I once followed the daily ratings changes and soon it was apparent the ratings can be manipulated.  Ratings are interesting but that's about it.  I no longer associate a low rating with quality of a drama. I can gleam something from it, but it does not always reflect the drama's quality in production, acting, or entertainment value.  MDL is such a small universe.  I think Douban is actually a more interesting rating because they show percentage of 1,2,3,4 and 5 ratings.  But Douban too is manipulated by bias and haters and people who are passing by only.  I also find it more useful to compare many ratings instead of using one, but I distrust all ratings.  It's interesting but ratings also capture biases and hate toward actors.

The low Douban Score 5.1 is result of 44% of the users rated it 1 and 2.  Right there, that tells you the ratings is not meaningful in light of the 8.8 it received on MDL, even if Douban has 68K reviews compared to MDL 2.7K user ratings, but it's too big of a gap.  Comparatively, I think the Douban should at least be 6 or low 6's if MDL is 8.8.  Sometimes a good drama gets a very low Douban for reasons have nothing to do with quality of the drama.  Also, 68K user reviews on Douban means this drama is quite popular and successful despite the low Douban score.
