You Who Came from the Stars is sweet, funny, intense, engaging, and of course, has my favorite oppa, could I ask for anything more? Nope. Even the non-stereotypical ending was so appropriate and satisfying. It is important to note that this show will never insult your intelligence and will keep you entertained through all the episodes. If you want a fun ride that doesn’t get too cliché, sit down, grab some popcorn, and watch Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun entertain you for hours and hours.

Characters: Kim Soo Hyun does a remarkable job as Do Min Joon, an alien stranded on earth. He decides to cut himself off from humans as much as possible as helping the humans is what got him stranded on Earth in the first place. His new next-door neighbor is Chun Song Yi, the obnoxious actress and celeb played by Jun Ji Hyun. These two not only have chemistry but are super fun fun fun to watch together.

The supporting characters are just as flushed out and real with Lee Hui Kyung (played by my oppa Park Hae Jin) as the rich wanna-be fiancé, Yoo Se Mi is the not-so nice friend, and Lee Jae Kyung is the psychopath I love to hate. The other characters like Song Yi’s mother and brother and her friend (the comic book store owner with funny minions) are just outright hilarious and add very nicely to the story.

Storyline: The story is about a 400+ year old alien that is stuck on earth. Three months before finally having the ability to leave, he meets Chun Song Yi who repels him and fascinates him at the same time. The relationship between the two characters ranges from hilarious to heart wrenching. I loved every moment the two were on the screen together (the beach scene being the very best…both funny and sad).

The character of Do Min Joon was so interesting (he is a bit brooding and I do love those brooding males). His experiences over four hundred years in Korea were fascinating and illustrated well why he was the way he was. I loved that the role of Chun Song Yi was more humorous than “beautiful.” The fact that they made her beauty as part of the joke, made it even better. This is one of the best Korean female character portrayals I have watched. I was never bored with Chun Song Yi.

The psychotic Lee Jae Kyung played by Shin Sung Rok was really good. He was scary from the very beginning. I read that Park Hae Jin was originally up for the character of the evil brother but I’m glad he played the brother Lee Hui Kyung instead. At first his character seemed frivolous but then really turned out to be a very well-balanced character and I have to say, I loved it when he stood up to his father and his brother. His performance in this show is another reason why he remains my very favorite Korean actor.

If you are looking for an entertaining show with exciting characters and not a whole lot of murder and mayhem (well…there is a little), then You Who Came from the Stars is a great show to binge watch. Oh, and don’t forget to watch the epilogue. If you can’t find it with the episode, it can be found on YouTube. I promise you will be less satisfied with the show if you miss the epilogue.

This was my first KDrama and this was what set off my obsession with Korean Dramas. The hook of the show is the story hands down. Right from episode 1 to the very end, you stayed glued to the screen because of the way the story flows and the plot develops.

Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) who is an alien has been stranded off on earth since decades. He has led a relatively low key life, never drawing too much attention towards himself and his alien powers. This has not only kept him away from the public eye, but has also made him lead a pretty lonely life. He misses his home and wants to go back to his own planet especially because there is nothing tying him to stay on earth. Enters Chun Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun), an eccentric and lively top rated actress whose life is always displayed out in the public with not a single moment of privacy. Despite all that, she is extremely lonely at heart. When the two meet, spark fly and despite the denial of the obvious chemistry between the two, the come close to heal each other's loneliness.

The story is set with a comical background with some heavy moments. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry and it will make you wonder about a lot of things.

Underwhelming, but had its cute moments

I wonder if I'd have enjoyed this more if I'd watched it before I saw Legend of the Blue Sea and My Amazing Boyfriend. LOTBS was so similar to this one in its parallel characters/storylines, while My Amazing Boyfriend (China) is based on the same alien premise (even though the plot is different)—and so everything that happened in this show felt unsurprising.

I really liked Song-Yi. She's advertised as arrogant, and the first episode makes her come across as dumb, but throughout the drama she was surprisingly able to think on her feet, not to mention that she was an absolute SAVAGE, which I loved. But one huge downside for her was that SHE HAD NO ACTIVE ROLE IN THE ACTION PLOTLINE. This meant that everything dangerous and adventurous was happening without her knowledge, and her role was reduced to the girl who pined for Do Min-Joon and needed saving from the bad guys. I had been really looking forward to how her badass personality would help scheme against the antagonists, and it was really disappointing when she didn't at all, and instead spent all her time freaking out about Min-Joon.

In fact, overall I felt like the action plot was kind of underwhelming? The climax didn't really feel like the climax to me and it was solved pretty easily, especially since our main female lead never really got involved.

Do Min-Joon and Song-Yi had really adorable and heart-fluttering moments, which I loved, but when it came to the more melodramatic and serious parts of the romantic plot, I found myself annoyed and thinking that the characters were overreacting and crying too much. Good acting, but unnecessary. This is especially because it felt a little repetitive when a lot of the romantic plot was Min-Joon not being honest about his situation—understandable, but frustrating to watch.

For the second leads: I wouldn't exactly say I had second lead syndrome, but he was such an intriguing character—more intriguing than the main leads, and I felt so bad I wished he would end up with the girl because he treated Song-Yi so damn well. Se-Mi was a different story; I was constantly annoyed by her presence and honestly, I couldn't see the point of her other than to be the annoying third wheel. I was more intrigued by that bookstore lady.

Not up to the hype

It wasn't as good as I've heard, but it wasn't terrible. I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't just watched a show with a similar story (My Girlfriend is an Alien). Though the tones were very different, I enjoyed watching the other one a lot more. Maybe because I needed a (mostly) lighthearted comedy. This one seemed overly dramatic and too drawn out for my liking. The standard 16 episodes would have been enough.

This drama has a fresh, intriguing story; it's not just your ordinary rom com, it also has elements of melodrama, thriller and sci fi. The mix of genres was done expertly. As I watched this I got distinct echoes of Goblin here and there, and this was certainly not unpleasant.
The story was executed very well, the love story is exquisite, the way it begins and progresses is all very satisfying, the ending is very well done too. I must point out though that there were certain plot elements such as the mechanism of Do Min Joon's ability to return to earth that were not explained satisfactorily, also the fact that kissing made him ill, that was never explained enough and we're never told whether it was resolved in the end, and for that matter how will they have kids if he can't even kiss her without falling ill? anyway I mean to say that these plot holes were slightly irritating but I was able to suspend logic and enjoyed the show very much.

The casting and acting in this show is excellent, I believe that's it's main advantage even more than the story itself. the main leads are spot on, Kim Soo Hyun was suitably grave and stuffy with flashes of childish pettiness here and there which is absolutely fitting for a 400 year old alien who has had very few human relationships and no romantic ones.
Jun Ji Hyun for me was the star of this show, why isn't she in more dramas? She is absolutely perfect in this role, I'll even venture to say that Cheon Song Yi gives my all time favourite kdrama female lead Kim Sam Soon a very serious run for her money. I enjoyed her acting so much, her vulnerability, her maniacal egotism which reminded me of Dokko Jin was hilarious to watch; I enjoyed all the little monologues she had whether internal or external, I especially loved the way Cheon Song Yi had many moments where she displayed a great depth of feeling, when she expressed how much she loves Do Min Joon either to himself or to other people, she manages to transcend her goofiness and articulates her feelings in the most mature, insightful and heartfelt manner.

The second leads are also very good, I find Yoo In Na almost the same in every role she plays, she's a good actress but I don't see a lot of range in her abilities, maybe that's why she's usually the second lead.
Park Hae Jin on the other hand is a revelation, I've never seen him in anything else so I was very pleased to discover him here. His portrayal of Lee Hui Kyung is very good, for once the second male lead serves to drive the story forward and not to put spanners in the works just because.
His evil older brother was also well acted and was suitably villainish.
The supporting cast was great, Song Yi's family is well portrayed, the detectives are good, and Se Mi's mother also adds a nice touch to the story by providing a contrast to Song Yi's mother.
Overall the casting is a 10 for me.

The music is not prolific, there's just one song that stands out, but that doesn't affect anything for me because my attention was always focused on the story.

Rewatch value is 8, I'm not big on rewatching shows so this is very high coming from me.

Overall is 9, this is a great drama and I only regret that I didn't watch it sooner.

I basically watched this becoz my friends suggested it
And i felt like it was really good. Not the best drama i have seen , but something that would be memorable to me. It has a very deep storyline. I felt like the message which is portrayed is that people can love each other irrespective of who they are.

The journey of Doh Min-Joon and Chun Song-Yi is intriguing and worth watching. Kim Soo-Hyun's portrayal of being an alien was so perfect. He was looking so cute while being enormously handsome. Jun Ji-Hyun also did so good at playing the troublesome actress always being in trouble and having Doh Min-Joon to her rescue. And also i was kind of annoyed by Chun Song Yi's mom but in the end i came to like her.

Now about the OSTs , i am not a big fan of it . Yes , it's good but i didnt like it much. It mostly depends on personal preference

Overall its very good and worth watching in my opinion.

Cute story with very engaging leads.

Cute story with very engaging leads. Just don't focus too hard on the plot which has a few holes in it. Jun Ji Hyun is gorgeous and absolutely delightful. Her ability to play goofiness and physical comedy is reminiscent of Sandra Bullock at the same age. Kim Soo Hyun plays quiet strength and vulnerability very well too. The script is by Park Ji Eun who also wrote "The Legend of the Blue Sea" and "Crash Landing on You", and it shares a lot of the feel-good elements of those. Definitely worth a watch!

This drama was amazing, a tear jerker and very entertaining!
The acting for each role is great, you can really tell that all the actors fit their character pretty well.

I liked this drama because:
1) The cast; Mainly Kim Soo Hyun and Jun ji-hyun. I have been a Kim soo hyun fan since "Dream High" so that's how I found out about this drama. I also loved the actor who played the villain in this drama (Shin Sung Rok) because he portrayed the antagonist very well.

2) The story; I do admit that this plot was a unique one. For the people who read the summary and are skeptical, DON'T BE. At first glance, you might find the plot weird and not your style (trust me, that's what I thought), but once you see the first episode and keep going on, it will definitely exceed your expectations.

I didn't like this drama because:
uh...... I can't really find a reason not to like it. I do think that it has a bit too much of crying, but then again, all kdramas have tons of crying. It's just personal preference, though I just feel awkward when i see someone cry.

Hopefully this helped

Just beautiful!

This is one show that made me laugh, then cry, then swoon, then fall in love and dreamed the impossible.

Good looking cast of characters who were so into their role that you believed that they were exactly who they were portraying on the small screen.

And the lipstick that sold out every time they put it on the market. Jun Ji Hyun is exceptionally pretty with her flawless skin and no make up look that I you can just stare at her on screen for hours on end. Kim So Hyun makes man bangs look so devastatingly handsome and IMHO the best looking crying man ever!

There is no one else can pull of the role of Cheong Song-Yi like Gianna Jun could for " My love from Another star. Kim Soo hyun was amazing as Do min Joon. The couple was a perfect match for the characters. The story-line falls along with fantasy of Alien from who falls in-love with an Earthling. It has a touch of " Super Man," feeling along with a touch of " Iron man." He has powers, but he cannot fly. He from another planet his he has a krypton that is tricky to work around so he need to careful. I won't want to give too much away in my reviews. However I do have to say this is a drama that you would want to slowly watch because when you get to the ending you don't want it to end at all. You want a few more episodes of happy ending.

Some fans didn't care for the ending because it didn't seem complete. I think it was great it left the audience to imagine they are can work around this tricky situation. I would re-watch this drama if I had someone who has never seen it before because it was so good the first time I don't need to do it all over again, if you know what I mean? I have to say I would recommend anybody who loves Korean Drama this is on the top of my list for 2014. I can't wait for their next collaboration. If they have another one.

When my friend first raved about this drama, I was very hesitant. I usually avoid anything to do with sci- fi or aliens. But after she kept nagging at me to watch I decided to try it.

Eventually it became one of my favourite dramas ever! Story wise the drama did have some cliches but the writers did know how to re-write the cliches in a way that was new and fresh using humour and the unique concept of falling in love with an alien.

What sold it for me were the actors, they were refreshing and made each of the characters have a lot of depth. Before this drama I had only ever seen Kim Soo Hyun as the country boy Samdong in Dream High and thought I would find it hard to see him as a manly, cold but good looking alien. Watching this drama made me forget his previous role and his character drew me in. Jun Ji Hyun played her role as a hallyu star in a way which made her seem absolutely crazy but still relatable and loveable. Whilst some may think that her character was too over the top, you have to remember that the drama is about an alien falling in love with a human. So yes there are other aspects that will make it slightly 'out there' but the writers worked hard to still make the realistic and relatable.

Initially I did think that Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun did look slightly strange together, like an aunt and her nephew. But the chemistry won me over and pretty soon I was rooting the two on! :)
Even the villain was great! Just the right among of evil without going too overboard. Shin Sung Rok definitely made me hate him in a good way and I was impressed with his acting skills.
One thing I will say is that Yoo In Naa's character did not have as much of a development that I would have liked.

Music wise, there was nothing too special or memorable. The songs were nice to listen to at the time but I wouldn't find myself listening to the OST again and again.

As for whether I would rematch this again… I already have… 3 times! The humour, the characters and the romance definitely are the things that always make me rematch this drama. This drama is always one that I miss and get a 'drama heartache' because I love it so much. Watch it guys! You won't regret it!

Not the review you'd be hoping for...

It's been years since I watched this series, and it was the second kdrama I've watched. However, nothing has changed about how I felt about this series.

I'm not one to write reviews, so don't expect much from it haha
But in all honesty, the series was a little disappointing and overrated in my opinion. Especially with how it ended.
Though I may be going against the majority of those who loved the series, I was just not sure what the hypes about..nor did I know what to feel about the series, but I really tried to love it.

All in all, the series was alright, it started off great, but it lost me further down the road, and I'm one who tried to finish whatever it is I'm watching, so made it to the end of the series.
I love the lead actors, but their characters weren't the best..I felt no chemistry between the leads.
Wouldn't really watch it again though nor recommend it.

*SPOILER ALERT*
Was disappointed at the end.
I understand that he couldn't stay on Earth because he was dying but like why put the girl in such a situation when he knows he could outlive her or like have to leave?
And she's just waiting for him to come back and she'll never know when he actually can but when he does he decided to pop up to put on a jacket on her because he thought she was showing too much skin and LEFT?! And that's how it ENDED?!
Enough said.
