Ten years ago, I Na's beloved uncle, who had been like a father, mother, and best friend to her, was brutally murdered. I Na was the sole witness to the crime, but instead of being treated as a victim, she found herself under suspicion. Han Saem, the lead investigator at the time, was convinced that I Na was the killer. Now, a decade later, I Na has become a criminal profiler. For the past six years, she’s been a key member of the Criminal Analysis Team at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Known for her sharp instincts, she's often the first to uncover a killer’s motive just by examining a crime scene. Fate brings I Na and Han Saem back together on a new case. Forced to work side by side, the tension between them simmers as old suspicions resurface. But as they dig deeper into the past, they begin to unravel the dark truth behind her uncle’s murder - one that neither of them ever expected. (Source: kisskh) Edit Translation

It Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart
OVERVIEW:Narratively, Nine Puzzles is balancing multiple layers of mystery, from cryptic puzzle pieces and reflection clues to complex interpersonal relationships and workplace politics. It steadily builds suspicion around almost everyone, including the cops themselves. This creates a tense atmosphere where no one feels truly safe or above suspicion.
By refusing to deliver easy answers or straightforward deductions, the series encourages me to actively decode. This layered approach gives a richly rewarding experience as the plot unfolds and deeper connections emerge.
COMMENTARY:
What sets this show apart from typical murder mysteries is how personal the case becomes for the people involved. Each murder comes with a symbolic puzzle piece that seems meaningless at first glance but turns out to be metaphors that speak to the victims' sins and roles in long-forgotten or buried atrocities.
The story is led by two core characters, Yun I-na and Kim Han-saem, whose partnership is tense but grounded. Neither of them is entirely stable. But they keep each other from falling apart as the case grows darker, stranger, and more personal.
What begins as a whodunnit quickly evolves into something more thematic. The show explores the consequences of institutional failure and what happens when someone decides to punish those systems in the most literal way. But what keeps the show human is how it focuses on the fallout: guilt, loyalty, memory, and how trauma shapes who we become.
The supporting and guest cast is full of suspects, misdirects, and ambiguous figures. Everyone has secrets. Some are corrupted by power, others are broken by loss. A few are trying to protect people they shouldn’t, and others are pretending to be someone they’re not. It’s not just about who the killer is. It’s about who allowed them to exist in the first place.
One of the most fascinating aspects is the way the show plays with memory. The deeper the case goes, the more you realize that some characters may have witnessed or experienced something years ago that ties directly into the present. As those memories begin to surface, the stakes change.
What makes the storytelling work is its emotional honesty. It never forgets the human cost, even for the killer. The pain is always present. Justice is never clean. Motives are never pure. Every revelation feels earned, and the pace is deliberately layered, making you question your own assumptions about guilt, innocence, and what it means to move on.
On the edge thriller
I enoyed this show. Kept me on the edge until the last 2 ,episodes. The ending felt flat and the reveal underwhelming. No major twists, reveals, some lose ends and plot holes. The 9 episodes built up was amazing and then meh. Had great premise with the potential of 9-10 rating but the ending was boring and fell flat.I would still watch a season 2 and hope for a mind blowing ending. That what makes an outstanding thriller imho.
