efforts of all the cast and production crew who for sure worked their hardest to create the drama. The problem is... the chemistry between the actors in this drama is terrible. I generally love supernatural dramas, and this one had an interesting and fun plot, so it was disappointing to see everyone walking around like they were on lithium, emotionless and comatose. The sound effects were also terribly done, with poor timing and bizarre elements like the sound of food boiling overlaid on steamless not-boiling soup, or door shutting noises that seem completely mismatched with the door type.

I don't know exactly where it went wrong...I spent a long time trying to figure it out. Regardless of what the actor-specific fanbois/girls say in these reviews here, there was virtually zero connection between any of the actors/actresses. The lead pair might as well have been siblings. Why even write a romance arc if you're gonna have it be acted so listlessly? The female lead and her office manager had terrible chemistry too. Everyone was stiff and distant. It was like watching a table read where each person is in a separate room reading lines to themselves. There was no acting together, they were each of them just delivering monologues in the general direction of other people. I don't know if that's a casting thing, or directing, or acting. The characters just really felt like they wanted to be somewhere else.

The bright points in this drama were the special effects, the fashion, and the action sequences. Those felt really refined and tbh felt a little out of place in the midst of such mediocre lethargic interactions. The special effect in the eyes of the leads, especially the female lead, was absolutely beautiful. The female lead was well styled to accentuate the sort of gothic look they were going for; her hair was perfectly pitch black, her eyes were pitch black, and her outfits pretty much always accented the overall dark and vampy look. The action sequences were fun to watch and well done, the female lead ended up looking like a total badass.

The story itself was fun in concept, but the dialog was so bland and simple that it distracted me a lot from the fun theme. Everything had these weird long pauses inserted. Someone would speak, a few seconds would go by with no even facial expression acknowledgement of comprehension, then someone else would speak, another pause, then the first person would speak. Like were they in separate rooms on Zoom because of COVID? Why was there a delay before almost every line delivered? The dialog and delivery just didn't flow. Everything seemed out of synch and that caused it to drag frequently.

All in all, even though it was a fun theme and visually appealing, I can't justify rating this drama anything but low. Kdramas are well known across the world for their emotional facial expressions and interactions. When you watch a good Kdrama you FEEL what the character is feeling, you connect and relate to them. This drama just doesn't give viewers much to latch on to, and as such it just doesn't stack up well when you compare it to other Kdramas.

This drama was recommended to me by my friend. She told me it was a great k-drama, and I think so too. The way the writers' wrote the story, from the places and how it would start was amazing. I really liked how it was kind of unique from other similar k-drama concepts. The characters was also well-written. The ambiance of the whole drama was kind of mysterious and it gives off a refreshing vibe. Most of k-drama that has a similar concept needed a romance/romantic gestures between the leads. However, this drama, even without those, still gave their all with the production and acting. They made this drama not boring and will keep you watching it as you slowly unravel the mystery behind certain phenomena that happened.

PLEASANT SURPRISE

I have skiipped watching this drama because of the title and subject matter. Not a fan of ghost and spirit stories. After all the dramas about cheating partners (so totally tired of that), gory hospital operation scenes (hate that) and tear jerkers this is completely different. The FL is totally cool, kickass and gorgeous. The ML is adorable and funny. I even did not have to mute the music once which has never happened before for me in a kdrama. The ghost/spirit part of the story was well done and interesting. There were a couple of scenes hat made me teary but also are many scenes where I laughed. I did not give a 10 because I would have liked the ML and FL to have a bit more of a romantic relationship.

The best thing about this show - Jang Na Ra

It was good show. It started off well but kind of lost its thrill. There wasn't any scary moments with different ghosts. I kind of expected more troubles presented by the ghosts of different houses. Had it been there, the entire show would have been spiced up. Even the suspense regarding the background story of the main leads lost its grip in between.

So to summarise I would say that the plot of OK. However, I loved the actors. Everyone played their roles effortlessly. Jang Na Ra was the show stealer. I also liked how the leads were only restricted to be friends. If there would have been romance then the show would have completely lost itself. Jang Na Ra's character was very similar to that of IU's in Hotel Del Luna. Even the scene where Na Ra took out a hairpin to kill the ghost immediately reminded me of IU's scenes in Del Luna. Jung Yong Hwa's acting too was good. I liked the scenes where he would start acting like the last ghost they exorcised due to the memories left by them. Those scenes were funny. The ending pop song was interesting.

You can watch this drama in your free time. Many scenes can be fast forwarded and the drama can be finished in one day.

veryyy interesting. i watch this honestly with no expectation, but it started really good and it makes me intrigue to watch more episodes. rather than seeing than as ghost stories, i see this as the dead last message (?) and how these people in daebak real estate helped those people. almost every episode there will be new stories and it's always interesting to me. i also love hong ji a's character and chemistry with oh in bum. I do wish there's more romance to it, but I'm convincedd they have something hehe. anyways, I enjoyed it, it was good with some part being little bit slow. oh and it does have similarities to hotel del luna, but it has its unique storyline too.

Jang Nara's cool acting skill, stable story development, creative and humane plot

I've watched a lot of Jang Nara's dramas, not because I'm her fan, but because she's famous and appears quite a lot on TV in addition to that the script she chose is also quite good. However, it can be said that I started to love her through this drama. I'm surprised that with such cute face, she can play a cold girl so well. And her movements in the exorcism scenes are beautiful and skillful. Ji Ah is the most charming character with a cold image that I have ever seen on screen. She expresses it very naturally, and handles her coldness well with the childishness of Ji Ah's character in the scenes with her mother. Jang Nara is really amazing in this drama.

As for the stories of exorcisms, they all had a faint taste of everyday life. Most of the regrets come from relationships and feelings between people. Things are easy to come across and so the movie becomes very relatable. The stories are mostly about mother and father love and they are very touching especially the story of Ji Ah discovering the truth behind her mother's soul. Although it's not dramatic, it makes me feel very satisfied.

Overall, the movie is worth watching, good actors, beautiful scenes, good plot ensuring both entertainment and contemplation.

Sell Your Haunted House is about three things:
1. How we deal with grief, and how what we call ghosts are often self-inflicted punishments of our own creation, but also sometimes they can still be the amalgamation of the vengeful spirits of a dozen people murdered by an evil capitalist guy
2. Jang Nara beating up ghosts and looking realy cool while doing so
3. The most interesting character dynamic I've ever seen on screen, like Mulder and Scully if Mulder was the most failwife scammer you've seen
And it does all these things remarkably well, truly an underrated gem
