What's Wrong with My Princess

The answer to the title: She's allergic to chemistry.

Transmigration and Chinese short dramas—name a more chaotic combo. It’s like every heroine has a punch card for reincarnation, but with barely enough runtime to unpack one lifetime, let alone two. This drama sets up a promising revenge plot with a reborn general, scheming royals, and a wedding night rewind. But the delivery? More ho-hum than high drama. The acting isn’t outright bad, but the chemistry between the leads is… well, not chemistrifying.

Wu Ming Jing as Qiu Yu looks like she’s emotionally clocked out. Whether her romantic partner is Brian Chang or a decorative pine tree, she barely spares either a glance. And considering they’re supposed to be the central couple, it gives major “I’m just here for the paycheck” energy. Meanwhile, Brian Chang’s Li Jian spends most of the runtime trying to convince himself that Qiu Yu is his wife. Either he can’t believe a general would marry him, or he’s too busy sulking about being the seventh prince instead of the first or second. All along maybe he's just wondering how many siblings had to mysteriously disappear before it was his turn at the throne.

Maybe Qiu Yu’s apathy is less about romance and more about survival. With a scheming stepmother and a sister who wants her dead, she spends most of her time reciting excuses (probably ripped from the “Tragic Heroine’s Bible”) for why she’s still entertaining the 2nd prince—even after his betrayal in a past life. The drama tries to paint this as noble, but it mostly feels exhausting.

By the end, Qiu Yu’s expression is permanently stuck in “let’s get this over with” mode. Unfortunately, so was mine. The drama had the bones of an intriguing palace saga, but the lack of spark, urgency, and emotional investment left me disengaged. If indifference were a love language, this couple would be soulmates.

What Is Wrong With My Princess is a well produced and performed revenge miniseries. The sequence of events advanced in a natural way and the actors, for the most part, did quite well bringing their characters to life. It is a revenge plot so the romance portion of it is gradual and subtle but the leading couple has great camaraderie as the female lead exact her revenge but there was not much in matters of the fluttering feelings of falling in love with your destined one. The antagonists did great as they were plotting together and their relationship as lovers was much more credible than the leading couple. It must be said that Mu Le En (as Murong Xin Er) brought her antagonist character of a rotten spoil wretch deluded from jealousy and hatred towards the female lead to high levels. The miniseries is well written and maybe, with lengthier episodes, the characters could’ve been more flesh out to intensify the revenge and romance of the leading couple. Overall, this is a nice production, enjoy it!

Hidden Gem

Now, I did not expect much from this show since it is a mini-series. However, it really surprised me and exceeded my expectations. Especially the plot was more tight than I expected it to be. No plot holes and understandable motivations.
First things first: its main focus is revenge, not romance. And it's doing the revenge part extremely well. You root for FL and it's very satisfying that she doesn't lose her focus, is smart and certainly is a (wo)man on a mission. ML is mostly there to help her along and to find true love. It's really sweet and I liked them together. I wish though, that they would've fleshed it out a bit more. But since it's a mini-series, one shouldn't expect miracles. It's also low-budget but the compelling story definitely makes up for it.

A good one, if you like the "2nd chance / revenge" plot ʸ(ᴖ́◡ु⚈᷉)♡⃛

Short series (3h30), historical and romantic, with excellent actors

PLOT: The FL (legitimate daughter of a general, cast aside after her mother's murder) marries the 7th Prince (ML) to kill him in favor of the 2nd Prince (ML2). However, later, the ML2 kills her (because she is no longer useful to him) when she was pregnant so that her sister (FL2) can be his queen. After her death, back in time when she wakes up, the FL has just married the 7th Prince and decides to ally with him for their revenge.

+++ Very good young actors, convincing
+++ Effective production, without plot holes, which allows you to understand the story despite the lack of budget.

### Low-budget series (no major scenes, few sets, few costumes, etc.)

=> Nice series for an evening, thanks to the talented actors.

Série courte (3h30), historique et romantique, avec de très bons acteurs

PLOT: La FL (fille légitime d'1 général, mise à l'écart après le meurtre de sa mère) épouse le 7e Prince (ML) pr le tuer au profit du e Prince (ML2). Cpdt, le ML2 la tue (car elle ne lui est plus utile) qd elle est enceinte, pr que sa sœur (FL2) soit sa reine. A son réveil après sa mort, la FL vient d'épouser le 7e Prince, et décide de s'allier avec lui pr se venger.

+++ De très bons jeunes acteurs, convaincants
+++ Réalis° efficace, sans plot hole, qui permet de comprendre l'histoire malgré l'absence de budget.

### Série low-budget (aucune scène d'ampleur, peu de décors, peu de costumes, etc.)

=> Série sympa pr une soirée, grâce au talent des acteurs.
