A Disappointing Dive from a Thrilling Start
"My Lovely Liar" initially captured my attention with its unusual and promising beginning. The first few episodes, filled with hints of suspense and action, led me to believe that I was about to embark on a captivating journey. However, my excitement was short-lived. As the series progressed, it became clear that the narrative was losing its grip. What could have been a multifaceted drama with twists and turns settled into a predictable and uninspiring romance. The depth and intricacy I had hoped for were overshadowed by clichéd romantic tropes that failed to engage or surprise. Furthermore, the character development seemed superficial, leaving me yearning for more substance. The storyline lacked the intensity and richness that the opening episodes promised, making the viewing experience somewhat unsatisfactory.
I can't help but think that the show's widespread appeal might be largely due to the charisma and appearance of the lead actors. Their performances, while commendable, were not enough to salvage the plot's shortcomings. In essence, "My Lovely Liar" felt like a missed opportunity, a series that could have delivered so much more but chose to tread the familiar and overused path of romance without much depth.

Worth a watch.
Overall enjoyable. Cute rom-com with bit of humour, some mystery and some fantasy. A must watch. One of the very few dramas I watched this year. There are times, I felt bored too. But not a big problem.Definitely a bang comeback of KimSoHyun. She is getting more and more adorable. Cutie bunny?❤️.
Although i have never thought this before, but in this drama HwangMinHyun resembled more like ChaEunWoo. Particularly with the mask on.
Perfect couple. Both are unrealistically beautiful. ??
SeoJiHoon. He and kimSoHyun looked good together. I want them as the leads in anther drama. Sorry LeeKangMin. In this drama, it's solhee and doha for me
But I think It could have been better if its 10 or 12 episodes. 16 episodes, felt draggy. I lost interest in later episodes and resumed only after all the episodes aired. So that I could skip some scenes finish it soon.
Like many, I am also surprised.
Expected JoDeukChan to be the culprit from the very start. But this twist is more shocking.
I wanted to hate him. But how could I hate him now.? He was in love.
he didn't plan to kill her from the start. I don't think he used him to get rich by keeping seungJu beside him, but it's the only way, Doha would stay by his side.
JoDeukChan tried to make seungJu and EomJi to breakup by creating misunderstandings.? Well there was any scenes to claim that it was true.
So many repetitive scenes of them drinking as a group only.
But i can't believe ChoiEomJi was toxic until the very end. Her brother fueled her obsession more and more. Although I felt bad for her
family background, that doesn't make her toxic behaviour justifiable. In the end, her fate, she brought it upon herself. JoDeukChan just went there to check up on seungJu. But she ridiculed his feelings for seungJu and Enjoyed it which actually triggered him.
But that also doesn't justify DeukChan too. He Should have surrendered regardless of anything. But He decided to hide it as if He wanted to be by his side by any means..! ? And that's why he hid the murder. I am sure he was also tormented as much as SeungJu. SeungJu clearly did not kill her and felt guilty thinking she killed herself because of him.
Totally different with deukchan. With or without intention, he killed her. And keeping the evidence of murdering someone beside you all the time. Feels more terrifying. 😟 Was there any single moment he felt happiness. Unrequited love, failed marriage, spoilt family member, a successful carrier which he is not sure of when it's all gonna end.
I feel very sad for JoDeukChan. Having Love for someone when it will be unrequited forever. ? He can't even confess his love to the person he likes in the first place. ?? Like, confess and if rejected, get over with it! ☹️
Syaon. Although i disliked her at first. But came to like her a but in last couple episodes.
Jo Jaechan is just spoilt brat.
I really hate SolHee's mother and SeungJu's mother. Both are toxic parents.! ??
And I absolutely hate that they made solHee's mother look innocent. She was going around Swindling people. She even did it to her daughter all the time. 😡😡
I am really happy that finally doha's mother is ruined. She is too cunning and selfish.😡
Solhee' father. It would have been better, if there is not a character of him in the first place. Like he died early or found another woman. Him ending up with MokSollHee' mother felt rubbish. 🥴 The actor who played the father, I recently watched him in Miraculous Brothers and thought he got another good role again. But he should have rejected this one.
I thought 3 men liked the same girl at first and got entangled somehow. ?

Fluffy romance but thriller part was quite disappointing
The drama is a decent watch if you like fluffy romance. The ML and FL are cute and very complementary in their personalities. They meet again and start to learn about each other, trust each other and the dating stage drags to arrive but there is obviously something between them. SML is not too clingy, and he has his priorities. SFL is childish so no worries from this side. There are also 3 secondary romances that were not so interesting for me, but I believe that some others will enjoy them. The thriller part is interesting and intriguing at first. Because there are little infos and the mystery has huge consequences on the ML. But when the truth starts to unveil, the victim gained little sympathy but more pity from me. The final twist is surprising because it follows an unexpected and unusual path for kdramas but it also looks cheap and lazy writing. To put all this on one sided feelings and accidents…
The drama suffered from the characterization of the ML. He was way to nice always saying sorry and full of good intentions… to the point he looked bland to me. He also had little good impact on the others and he barely contributed to the solving of the mystery. I loved the FL. She brought light and fun to the drama with a great personality dealing with ML, SML, clients, her parents, employees, rival… SML Is my fav ML. I liked how he dealt with his personal issue and how he did his job despite the uneasy situation. The culprit was also a complex and interesting character with good intentions and very bad actions.
Overall, it was ok but wish the ML was stronger or maybe it was the lead male actor. His acting was below par compared to the other lead actors and especially the SM lead actor. It showed. But I wish him the best like to the others. 7.5/10

Masterpiece at first and what the hell happened ?
Firstly to be fair the concept is goodFirst&second episodes where phenomenal and started with nostalgic feeling of 2016 era, this feeling continues till episode 6.
after the sixth episode… omg they literally dragging the ML story and focusing on his storyline !! while forgetting the FL ability!! they could make good stories by using her ability …
but, I love both actors and their chemistry is topnotch that why I will continue this kdrama and pray to NOT waste FL ability anymore and STOP dragging the CASE bcz this a rom-com not crime drama writers so PLEASE stop this nonsense.

Cute and interesting.
Been a fan of Kim So Hyun for long and I know her capabilities as an actress, my first thought is that I'll watch the drama because of KSH but after watching the first five episode I've come to realize that the drama itself is quite interesting to the fact that I've been frustrated waiting for the last 2 episode's release. There are some storyline flaws but its not that noticeable, the characters acting were quite good though i felt sometimes that theres something lacking(justmy opinion).
the soundtrack is quite good and the story progression is also commendable for it will make you feel a bit uninterested at first until you find yourself hooked with it.
Can't wait for the next episode.

Exciting and sweet
This drama is so exciting, I can't stand it anymore, always these breaks in between, 5 days off, you should really binge watch it. I'm so curious......I find so many suspicious there (the mother, she never shows, that she loves her son and does everything for her politician career / the CEO and his brother / the brother of
the ex-girlfriend who is aggressive and violent)
But I really like how great the FL + ML are. The act with each other so honestly. This is so different from all these other K-Dramas where one misunderstanding follows the next.

I loved ‘My Lovely Liar’.
Hwang Min-hyun (Minhyun) singer/songwriter of the K-pop group NU’EST and actor from the big hit Korean Drama ‘Alchemy of Souls’ (which followed Live On) is putting out only his third drama. The early buzz is that this drama will make him a household name. It is fortunate that he gets the main lead with the little star maker, Kim So Hyun (Love Alarm). She is a former Korean child star, who can do little wrong in picking good Korean dramas and making her costars shine. ‘My Lovey Liar’ got off to a slow start, because this star power rich Korean drama needs a lot of set-up time. However, the chemistry between the two leads took off all of a sudden by the end of episode 2, heating up the place. I loved My Lovely Liar and I viewed this drama real-time.The drama is quaint and engaging. It is about a young lady who can hear lies and she has turned this into a profitable business. Her love interest is a music genius with a mysterious and dark past. There are a few surprises in the story, which takes the action in surprising directions. Give this one a try.

A Human Liar Detector and her Musical Genius Find Love In the Mist of Lies and Crime
This started off interesting. There were some entertaining “cases of the week” where the FL had to decipher lies from truth. I like how she used this “gift” to make a great living. I also liked the music business storyline with the ML (Dong Ha). Dong Ha, living a secretive life due to his shady past was quite intriguing as well.It was nice to see him become human again once he moved outside of the city amongst people who didn’t know that he was famous and his relationship with the FL was cute. However, this series started to loose momentum about halfway through.
Though the ML/FL looked good together they didn’t have any chemistry. Both were kind of flat. Though Min-hyun is doing a good job at spreading his wings into acting, he needs more work in order to become a believable ML as there was hardly any charisma exuding from him here, and perhaps that was due to the lack of chemistry with the FL.
I was expecting more to happen with the ML’s life once things started to come to a head about his past but besides a few paparazzi snapping pictures of him as he left a hospital that was it. The media who’d been relentlessly trying to track him down at the start of the series seems to have gone on holiday. There was virtually no impact to his songwriting career. The mom’s burgeoning political career was thrown in for good measure to add drama that was essentially window dressing, but not much happened with that either. Honestly, I didn’t think that storyline was needed. It served no purpose except to try and make the audience think the ML had indeed killed his ex, when we all knew that was not where the story was going.
The FL skills did come in handy in clearing the ML’s name. But then once it was obvious, he was innocent the show went from somewhat entertaining to downright boring. They really could’ve tightened the story threads and ended this series in 10 or 12 episodes. Unfortunately, they took it to 16 episodes, with the last 3-4 being pointless. Those episodes were so boring I ended up fast-forwarding through most of them.
Despite the lack of story, the ending was nice. Those who are fans of the main couple will be happy. Is this worth watching? It’s one of those shows where I think viewers will fall heavily across all spectrums as to whether they liked this, hated it or feels it okay. This wasn’t the worst series I’ve ever seen, but it wasn’t really good either. Just okay. Would I rewatch. No.

My Lovely Liar
Sol Hee was the female lead who heard lies and came across Do Ha who does not lie. Sol Hee never became whiny or annoying. I loved her interactions with all the cast. Her friendship with the tarot reader & her bodyguard was so sweet & funny. I even loved when she had scenes with the second male lead who was such a cutie. I will admit they would have been great together, but I was firmly on the male lead side. I love how the SL never became hateful or obsessive instead he applied the concept of "if you love her, let her go" to his situation. I really hope I see more of the actor. As for Do Ha, I felt so sorry that he was a victim of so many people being so obsessed with him... all he did was be kind, caring & handsome while minding his business.Of course, I picked this drama up for Minhyun because that is my WannaOne/NU'EST guy & I definitely inhaled My Lovely Liar. It was super easy to binge. The unique plot caught my attention right from the beginning. So, add the unexpectedly amazing chemistry of the leads, humor, great supporting cast friends, and OST with the twists and it is a great overall drama. Also, I did not feel as though I was left hanging by the ending because the ending was so complete and satisfactory!
Minhyun reminds me so much of Eunwoo with his looks. He gave me my much-needed Eunwoo fix, but he & Kim So Hyun were so great together.
Definitely recommend 8.5/10

So much potential, so much waste.
I'm going to keep this review short but also spoil some of the stuff, so please beware. This isn't a completely bad show, it's just horribly written and many of the scenarios make very little sense. Let me say this, the FL has a future. She is destined for stardom, maybe not on the big screen, but she's got what it takes to be a memorable tv actress. Love Alarm is by far the most horrendous k-drama of the past decade, but the actress continues to impress, no matter how horribly written her character is or the plot itself.
My problems with Lovely Liar lie within the plot itself and the chemistry of the characters. The ML is new. If you have ever watched alchemy of souls, you'll notice that he looks at the floor a lot in a gaze or glance. This is not by design, but probably just something he was told to do. He's a singer, so acting is not his forte. He does the same thing in Souls, and he had very little lines. In Lovely Liar, he's also a quiet and an almost introverted character. So, I'll cut him some slack, but there are so many plot holes. Why didn't he realize that his ex was being abused by her father? They were dating for two years in high school, and he never once met her father? He never knew she was dirt poor? So much of that makes no sense given how close they were, or at least how close they appeared to be. I can understand why her brother made her believe that the ML was her only dream and perhaps her ticket out of the hell she was in, but for the ML to be completely oblivious is just incredibly questionable. Next, why did he tell his mother that he killed his ex? I can understand that he was traumatized, but if you follow the story, he's a very bad liar. So why would he confess to something he didn't do and completely ruin his mother's life by forcing her to make a deal with a police chief? Yes, what she did was wrong, but she was trying to protect her son. But why did he confess to something that wasn't true and completely throw his life along with hers under the bus? It makes absolutely no sense. And was the perp gay? If so, why did he marry and have kids? How did he become a CEO in his 20s??? LOL, you can see how silly this gets. Also, his ex's brother is a complete psychopath, and it is understandable to some extent, given that his sister was actually murdered. But the guy legit almost killed another person and stabbed him. Yet somehow, he was able to walk out of jail, get release and be at his sister's funeral after her body was recovered. I cannot make this stuff up. And while these issues are some of the biggest, these are just the tip of the iceberg. One final straw for me was that the FL somehow managed to avoid an explosion while standing 5 feet from it and also lose her powers of lie detection. Again, I cannot make this stuff up.
Granted, I'm not expecting the writing and the plotlines to be perfect. But please, do not belittle the intelligence of your audience. It's 2023, you cannot create characters with distinct personalities and just have them do 180's to make suspense. You cannot bypass realism for comic book plot armor. You cannot ditch logic and expect the audience to be captivated by inconsequential drama.
Anyhoo... I'll leave it at that. But don't say I didn't warn you. If you still want to see this drama, by all means. If there's one thing I can say again, is that the FL is a pure delight to watch. Her character here is flawed and she has very little to work with, but she is far and away the best reason to watch.
