A real slow burn

I see a bunch of comments saying that this drama barely has romance in it and in my opinion, those people could not be more wrong. This drama is EXACTLY what I want out of my romance — quiet contemplation, and the ultimate slow burn of two people who just love spending time with each other and don't realize it's love until it's too late. I just loved the vibes of this entire show; it's quiet but bubbly and comforting, and there are characters that make bad decisions, but they're not portrayed as cartoonishly evil.

With that being said, however, I do wish this drama had subverted some of the cliches instead. Towards the end, there are miscommunication tropes that were frustrating; I prefer my romance to burn slowly as a result of "it was never the right time," rather than because a third character did something underhanded, and they also ended up doing the time jump reunion, which I always just hate, because it feels lazy and unearned. Without this part, I would've probably given this drama an 8. Still, the episodes before this are fantastic.

Slow burn

Given that this was a jdrama, i was crossing my fingers at the first ep to not have a naive asf to the point of annoying FLs and a two dimensional script. since i personally had bad expeirence w japanese romcom. But this one did not disappoint. I genuinely liked the FL, the ML and many other supporting characters, i loved how the couple grew together as one and also grew individually. I really adored their cute moments together in the house, it felt so comforting and idk nostalgic? Summary is i really shipped them although there was no skinship like at all, a little skinship would've made them perfect yknow? But i don't mind much. I literally squealed when they held hands, literally.
BUT the last ep or two GOSH were they frustrating, i literally yelled at the screen a couple times. I wanted to open some of those characters especially our dear lovely MCs like a book and wanted to read their thoughts that lead up to making decisions that extremely frustrating. Like what novel reasons ya'll had to be doing whatever tf ya'll did?? Till now idk.
And as the title says, this is slowburn like super slow and as i mentioned barely any skinship, you won't even knowat what point they liked each other and i bet they don't either. Also the romance isn't like the super main focus so if u want a show thats wholly only romance this is not it.
Anyways, overall this is lovely, its my fav jdrama as of now, really cute n wholesome nice nice.

All is good until episode 7

Well, I really enjoy the show until episode 7 when the main leads held hand at twilight. But everything fell apart afterwards as it seems that the writer just want to make the plot draggy by putting a lot of obstacles between the main couple that prevented them from really becoming together. And I hated how they had to villianize the lesbian SFL by making her jealous and plotting against the main couple. Do we really have to do this?? But Ren Nagase was really bf material and totally green flag. I love his chemistry with Sodamame. The FL also did a good job acting her character and totally convinced me that she is a true country bumpkin. But, I am not very convince with the plot how Sodamame career was quite smooth sailing and the boss returning her ideas after he stole from her is really unrealistic imo. The stealer of the show was the OST and the background soundtrack. I think its really good compared to other Jdramas I watched. Personally, I would only rewatch till episode 7 if I had to, to save myself from being frustrated with the plot.

This drama is like a breath of life

I actually ignored the drama at first because I thought it would be slow and boring but I was wrong I was definitely wrong what a drama tells us how we should never stop chasing our dreams even if you have none just search for it you will surely find it I liked how the fl started as goofy character and ended like that I liked how the writer didn't make her character depressing or sad in the name of making her mature I liked how she was wearing colourful clothes in the start and even in the end and this is nice to see a calm and cool ml he had great personality liked both the leads the plot and their character development if this was a kdrama it would have gotten at least 8.6 or 8.7 idk why people on the mdl rate Japanese dramas so low this is one heck of gem and in slice of life genre even beats some popular kdramas of the same genre

Enjoyed it so much

I enjoyed it so much. If looking for a calm and warm drama , then it's for you. I like everyone in this drama. This is my first time seeing Suzu acting, and I immediately fell in love with her acting. She is so good . think I will go to watch her other works.
Ren also wasn't bad, he did a great job
This drama give such a gentle and warm feeling, you can watch it while drinking a hot tea in a winter night.
This what I felt while watching this drama.
Don't miss this drama . I sure that I will watch it again.

Quite a realistic drama & still an engaging show <3

The first half of the drama is worth 8.5/10, but the second half makes it deserves 9.5/10 from me. My highlight is: characters' & plot's dynamics are so real!

- FL is pretty as she should as a lead, but in a much more down to earth style (messy hair, casual outfits all the time, sometimes with that mismatched color/style, with the same shoes, bags, hair style, almost everyday), she just looks like an ordinary girl, like us. She's cheerful, likes teasing Oto, but sometimes she uses her cheerfulness as a seal for what actually is in her mind, and it's hurt to witness that throughout the drama.
- The characters' dynamics , which shows us that we are just a human with all of its complexity, sometimes we can be kind, sometimes we 'have to' hurt others simply to survive for ourselves.
- I usually don't really enjoy romance with too many misunderstandings. Usually misunderstandings come along with bickering couple and it's stressful to watch. But this one, i just can't hate it. Oto and Soramame are still kind & respect each other (with all of their assumptions towards each other, and that made me cry even more).
- I can say it has only slight romance, bcoz what we see more is how Oto and Soramame survive & fight for their own life, like no time for love. And it's what makes this drama more realistic and down to earth.
- Not just the character's dynamic, but the storyline is also unpredictable, unexpected. It reminds me to always believe in God's plan for each of us :)))))

Exceptional, by Japanese drama standards

There are several Japanese dramas that I have started and left after a couple of episodes, some I’ve managed to finish as well, but no Japanese series has made me feel so many emotions as this one. What a beautiful story, it makes you laugh, fall in love, suffer heartbreaks, feel a sense of longing, dream, work hard for dreams, and then puts it all together with a very sweet happy ending. I loved both lead actors, and a special mention to the agent at the music label, the landlady and the pattern maker colleague of the FL, they all made the show worth watching. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more shows by these actors, and seriously, more shows like these would change the way people think about Japanese shows! A show worth watching, not to be missed for fans of sweet romances.

It was fresh for first 7 episodes but disappointed with last 3 eps

It is a good fresh story but I am disappointed with the ending. I think the writer tried to add drama in the last few episodes and it backfired. Just to add some "spice" in the ending the effect of the first 7 eps was undone. I was hoping for a fresh kind of ending. The acting was nice. The character of Soramame is refreshing and bright. The Oto character though should have had a little dynamic side to it. It was a little too dull, though Soramame character compensated for the dullness of Oto. The career side of Soramame seemed a little far-fetched as well. A struggle makes the character more relatable and increases its impact on audiences.

Soulmates & misunderstandings

What I admire about japanese romcoms is the way they manage to create a whole long drama without one really bad character. I find it amazing. This cute little drama is such an uplifting, nice, optimistic watch.

The story follows Soramame and Oto who keep bumping into each other until they end up living in the same boarding house. Their connection, mutual respect, sincerity and friendship set them on the right path of professional success which unfortunately pushes the private life out of the way. After success tears them apart they meet again three years later.

The main characters are sweet and cute and have great chemistry. She is always looking on the bright side of life in spite of a number of mishaps. He is fascinated by her optimism which rubs off on him a bit helping him break the creative block. There is a cast of colourful support characters: the landlady enjoying the presence of youngsters in her house, the music producer, flamboyant and king, the fashion designer who almost caves in to temptation....

Though it is a romance, this drama touched superficially upon some interesting topics: child abandonment, creativity and inspiration, cutthroat entertainment and fashion businesses.

The drama is pretty to watch, the music is nice, pulling on heartstrings, the writing is solid as is the acting. For almost 8 episode it was a fairy tale about two lost puppies trying to find their way in this big bad world. And then suddenly, they became adults and everything changed. It was not a fairy tale anymore because the real life interfered, no matter how unrealistic (all of a sudden she discovers herself having a huge talent for creating clothes and after one month is better then a seasoned fashion designer?!?!?). The main couple spent most of the series circling around each other, pining and wondering. And even though I did not mind it most of the time, it became annoying towards the ending with unnecessary misunderstandings and a three year time jump. But they fixed everything and came back to the fairy tale territory with the post credit scene of the last episode and with that everything bitter I felt, just vanished. A lovely drama

Cliffhanger

Cliffhanger!!!

Putting aside my problems with this drama, I was surprised that I actually liked it. I wasn't expecting anything at first. The synopsis doesn't even look interesting to me, as I just randomly started the drama on a whim. I don't even know why I watched this, even though I initially did not like the plot introduction.

But the first few episodes were great! The bickering between the two leads was cute. I guess my problem was they took so long to confess their feelings. All the time, I was like, "Come on, say it!" And they never did. But still, I guess the issue was that they were friends. And they are circumstances that friends don't want to ruin what they have now. Also! probably because they don't know if the other feels the same, which is obviously nonsense, because girl, I'm gonna say, friends don't look at their friends that way. They even held hands and how they look at one another like it was so obvious! All that is missing is a "boyfriend-girlfriend" label, and they're good.

Another thing is that it felt short as I wanted to see more of their life after getting together.

For the cast, this might be my first drama of hers, but Suzu's acting here is great. I liked it. Btw, she's so pretty.

Episode 1-7 was really good the rest was trash

There is a lot of potential that is not used well by story makers, even though if that potential was used well for two characters like ML and FL it would be better. Episodes 1-7 are very good, in my opinion, they are my favorite drama, but after that it becomes a waste of time. I think the story makers want to make interesting things, even though they only make trash stories. If episodes 8-9-10 don't exist, I think they will be the top of my favorite Japanese dramas. But a lot of potential was wasted in the last episode. Overall I give a 7 rating for this drama

Emotional

Slow burn love story , sweet , emotional ..
It's unrealistic in my opinion
But!

Why it's beautiful?
Because it teached me something important , while we are all trying to chase after our dreams and be in such good places with big amounts of money ,
We don't realize how lone we could be after all of that ..
Sometimes , love is as important as your dreams

Why it touched my heart?
Because i know that selfishness is real , in order to be what you want to be you have to sacrifise alot like soramami mom
But is it worth it?

At the same time .. povetry and love doesn't mix and combine in my opinion
Money is important tool

So ..
It touched my heart , what should we do if we want to be loved but want to be in decent career ?
