Youth of May

When romance is thrown in the turmoils of history.
Both dramas start like your typical romcom, boy meets girl, girl dislikes boy... (Granted, in My Dearest the FL is wearing a hanbok while in Youth of May, she's running around in jeans.)

But then, history with an H intervenes. For Youth of May, the dictature and the shadow of the Gwangju massacre are looming over the happiness of our protagonists. For My Dearest, it's the Qing invasion that sweeps them away. So, if you like a *somewhat* realistic period piece that isn't all political and that still has time for some cutesie lovey dovey stares between the lead, these dramas are for you.

In both you have the perfect balance of lightheartedness and Melo

It has some particular things in similar. At first, we were shown a corpse with the FL stuff they found with the body. This makes us wonder is that the FL or not? It's kinda angst like that. The ML love the FL very much that they ain't scared of anything, while the FL take some more time to be honest with their feelings. The thing is, camellia is bright and fluff and comedic also a murder mystery in modern era while youth of may is more mellow, tragic, and involve real history thats set in 80s.

Both oasis and youth of may follow the same time period. The struggles, the political movement and the angst

100 Days of Deception is more action oriented while Youth of May is more focused on the slice of life but they share a similar vibe. The main leads meet and are inexplicably attracted to each other from the start, a love story in the midst of turbulent times.
Things in common:
- Revolution movement neither of the main leads are initially invested in but they all get involved eventually
- ML from a powerful family and privileged background
- FL lying about her identity
But most importantly, they both invoke similar feelings when watching.

-Star-crossed lovers
-Oh Man Seok's character again tries to separate the said star-crossed lovers, by playing a vile, creepy, villainous govt. agent all over again.
-A+ level of acting, will spot some veterans in both the shows.
-Accented/ Dialect Korean: YoM (Jeolla Satoori) versus CLoY (NK accent). Sounds *very* different from the Dialect spoken in Seoul (90% of k-dramas)
-Vintage fashion!!! <3 <3
-Amazing Soundtrack!
-Backdrop of Military Dictatorship: YoM (during the 80's in South Korea) and CLoY (present day, in North Korea). So lots of police patrolling, small-town/ semi-urban settings, curfew, random 'kidnappings' by govt. agents, etc.
-The MLs have a political/ arranged marriage planned for (aka, has a 'fiancée') but not interested in her at all.
-The FLs are pretty much 'stuck' and they wish to get out of the situation/ country: YoM (the FL wishes to leave SK to study abroad for Germany, but can't) & CLoY (FL is stuck in NK trying to get back home to SK)
-Both 'romances' have a tacit understanding that their togetherness is only a matter of time before they have to be separated (angst... yes)
-Overall vibe of CLoY is rom-com with angsty, serious melo in parts, whereas YoM is a melo sprinkled with sweet, vintage romance. Lands differently, but overall... very similar vibes.
-While CLoY has Seri's ducklings (the 4 adorable NK soldiers)... YoM has the two baby-brothers, and the two nice soldiers who bring in the cute :D

Tragic Love: Both dramas explore heartbreaking love stories. In “Autumn in My Heart,” childhood friends Joon-suh and Eun-suh are separated due to family circumstances, only to reunite years later. Similarly, “Youth of May” portrays the love between Hae-ryong and Myeong-hee during the turbulent events of the Gwangju Uprising.

Fate and Coincidence: Both dramas emphasize fate and coincidence. In “Autumn in My Heart,” the characters’ lives intersect unexpectedly after years apart. In “Youth of May,” Hae-ryong and Myeong-hee meet during a time of political upheaval, highlighting the role of destiny.

Emotional Intensity: Both series evoke strong emotions. “Autumn in My Heart” is known for its tear-jerking moments, while “Youth of May” also tugs at viewers’ heartstrings with its poignant storytelling.

Both involve a sort of "forbidden love" and also have a very tragic romance plot, although Youth of May conveyed it more (personal opinion).

They are both extremely sad watches (get tissues). Youth of May and The Classic are both set in the past. Youth of may was set in the 1980s and the Classic starts in 1968. Similar love stories

both take place in the 19s and had a tragic ending. both couple met because the FL friend ask them for help (in a different way)

Base of both stories r same ,both are historical.both movies depicted the result of gwangju incident on people n a person in particular.both r tragic

Lee Dohyun and Go Minsi both act in these dramas together. However, in Sweet Home, they have a sibling relationship while in Youth of May, they are in a romantic relationship.

similarities:
1. both of these dramas take place in the past, around the same time give or take a few years. Love Rain takes place earlier in time (1970s) and Youth of May in 1980.
2. the love between the leads is deep, unexpected and life altering.
3. separation of the leads due difficult circumstances. the lovers never forgot each other till the present day, even though they have been separated for decades.
4. tragic ending - unfulfilled love.
